More than ten investment banks, including Wells Fargo, HSBC, Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse, will leave Argentina in the coming weeks, a Buenos Aires newspaper reported Monday. Read full article
I'm never quite sure if GDR makes comments that he thinks are profound but they never make any sense to a native English speaker.
Money always goes to where it makes the greatest returns. Moving the banks offshore will hurt the Argentine economy more than the banks or it's investors.
The comments dont make any sense in spanish either....The central bank already restricts the ammount of money I can send home. It just means that it takes longer to do the things you want to do besides, I would be mad to deposit anything in any bank in argentina. At the end of the day, people with money will continue to keep it off- shore where it can grow. This governments' days are numbered!
I'm not sure about the other 8+ banks, but HSBC has only been based in the UK since 1993 (after they'd bought Midland Bank), before that and to use their full name the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was based in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
having arrived in Argentina 12 months ago to get 2 weeks work done on my boat I am still here..
Leaving aside the reasons for that I can say that over 90% of the people I have dealt with want either cash $US or money transfered into a NY bank account...
As long as this attitude prevails and Argentinians don't trust their own economy and don't want to pay tax then the economy and the country itself will remain a basket case...
as i understand that yu dealth with black-marketers
who look for cash in any foreign currency around !
Not at all, I have been dealing with legitimate small 'shop front' businesses....
I have also had dentists take my cash and put it straight into their pockets...
Not to mention the Prefectura that pocketed his 'overtime' when I payed it...
Compare with Chile where if you buy an icecream you get an official receipt...
yu live on which planet !?
some of doctors are dishonest in all countries..yu must know this reality !
there are informal sectors almost in all countries !!
In my opinion Argentina *is* an excellent country full of excellent people who are let down rather badly by their government.
Neither my Argentinian friends or I know how to sort it.. as they say... vote this lot out .. the next lot will be no different...
we have been most succesful country at Macro-Economic Development
in the World since 2002 ! but ..
there must be made many things at Micro-Level !
LAUGH...GDR..do you really believe your own shit here? Most succesful country at macro economics..lol.good lord..bro, smell the real coffee (what you import from Brazil, Colombia and perhaps Jamaica)...your silly republic was the worst when it came to economics..BOGUS Economy. Typical a che idiot who still doesn't get it...amazing.
Jorge that is a sad but true comment.
So many of your countrymen are in The USA trying to escape the horrible place they come from that the US Federal Government added Argentinian as a descriptor to our census forms!
