Rockhopper Exploration’s announcement this week that they expect to begin pumping oil in 2016, set the international media off on a further round of speculation about future wealth, but Falklands stakeholders and interested parties are taking a more cautious approach. Read full article

Sep 19th, 2011 - 01:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0So you like Gadaffi. That explains a lot. So you find it strange that 99.999% of the Libyan people don't like him and the only people he can find to fight for him are Chadian mercenaries from areas of Chad that benefited under his rule? Even Press TV have had to admit no one seems to like him, after they spend weeks claiming everyone loved him!
With the logic that Britain has robbed the Lilyan's in some way, I can understand why you would be so upset about the Falkland Islands. The belief held by so many of your countrymen that the people of the Falklands are really Argentine and they don't like being under the British flag is another idea totally divorced from reality and underlines the level of news reporting and education in your country. Either that or there is a kind of creative thought process, divorced completely from the real world!
Looking at it that way, it would be easy to understand how the Nazi's believed the German's were the master race, how Poland was free under the jackboot and how the Jews, Slavs, Homosexuals, Political Dissidents, Gypsies, etc were liberated by the slave labour / extermination camps! Oh and the common belief in 1940's Argentina that Britain was on the side of the evil ones during WW2!
Have I committed a crime by referring to the Falkland Islands by the name the people who live there want them called? Maybe I should be shot?
Maybe you share the same belief as Think, that only those islanders willing to speak Spanish and adopt a Argentine identity and conform to Argentine norms and customs should be allowed to live there after you have invaded the islands again?

Sep 19th, 2011 - 10:51 am - Link - Report abuse 0Everything is a Reductio ad Hiterum to those who secretly (or not) harbour fascist beliefs and my deduction is that the vast majority of your compatriots posting on this sight habour those beliefs, as demonstrated by their posts (and there lack of ability to see the Falklands in any way other than what they have been preprogrammed by your governments propaganda), whether they realise it or not. The historical line I draw goes back through Argentine history and demonstrates a continuation of a way of thinking in your country long since relegated to the loonies virtually everywhere else in the world. This despite your history.
If we were to reverse the position of the UK and Argentina, where-by the UK claimed las malvinas and Argentina 8,000 miles away governed the islands and wished to get rid of them but was hidebound by the population of those islands and sort to negotiate them away. But then the UK, ruled by a fascist military government invaded the islands at a time when their government was facing increasing unease at home - after a decade of cleansing 50,000 + of the politically active youth of the country via murdering them...
You would be hard pressed to come to any other conclusion than that the British (in this reveresed scenario - to demonstrate your warped thinking) were committing a gross abuse, a violation of international law, an act of aggression, a political side show - costing the lives of 1,000 people. Yet despite you history, despite common knowledge of how the Falklands have and are used by the Argentine government to deflect attention away from their mismanagement at home & hype up the flag waving patriots to drown out the cries of domestic unease you fail to see.
I've spend several years in your country, I know how the issue is used. I know how uninformed the average Argentine is on the issue and how biased anything published on the Falklands is.

BEIJING // China's belated recognition of Libya's new leaders and attempts by Chinese companies to sell weapons to Colonel Muammar Qaddafi's regime have left Beijing scrambling to protect its interests in the country.
It was announced late on Monday that China was officially recognising the National Transitional Council (NTC), more than three months after Beijing officials first met NTC representatives and over six weeks after some western governments transferred diplomatic ties.

The obvious answer would be Rockhopper who desperately need the reinforcement in order to negotiate with the money men. But I’m not so sure. The Foreign Office have a history of viewing the Falklands as a nuisance; an irritation to better relations with South America and Brazil in particular. It is very well-known that the present British Government wish to dramatically improve their relationship with South America’s big performer. Even in the face of Brazil’s support for Argentina

Steve Marshall & News reports 20 September
Rockhopper shareholders reportedly are set to meet senior UK Foreign Office officials to discuss the Falklands.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman told Reuters that officials will discuss any issue that Rockhopper raises”, but did not disclose when the meetings would take place.
Drilling by Rockhopper off the Falklands has further inflamed tensions in the territorial stand-off, with Brazil backing Argentina in banning all Falklands-flagged shipping from its ports.
Most Latin American countries also support Argentina’s claim to the islands, which triggered the 1982 Falklands War that was won by the British.
The flag ban is likely to increase the costs of Falklands shipping and has also raised concern that it could be extended to rigs or offshore vessels working in the region”

That meaned for him he had to learn the language, the customs of Argentina, etc. He didnt live thinking he was on Spain and never wanted to go back either. He educated his sons as argentinians, not looking to Spain. None of my family my grandfather and me thought or will think on buying spanish
products to eat here. They ate our food, thats excellent from my point of view and sometimes prepared a dish usual on Spain. But they and we dont have Spain on our head. And its so natural for me, that really sorry for what I say, but I cant understand you and sounds me silly that of the irish butter.

