Disclaimer & comment rulesChile can't trade with the UK AND support Argentina in its attempted theft of our territory. Make up your minds. You can't walk both sides of the street. I won't buy anything originating in Chile until Chile disassociates itself from Argentina!
Aug 12th, 2010 - 01:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I agree with you that Chile must disassociate from Argentina related to the Falklands sovergnity and I hope it will be soon...because it is bileteral matter where no other countries must be acting, but I think we must trade with any country that want our goods.

Aug 12th, 2010 - 03:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Sergio. At best, it is trilateral, i.e. Falkland Islands, Britain and Argentina.
Aug 12th, 2010 - 05:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So first, Argentina has to accept that the Falkland Islands are a short step from being a sovereign nation. The step being where the Islanders believe that there is no further danger of theft of their country by Argentina.
Then, Argentina has to accept that the form of government to be exercised in the Falkland Islands is a matter, solely, for the Islanders.
Then, or perhaps first, Argentina has to stop trying to interfere in the legitimate trade, communications and so forth of other countries.
I don't see anything in Chile, or any other South American country, that the UK can't get elsewhere. Be aware, the UK will not forget!!
Marco,Chile,s support for Argentina is verbal only in reality, not substantial and real - we know - we trade and travel there! It amounts to support in the OAS and UN Decolonization Committee etc - where it means nothing in reality, but is a prefectly natural regional vote for the sake of trade and border relations. Dont forget- your maritime rules only stop Falklands vessels from passing the Straits as we are not prepared to sign papers that would support your claim. Any other vessel from any other nation is free to sign them and we have no problem with that - some already have and been to the islands no problem.
Aug 12th, 2010 - 05:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It would be nice if Chile did publicy say it was a bilateral issue between Arg and Uk - but even I can appreciate that would cause a lot of border problems for them! US is different - they do say it is a bilateral issue and they are neutral - just because they dont openly support UK does not actully mean they support you side! Its called being neutral in a dispute between 2 nations that is of no direct concern to other states.China and others - well they will say something to please your president - but you and I know they do not actually mean it - they still do business in and around the Islands fishing!
Thank you Mr Piñera and Chile for your support in our cause. Malvinas Argentinas y Sudamericanas.

Aug 12th, 2010 - 06:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Britain will NOT sit down with Argentina to discuss anything about the Falkland Islands without the Islanders' agreement. Sovereignty will NOT be on the table unless the Islanders wish it.
Aug 12th, 2010 - 11:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The Chileans will do business in the UK. That's OK, they already do and Britain has good relations with Chile.
Aug 13th, 2010 - 02:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0Islander is quite correct. Politicians will say what they think they ought knowing full well it means very little.
There is no issue, there is no problem, the islands are British, nothing is likely to change that in the foreseeable future. The 'blockade' appears to be an ineffective joke and other countries don't really give a damn. Argentina is 'stuffed'!
Still won't buy anything of Chilean origin.
