Chileans take advantage of cruise ship deals

Chilean tourism agencies are now selling cruise-ship packages at heavily discounted prices to combat the drop in sales brought on by the worldwide economic crisis.
Two weeks ago Corte Ingles Travel held an overnight sale auction on their cruises, attended by more than 200 people.

Santiago, Montevideo, among cheapest cities for tourists

Santiago is one of the cheapest cities for foreigners, according to a survey published by finance consultancy Mercer. The Chilean capital is the fourth most economical city in Latinamerica and the 15th cheapest worldwide. The Uruguayan capital Montevideo also figures among the most accessible and liveable cities in the region.

France best positioned for Brazil’s Air Force 4.5 billion USD contract

US defence contractor Boeing Co is prepared to have Brazilian companies supply a “big portion” of components for its Super Hornet jetfighter, creating as many as 5.000 local jobs, to sell 36 of the warplanes to Brazil. The pledge comes as Boeing manoeuvres against competitors France’s Dassault Aviation and Sweden’s Saab AB.

US trade deficit in 2009, 350 billion USD less than in 2008

United States saw its deficit narrow to 26 billion US dollars in May, its lowest level in more than nine years, according to figures from the Commerce Department. Imports continued to fall while exports increased, pushing the deficit to its lowest level since November 1999.

Brazil feed lot industry more cautious about expansion

Brazil is planning to increase the number of cattle in feed lots by 4.6% which would be equivalent to a total of 1.673.500 heads, according to Beef Point, a Brazilian portal linked to the meat industry.

Millions of Argentines stayed home from work on Friday, as the A/H1N1 virus influenza continues to spread during the South American winter season. The latest official report from Argentina’s Public Health Ministry indicates 99 deaths caused by the A/flu
