Bosnia, Brazil, Gabon, Lebanon and Nigeria were elected Thursday to non-permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council. They will serve two-year terms starting January 1 and will participate in decisions ranging from deploying U.N. peacekeepers to imposing sanctions. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesOk, but what about the rest of the countries who also joined the Security Council? The number of votes is very telling in their cases, even more than the only one referred to by the article. Maybe it's too biased an approach, don't you think? J
Oct 16th, 2009 - 09:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yeah, right! Look at the results! 1) NIGERIA 186; 2) GABON 184; 3) BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA 183; 4) BRAZIL 182; and 5) LEBANON 180
Oct 16th, 2009 - 10:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0Why then only mentioning the fourth candidate?
A bit too obvious! Great for Brazil, and of course the previous three and fifth candidates, but Mercopress approch is somewhat biased, and this is crystal clear in this article.

Oct 18th, 2009 - 11:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think Brazil was probably the only country mentioned in this story because Mercopress is a South American news agency, no doubt syndicating to S. American media who would no doubt be more interested in news about countries in their own continent. The last time I checked Nigeria, Gabon, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Lebanon were not in South America.
Still too biased taking into account Brazil's candidature was the only one at regional level (Venezuela's was not officially endorsed)! Sorry J.A., I'm afraid you are losing the point as the article not even mentions the other four! Maybe you work for the agency, do you?
Oct 19th, 2009 - 07:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0J.A. Roberts, uk is not a south american nation and it is mentioned every two articles of five.
Oct 22nd, 2009 - 10:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0Luis, can't agree more with you. That's an excellent example. By the way, there's a Mercopress increasing tendency to show some regions (most of which are countries, actually except for the so-called Falklan Islands which is quite unpleasant to see in a South American news agency) as booming instead of others which can't help being so ruined! Not because I support the Argentine Government', which I do NOT, but there are lots of good news regarding Argentina also, besides the bad ones Mercopress only publishes. Is this a tendency, to call it a name?
Oct 22nd, 2009 - 06:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well, news here are very selected ones, very subjective. You just have to click in the botton of Regions and then click in Argentina to see what kind of news they make, try it.
Oct 22nd, 2009 - 11:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0For example, instead of Argentine classify to the world cup they say FIFA orders disciplinary investigation into Maradona’s comments or Maradona’s foul reactions turn “hand of God” against him.
http://en.mercopress.com/argentina
or provocative titles like Kirchners “surrendered” to the IMF, says leading Argentine economist instead of Kircher seek agree with the IMF.
http://en.mercopress.com/argentina
Or Falklands’ government “integral part” of discussions with Argentina instead of Falklands/malvinas government consider themself integral part of discussions with Argentina.

Anyway we cant be sorprised by this kind of biased articles when we have clarin that is pretty much the same optics. They are becoming anti-argentine, all articles against the government or murders or hostages. Im not kirchnerist but i think its too much from clarin.
www.clarin.com ( go only if you want to get furious)
cheers.
I can't agree more, once again. Maybe Argentina is not paying to Mercopress as the rest seems to be doing!
