The winning ticket holders of the United Kingdom's largest-ever lottery prize are a married couple from Newport, in south Wales, and a syndicate from Liverpool. The two tickets will take a £45,570,835.50 share of Friday's £90m (100 million Euros) Euro-millions jackpot.

The winning Liverpool syndicate work for Hewlett Packard and carry out internal IT work and computer support at BT. The workers were unaware of their staggering win when they turned up for their shift at BT's Royal House centre in Wood Street.

A company source said: “The lucky people do work in our Wood Street centre in Liverpool. They are employed by Hewlett Packard or by Manpower to do internal IT work, computer support. ”Some of them went to work not actually knowing anything about it. Someone from Camelot turned up and whisked them away.“

Staff outside the BT centre remained tight-lipped about the identities of the winners. One woman entering the building simply said: ”We are just really happy for them. The winners are celebrating but obviously not here.”

The ticket holders' identities will be revealed at news conferences on Tuesday, when they are expected to outline their plans for their winnings.

Until now, the biggest single win was by Angela Kelly, from South Lanarkshire, who won more than £35m (39 million Euros) in August 2007.

The winning numbers on Friday were 19, 43, 45, 34, 11 and the Lucky Star numbers were 5 and 9.

Nine European countries participate in the Euro-Millions lottery - Britain, the Irish Republic, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg.

In May, a ticket bought in Spain broke the European lottery's record by netting a 126 million Euros (£110m) jackpot.
