Caught off guard, the United States is once again in the position of desperately playing catch up by events on the ground because the Obama administration still does not have a Latin America team in place.

Real power in USA is supporting Micheleti; Brazil & co. are playing for Zelaya; Brazil is fighting for its leadership; Brazil is fighting a political battle against USA. Obama is nowhere. Brazil is showing their political muscle and the future role it will play in the hemisphere as a super power.

Brazil will never be a super power. They had super power status when they annexed the the “thumb” of the Bolivian Pantanal, and beat up on Uruguay and Paraguay. That was almost 200 years ago. They are and most likely will be a regional power, but that is a long way from super when you compare them to the other regional powers. Real Power in the USA is left leaning democratic party controlled house, senate and office of the president.
