Over sixty five years ago, British South American Airways (BSAA) began flying to South America. The flights, which began in March 1946, were via Lisbon, Bathurst, Natal, Rio de Janiero and Montevideo, before landing in Buenos Aires, 35 hours later. The aircraft: an Avro Lancastrian. Disclaimer & comment rulesI love BA. They have been talking about this non-stop flight to BsAs for a while, and shaving a couple of hours of the flight-time is great, but no First Class!! It has always been full when I have flown...... *sigh* : )
Jul 19th, 2011 - 07:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0Its jolly good to see the British flag flying over Argentina again, indeed right over the Casa Rosada... Bravo! etc....
Jul 19th, 2011 - 11:31 am - Link - Report abuse 0Frank still has a grudge against Argentina because of the $7500 fine he had to pay to the Casa Rosada.
Jul 19th, 2011 - 02:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thanks dude.
Wherever you go in the world, you will see the British union jack.
Jul 19th, 2011 - 02:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We are so popular that even Argentina flies the British union jack..
Ah how nice of them lol.
Be British, you know it makes sense, mmm
‘World’s favourite airline’
Jul 19th, 2011 - 05:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Really? Please mercopress, Give me a break with your silly propaganda.
It's just an airline with an ugly flag that makes Briton so proud, though he never sat in one them and can't even afford a plane ticket. Being British doesn't make sense at all, who wants to be branded as old jack (ass)? Yeah Briton likes that.
Best airlines to fly with to South American nations are LAN, TAM, KLM/AIRFRANCE and American Airlines.
British Airways is currently working with the Argentina Tourism Board to promote Argentina as a tourist destination in the United Kingdom from an advertising campaign on flights this month.
Jul 19th, 2011 - 05:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Excellent, another example of humanity and generosity of the Argentines, we have no prejudices with the law-abiding companies Argentina.
Should take note of those Englishmen of ill will that the English of good will are growing and looking pleased with the growth of Argentina and his attitude of dialogue and peace to resolve conflicts. Another indicator that speaks to be taking steps, and approaches more and more time to resolve the Falkland Islands dispute through negotiations, diplomatically and without resentment.
It's just a matter of time.
Demand for British Airways flights in Brazil is extremely high too and the airline currently operates ten flights a week to London, seven from San Pablo
Jul 19th, 2011 - 05:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0San Pablo? Really? I believe it's Sao Paulo (SP) without tranlate it in another language. I wonder what program those clowns at mercopress uses for translation.

A brit is nothing more than an ugly blowhard with empty rhetoric.
Jul 19th, 2011 - 05:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Poor briton, he's so sad and ugly, go fix your teeth.
Great Airline! I've travelled through Europe and Russia from the USA....no problems. When ther were ticket issues...their customer service is very professional ans supportive.

'perhaps a mirror and a toothbrush may help you'
Jul 19th, 2011 - 07:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That always helps me but it doesn't help you, that's why you are the sad ugly brit with bad teeth. Get over it huh, and spare me your patriotic Bull Crap. British Airways is okay, it's not the best airline and never will be.

Arrive in Argentina from the Falklands without the 'correct' paperwork... ie the RG paperwork whereby you acknowledge that the Falklands are RG territory ... and you are in seriously deep and expensive shit... 'RG government goons ' would be a better description of the people you have to deal with ... flows off the tongue a bit better...
The fine is actually $US7000....
Thanks dude.

