    Replacement of Ice Patrol HMS Protector in the Works?

    HMS Protector a regular scientific explorer in Antarctica waters during the austral months. She is also a regular visitor and strongly linked to the Falklands Islands.

    Portsmouth News has reported that UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) has confirmed that capabilities for a future ice patrol ship are currently in the works. Minister for Defense readiness and industry, Luke Pollard, confirmed the development when responding to a parliamentary written question from Reform (former Tory) MP Andrew Rosindell.

    British Family concern with Darwin Plus suspension and possible axing of vital conservation funds

    The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, RSPB, claims the commitment has now been suspended and the UK spending review in June will determine if it continues.

    Environmentalists, UK MPs and the same British Overseas Territories fear that Chancellor Rachel Reeves could be axing a vital fund, some £10 million to the Darwin Plus scheme, which is essential for scientific research in places such as the Falkland Islands and South Georgia.

    UK improving links with BOTs; announcement this year, Minister Rutley tells Parliament

    MP Andrew Rosindell asked, “what steps he is taking to [a] improve links and [b] increase cooperation with the British Overseas Territories.”

    “The FCDO is leading a refresh of the UK's strategy on the Overseas Territories, for publication this year,” said Minister of State Foreign Office for the Americas and Overseas Territories, David Rutley when asked in Parliament about plans to bolster ties and collaboration with the British Overseas Territories.

    Battle Day 2018 in London

    Andrew Rosindell MP, lays the wreath for the All-Party Falklands Parliamentary Group. MLA Teslyn Barkman lays the wreath for the Falkland Islands Government.

    The annual Falklands memorial service at the Cenotaph took place on the 8th December in brilliant sunshine. On this day in 1914, the naval Battle of the Falkland Islands took place and the ceremony is a commemoration of those who gave their lives then. It also honours those who fell liberating the Islands from Argentine occupation in 1982.
