Europe Minister Lidington, no sovereignty negotiations against the wishes of Gibraltar Europe Minister Lidington, no sovereignty negotiations against the wishes of Gibraltar

Any discussions that UK has on Gibraltar with Spain “reflect our clear position on sovereignty, which is that the UK will never enter into arrangements under which the people of Gibraltar would pass under the sovereignty of another state against their wishes” Europe Minister David Lidington has said.

Answering a question in Parliament from Andrew Rosindell MP he said that “furthermore, the UK will not enter into a process of sovereignty negotiations with which Gibraltar is not content”.

Minister Lidington confirmed that both he and the Foreign Secretary William Hague have regular contact with our Spanish counterparts on a wide range of issues.

In related news it was announced that the UK Government will be making a formal protest following an incident on Friday in which a Spanish navy vessel sailed into Gibraltar waters. The Gibraltar Squadron challenged the patrol boat which stopped near the area of Europa Point.

The “Javier Quiroga” an Atalaya-class vessel was clearly in territorial waters and sailed about though no other vessels were reported to have been approached by it. The Convent anticipated that a formal protest would be made.

The UK is sending a clear message to the rest of the world, your navies can come into our delusional colonial territorial waters, we will just send a note to your Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Argentina take note, send in your boats to the waters around Malvinas, nothing really serious will happen.
