Renewed Falkland Islands claim, reformulation of international organisms, Iran and Palestine are among the issues that Argentine president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will be addressing in her speech before the UN 65th General Assembly on Friday, according to Argentine diplomatic sources.

Argentine Ambassador at UN Jorge Argüello advanced that Mrs Kirchner is expected to renew the claim over the Falklands/Malvinas Islands sovereignty; will once more ask for international organisms to “reformulate” principles; urge Iran to cooperate in the Buenos Aires AMIA 1994 bombing investigation case and support the creation of a Palestinian state.

The President is to be escorted at the UN assembly by representatives from the Argentine Jewish Community and by relatives of the AMIA attack victims.

After having decided to delay her trip, Mrs Kirchner arrived in New York City on Thursday and kept to a tight agenda which begun meeting her Turkish peer Abdullah Gül who is currently president of the UN Security Council.

Al mid day the Argentine president participated in a lunch for all foreign delegations hosted by the UN Secretary General where she shared a table with US president Barack Obama and Ban Ki-moon.
According to Argentine sources in both events Mrs Kirchner strongly lobbied for a Security Council seat for Argentina in 2013. The last time Argentina participated as a non permanent member was in 2006.

In the evening together with all world leaders present for the UN General Assembly Mrs Kirchner was present at the reception offered by US President Obama at the American Museum of Natural History.

On Friday Mrs. Kirchner is to be the first speaker at the UN assembly. Also on Friday she is to hold a meeting with businessmen, scheduled to take place at the Four Seasons Hotel and later in the day hold a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Foreign Affairs Minister Héctor Timerman and UNASUR head Néstor Kirchner are among those escorting the Argentine president in New York. Likewise, Economy Minister Amado Boudou, Entre Ríos governor Sergio Urribarri and Santiago del Estero's head Gerardo Zamora are also part of the delegation.

On Monday the Argentine president is scheduled to meet with the New York Stock Exchange board and with the Council of the Americas to promote business and investments in the country. A private meeting with Ban Ki-moon also figures in her agenda.

Finally on Tuesday Mrs Kirchner will be present when Argentina is elected as head of the G-77 plus China, the majority block in the UN. The one year mandate in 2011 is considered a major coup for Argentine diplomacy implemented by Ambassador Argüello.

Ahhhh, yes. Not allowed out without Kickback K now, I see. Wonder how often she'll get a wallop while they're there?

As for a seat on the Security Council. How would that be? A country known for land grabs, suppressing the press and interfering with its neighbours. If it's only been 4 years, there's plenty of other countries who get a turn first.
