Fourteen cruise ships visited South Georgia Island during December, eight of which visited during the Christmas week from the 23rd to the 29th December, according to the latest release from South Georgia’s News and Events.
Spain’s research vessel “Miguel Oliver” set off from Montevideo for a joint scientific cruise with Uruguayan experts with the purpose of surveying Uruguay’s Exclusive Economic Zone, EEZ. The research includes chartering the area and surveying ocean conditions in the sea bed.
Last year ended for Argentina with a 2% economic drop as a consequence of the international crisis and its impact on the majority of productive sectors. However, from the second quarter onwards, some improvements -expected to remain unchanged for 2010- have become visible and the outlook for the year is more encouraging.
Argentina expects to have its main icebreaker Almirante Irizar back in sailing conditions by October 2011 and fully operational for the 2011/2012 Antarctic season, according to reports in the Buenos Aires press.
