(i) REDD+ monies from the USA to ‘Carbon-offset’ against forest protection (Cancun Agreement).
(ii) Biodiversity agreements firmed up bi-laterally, to agree on the profit-sharing from secondary pharmaceutical (etc) developments originating from eg Amazonia.
The USA responds well to hard-headed business meetings where both parties can be seen to turn a profit; and the US needs contact with ‘Dilma’s Brasil’ so it understands that hard-headed negotiation is the way things will be here and now.
And if the USA can regain markets and sphere of influence in South America from a rampant China, this will be no bad thing.
South America is changing FAST, and the USA will need to change the paradigm and its modus operandi if it is to regain its former influence.
Apparently the Arg embassy here is going crazy over this! CFK is furious! I have been saying for a long time Argentina is like Bolivia , irrelevant and forgotten.

Uncle Hugo bribed the Ks, got his march, the protesters destroyed a lot of private property and The Ks were blacklisted. Was it worth it? Maybe when CFK is in jail the USA and Argentina can try to reestablish relations but it will take a very long time.

Plus the new census map and the majority of new Repub Governors has made it much more difficult for him to get reelected. Pretty hard to campaign in a state when the Governor doesn't support you and the state is leaning Republican. It is a whole different ball game this time.
Please remember that your visitor (or otherwise) will be *The President of the USA*, it will not be John Doe, Joe Bloggs, or Barack Obama.

His specifically declared agendas are clean energy, global growth, helping Haiti, stimulating development, nuclear security, crisis management, supporting economic developments of ex-pats living in the USA, and BRIC partnerships.
The President of the greatest economic force on earth, the leader of the most important hegemony in the world, and (by far) the greatest donator of aid – the President brings these agendas to the table.
The President is holding out his hand where previous Presidents did otherwise. Try not to maul his outstretched hand before he reveals his specific points of partnership, development and aid.

You forgot to mention the president of the biggest debtor country in the world, with higher liabilities to be pay in human history (150 t) and with U6 unemployment close to 18% and close to 60 million poor.

Obama is making a lot of mistakes when choosing his allies and priorities, even if his actions like upsetting the Brits is good for us or ignoring Argentina in his agenda, all has consequence even though for USA. You should have learned that from bush experience.

My rider “Try not to maul his outstretched hand before he reveals his specific points of partnership, development and aid ” was a useful bit of guidance.
The UK got a bit huffy at not being first in line at earlier Presidential meetings, but they understand the concept of a queue. The *order* of the queue is part of the political message that becomes part of the package.
Argentina is not in the first five countries for very good and very sound political reasons - reasons rooted in recent historical relations. These will pass with time, and 'normal', 'friendly' relations can resume across the Americas - for Argentina, Christina just has to work out what the appropriate signal is.
Just a thought though - best not to pass it via the normal diplomatic channels, Wikileaks is still being fed, and the Argentinian population would not be happy with her back-channel conversations with Mrs Clinton.
