The future of the Royal Navy’s ice patrol vessel HMS Endurance may remain in doubt well over a year after it nearly sank in the Straits of Magellan and returned to Portsmouth on the lift ship MV Target, but there is no doubting the UK’s ongoing commitment to the Antarctic Treaty. Read full article

“ ... there is no doubting the UK’s ongoing commitment to the Antarctic Treaty...”

Of course ... we have land there!

”Should any reader with deep pockets and a welder be interested, the aircraft carrier has been put on www.edisposals.com where it is currently listed as “in stock”.
That land is far far away, especially if you don't have ships.

But we have subs. Big nuclear powered subs which are able to monitor your movements from far far away. Those subs have weapons that can protect the islands from far far away. Argentina does not have the naval ability to invade islands only a few hundred miles away. Far far away is always relative!

I've heard from plenty of RGs that HMS Invincible was sunk in the Falklands war and that the British government hushed it up to save face, maybe this is the closing chapter of a 28 year cover up! I'm surprised Wikileaks hasn't got stuck into such a scoop......

    2 Marcos Alejandro,
“That land is far far away, especially if you don't have ships.”

We've had ships & been navigating the southern hemisphere for hundreds of years, nothing will stop it continuing.

That land is far far away, or might as well have been with the Argie fleet hiding in port in 1982

Invade our own land? After all we are winning this war without firing a single shot.
Beef, are you talking about this powerful sub?
We can see it from far far away with another poweful weapon, internet.

yes, the sub has some problems, all ships of all kinds have teething problems, but we can assure you that the weapons that this sub deployes,
can destroy any argentine naval base /airforce base /army base /
or military instalations from over 3,ooo miles away.
The next sub in line is on its way, Argentina on the other hand has none, broken or otherwise ??

Macros. That is what testing is for and the Captain was not up to the job so was sacked!

Enjoy your 4 patrol boats and your soviet era helicopters. Always at the cutting edge of technology aren't you?

Why? Do we need one? “Your powerful undetectable nuclear subs” ran aground in their own coast in broad day light for everyone to see, no extra help needed, you do all the job yourselves :-)))

“The Royal Navy has a nuclear submarine aground within view of the shore, and more specifically a major bridge, where thousands of people are going to see this in person - and likely care.” -
“The MoD spokesman said: “...While conducting a personnel transfer as part of sea trials...”

Remember a few months ago when a crane dropped the heavy load on the Astute?
Or, when the Astute had to return to port because its anchor broke down?

Beef “the Captain was not up to the job so was sacked!”

That jackass was allowed to stay in command and was only fired after an entire NSTB was written in his honor.

Dropping off some sailors ashore, my eye!
Port lookout: “Sir, there's sheep on the beach!”
OOD: “Assemble the rape and pillage detail. Fall in on the after deck.”
Maybe they had a taste for some fresh haggis
