I thought keiko would win, but this, Humala's victory, is a nail in the coffin of neoliberlism.

my sincerest condolences to the people of Peru. Their country passes from being the fastest growing and fastest one lowering poverty to another a leftist, autoritarian militarist Chavez puppet... Stock market in Lima registered their highest fall in history, even they didn't make it to the end of the day (they closed 4 hours before due to the panic)

really ManRod, it was the end of the world right? Even JP morgan chase knows it's full of hot air and it's a buying opportunity now. Source bloomberg.com. Peru will do fine, you worry more about your leader who's selling out it's nation to the highest foreign bidder.

it will surely not be the end of the world, at least for the rest of the world.
It might also even be possible, that the market recovers after a while, though things at the moment do not look good and there are no signs this will improve during next years, but rather worsen.

I don't believe in messianic military figures, that additionally change their discurse in shortest term, after recognizing that if he insists in his political line, he would have no chance to be elected. They are not credible. During the few last weeks, Ollanta has moderated his line, because he adjusted it to what the people wanted to hear. Something similar happened during Chavez pre-election period. There is still a video you can see Chavez end of the 90ies, whereas he promises he will only stay for one legislature if they elect him, and he would NEVER EEEEVER dare to change constitution to perpetuate @ power, he would do no nationalisations and so on. As conclusion after the video, he did exactly EVERYTHING what he promised not to do.

Regarding taking care for our issues... be sure, we do. At least we still have our jewels which accumulate wealth in state ownership, like Codelco. I know, you guys in Argentina suffered, because Menem did not do a sell out, but a GIVE AWAY FOR FREE.. so even worse! But Menem is nothing but just a corrupt mafia guy, he is no example for any model at all, like you guys over there pretend to give him. Blame him, nothing else...

    You say:
“At least we still have our jewels which accumulate wealth in state ownership, like Codelco.”

    I say:
And who do we have to thank for CODELCO?

    Compañero Allende
    Presente!

He (Manrod) is just not doing it's homework, can't think for himself and that's unfortunate. I don't know Peru well, but what I have seen since i've been there many times, it's clear that Mr Humala is the only one who truly understand his own nation and know what to do. I drank the same kool aid as Manrod (he's evil, communist, bla bla bla), until I understood how those bogus free traders really work and why they are dirty socialist clowns (Socialism only works for rich people, not for the poor) and important understood that Mr Humala is indeed the man who defeated the shining path (he was in the army under Fujimori) and saw the corruption that made it worse. The economic growth is only at the coast, mainly Lima, but Mr Humala understood that it could be better where other simply failed. I'm sure Peru will do fine and continue to beat it's neighbor Chile (in economic growht, peru is far more diverse compare to Chile only their marketing needs to be improved, expending it's culture and having better pisco and pisco sours, yeah Chile has better wines..

@ Think, I prefer to thank the author of the Codelco state idea, and that was NOT Allende, didn't you know? It was Carlos Ibañez and later Frei Montalva's plan and he initiated the process. Where are you from, just to know if it's understandable you did not know that fact...

Fido, your discourse is leaving the path of rationalism. Socialism for the rich? Humala comunist? what's next, cold war breaks out again? :D

I would be very glad if Peru continues to “beat” us in economic indicators, though I do not know many yet, maybe you can show me some, except the minor additional growth they currently have, but considering the low base they start from thats the most basic one to reach. A growing Peru means less migratory masses coming from there, especially through illegal paths. Did you know many peruvians knowingly risk their life to enter Chile, trying to bypass the minefields at the frontier? I just fear, that this dangerous “game” will not cease and even increase during Humala's reign.
If I am mistaken about Mr Humala, it would be great... hopefully he succeeds with what he promises, because otherwise if his popularity falls, he will surely apply old-fashioned methods to bring people to chear him: finding an external enemies, like Evo Morales currently does, since his popularity crashed after the gasoline incident. Suddenly Chile appeared as the “threat”... just out of nowhere!

    (9) Dear Xavier Erdoíza

Eduardo Frei was an intelligent and decent man.
That’s why Pinocho had him killed.
    He deserves all our thanks.

But…… the one that made CODELCO the mainstay of Chilean economy was Salvador Allende.
    As you most certainly know………………….............................................