Jul 20th, 2011 - 03:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0Do you need a receipt?
Jul 20th, 2011 - 04:23 am - Link - Report abuse 0Elaine, you should try dropping down to Executive Class -
Jul 20th, 2011 - 08:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0still lots of leg-room for those with legs that go on forever ;)
Have noticed a franchise (?) link where BA and AA operate different legs over the longer journies.
Trouble is, more long flights on same resources = Economy Class = back ache, neck ache, head ache
and always a six year old kicking you in the back of your seat.
No parental control, these days; not like in my day. Humph!
I do fly Club Class when First is not available and it is very good on BA. I can not say the same about AA. I recently flew Business Class from Santiago to Miami with AA and might as well have been trying to sleep on a park bench.
Jul 20th, 2011 - 11:48 am - Link - Report abuse 0You are right that the One World Alliance airlines divide up longer routes so as not to compete.
I confess I am glad I no longer have to travel in cattle class on most journeys. : ) That said, I use LAN for a lot of short internal flights around SoAm and their economy is perfectly comfortable.
14 Fido Dido , you are slowly coming round aren’t you.
Jul 20th, 2011 - 01:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And yes British airways may not be the best, but they will do,
And is not honesty the best policy even for you.
Personally i have been on very few aeroplanes, all with first choice,
And they seem ok.
As for teeth, have you had a bad time at the dentist t perhaps,
As for me, mine are all my own, white and clean,
You must not judge others by one’s own standards,
But we all know that you prefer brits to argies, tell the truth now, lol
Why does cloggs have this fixation about bad teeth? Does anyone know?
Jul 21st, 2011 - 09:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0Given the option I'd fly Emirates or Air New Zealand over BA or Quantas.
Jul 21st, 2011 - 10:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0More to the point I'd rather fly Airbus than Boeing (having just been on a series (8) of long flights in the last couple of months, where every one on a Boeing aircraft (4) was delayed or had something go wrong with it, whereas every one on an Airbus went smoothly).
@22 I absolutely agree. Unfortunately they do not cover the routes I regularly fly. : (
Jul 21st, 2011 - 12:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I was caught in the snow fiasco last Christmas when Heathrow was closed for several days. I was in New York trying to get home for Christmas (though I confess it is a great city to be stranded in!!). Eventually, the only way I could get home with my travel companions was First Class with Kuwait Airlines. Yes, I had heard all the horror stories of this particular airline but TBH it was better than AA and although it is a dry airline, so there was nothing to take the edge off, the staff was great and seats 100% more comfortable than any American airline I have flown on.
The nightmare leg of my trip was entirely a Boeing issue, we were supposed to be flying from Bangkok to Sydney and then three hours after arriving flying from Sydney to Auckland.
Jul 21st, 2011 - 01:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We got as far as taxi-ing into position on the runway and apparently a warning light came on in the cockpit, they told us it would only take about 10-15 minutes.
45 minutes later they dragged us off of the runway (although they didn't let us disemabrk) so they could work on it some more. Unfortunately this meant that they had to power down the engines (fascinating fact: the air conditioning, such as it is, on a 747-400 is powered by the #4 engine, which was switched off).
Three hours after we were supposed to be airbourne we were graciously allowed off of the combination sweatbox/veal crate that our plane had become, it took another hour and a half for them not to fix the fault, but to establish that they could switch off the widget that was causing the light in the first place and get us out of there.
Needless to say, despite making up some time, we still landed in Sydney about an hour after our connection had left.
Fortunately there are Sydney-Auckland planes about every three hours, so we had enough time to join the slowest queue in the world and get new boarding passes with about ten minutes to get across the airport before the gate closed.
We had planned to see a little of Auckland before flying out the following morning, but the delay (plus the time spent dealing with the very helpful woman at Auckland airport's luggage office (didn't I mention that while we had made it onto the plane in Sydney, our luggage hadn't been so lucky)) we made it to our hotel room and passed out for six hours.
Auckland airport deserves a round of applause because our luggage was in the hotel by the time we woke up (covered in EXPEDITE stickers), just in time for us to pick it up and take it back for our next flight.
I now realise why you're not supposed to be smiling in passport photos...
LOL!
Jul 21st, 2011 - 03:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Your story has such a familiarity to it. Last month I was flying from Washington DC to Miami for a connecting flight to Guatemala when, after we boarded, it was announced the Boeing 737 was being taken out of service. Cue, trooping off the aircraft, collecting luggage, a mad dash to Baltimore to get another flight and a later connection to Guatemala.
On the same trip I flew back to Miami to connect to am AA flight to Buenos Aires but that was grounded due to the ashcloud. (Can't really blame the aircraft for that).
But I began to feel a little antipathy towards AA when flying from Santiago to DC (via Miama) they lost my suitcase. Apparently this happens all the time in Miami airport. I explained I was flying back to England the next day and they assured me they would find the case and get it to me. I had almost no hope but true to their word they delivered my case to my friend's apartment at 1:30 am. Yup, 1:30 A. bloody M.
Still, whilst nothing would make me give up my travels, I doubt I could raise a smile at an airport; more likely a rictus.
l cannot fault Singapore Airlines
Jul 22nd, 2011 - 09:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0Flying Blue, only way to go..
Jul 22nd, 2011 - 09:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0been flying to Santiago with BA once and it was a pleasant transatlantic flight. But thats quite a while ago (10years) so don't know if they have improved or got worse since then. But I remember they are the only other airline (except LAN) who uses metal cutlery. If I cannot chose LAN, I would prefer BA hands down over Lufthansa, Iberia, Delta (horrible!), AA and of course over Aerolineas Argentinas (I don't wanna die yet or starve in the initial airport)
Jul 22nd, 2011 - 12:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@28 I have heard some real horror stories about Iberia.
Jul 22nd, 2011 - 02:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As for Aerolineas Argentina, I have used them on some internal routes where there is no alternative but prefer an airline with a more than 50% chance the staff will not be on strike without prior notice. : )
