After 20 years in circulation, the current 10,000 Chilean peso bill will be replaced this coming year, courtesy of commercial banks.

The new money will be presented March 3 by Central Bank president Jose De Gregario; Central Bank general director Alejandro Zurbuchen and the treasurer.

The new note’s design has a range of security measures in place, including a 3D strip and a thread of security within the design, to prevent counterfeiting.

The note retains the portrait of navy officer Arturo Prat and features a Mapuche symbol that represents the sun and fertility as well as a symbol for water.

The note, which measures at 7cm in width and 14.1cm in length, also features larger print than its predecessor in order to assist in the recognition by the sight-impaired.

New 5,000 and 2,000 Chilean pesos notes were released recently.