Sep 21st, 2011 - 11:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0why cant the plane go arround and get to the falklands from the south.
WE NEED A TOTAL EXCLUSION ZONE PLACED AROUND THE ISLANDS AND WE WILL STARVE COLONIAL OCCUPATION FORCES AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS OUT OF LAS MALVINAS.
Sep 22nd, 2011 - 12:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0Malen - there is no diplomatic option. They only two options for Argentina are:
Sep 22nd, 2011 - 05:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0a) Legal
b) Military
You are unwilling to have your arguments subject to legal scrutiny and are incapable of any military action. The Union Flag flies proudly over the Falkland Islands and the drilling continues.
Probably about time Argentina started to reach out and work with the FIG because all you are doing in ratcheting up the animosity they have to you. But I suppose this is worth it considering CFK is only hair the islands to further bolster her internal popularity. She clearly has no serious or joined up policy on FI soverignty.

Sep 22nd, 2011 - 04:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well you've hit the nail on the head again.
Your grandfather made his own choices and good for him.
Falkland Islanders have made their own choices, and being Argentinean isn't it. Apart from all those native born Falkland Islanders, who haven't made any choice at all. They just are what they are.
All your sanctimonious crap about not buying 'Spanish' is truly unbelievable. We bought huge quantities of goods from South America until very recently, and were very pleased to do so. Your government stopped it and forced us to buy from Europe.
It was you that started the whole 'Irish Butter' thing. I was very happy with Chilean butter.
Only you could be so unbelievably dense as to see your government do something disgraceful to us and then mock us for it. You really are a shockingly unpleasant piece of work.
It's your fault and your responsibility. It is a pity, but it's in your hands.
#8 Marcos Alejandro Libya: Tony Blair and Col Gaddafi's secret meetings
Sep 22nd, 2011 - 05:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0“Nice piccy of two friends.
One, a deceitful, lying,murderous megalomaniac.....the other Gaddafi!”
For once I agree with you Marcos. Blair was a lying manipulative traitor who sold his country out to everyone he could find, courted dictators and played around with the UK's constitutional law to suit the ends of his own party.
There are rumours that Rockhopper is set to be taken over.

and using that as an exuse, to either do things,
or excape responsability.

Sep 23rd, 2011 - 10:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes (bangs head on table). You are completely right. You Argentines arrived in argentina at different times, sometimes by choice, sometimes not.
So did Falkland Islanders.
The difference is that no-one's trying to terrorise you into being something different.
i take your words: FI arrived at different times, sometimes by choice, SOMETIMES NOT. OK
Sep 23rd, 2011 - 11:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Then the difference is we got independance in 1810 from the spanish that invade and colonized us, remember. Latter came inmigrants, from different countries and specially Italy.
Why didnt you got independance through 178 years??
83 Monty69 There is a big difference, none of those inmigrants claimed any piece of Argentinean land for their country of origin, including British. We are all Argentineans.
Sep 24th, 2011 - 12:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0We got independence in 1810 from the Spanish that invade and colonized us, remember. Latter came immigrants, from different countries and specially Italy.
Sep 24th, 2011 - 10:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0/////////////////////////
please explain, im not into this, are you saying that Spain invaded Argentina, and attracted Argentineans and colonized you,
Argentina was in independent country and the Spanish did this to you,, that’s bad that is, lucky for you, Argentinean troops and the Argentina navy beat the Spanish then,, buy hey, all that bad luck, then argentine was swamped with all these immigrants from Europe and Italy,, poor you,??
////////////////////////////////////
Why has not the Falklands got independence,
Well im not an expert on this, but may I suggest, that one reason is because they wish to remain British,
knowing full well, that if they did get this, independence, that nasty great bully called Argentina, would invade them,,, does this help ,,
Briton, Many British moved to mainland Argentina and they wish to remain British as well, however they did not claim parts of Argentina for Britain.

Many immigrants live in great Britain,
Sep 24th, 2011 - 05:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They don’t claim it for their country either,
The fact is Marcos Alejandro ,,,,,,,
They went their of their own free will to Argentina and choose to live there,
And will probably die their,
Any children they have WILL be Argentin,
Full stop am I right or not,
////////////////////////////////////
The Falklands island people went there because they freely wanted to,
Any children will be Falkland islander ,Am I right or wrong////////
People who live and born in Argentina freely, wish to be ruled by Argentina, and Great Britain excepts this,
Am I right or wrong
////////////////
The Falkland islanders freely choose to be rules by the British, BUTARGENTINA REFUSES THAT RIGHT
Am I right or wrong,

Sep 25th, 2011 - 06:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0We aren't independent because the time isn't right yet. Perhaps it never will be. But it has to be our decision, not yours or anyone else's.
My personal view is that the time may be approaching for a form of independence with free association with another country. I doubt everyone would agree. My own household don't even all agree!
Yes malen, it will be our decision about independence, not yours.
Sep 25th, 2011 - 09:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Independence with free association is staying in the same place, nothing changes.
Sep 26th, 2011 - 12:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0You will never be 100 % independent.
UK wont let you.
They are doing everything so they can take the benefits, although you may think you are getting them.
lf that is true, malen, then that is our problem & not yours.
Sep 26th, 2011 - 05:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0But thank you for your concern.
