The Falkland Islands Government Chief Executive Dr Tim Thorogood has tendered his resignation to the Governor, reported on Wednesday Government House.

Dr Thorogood has cited “personal reasons for the decision, which he has described as very difficult to make and taken with much regret”.

Further on the said that he has very much enjoyed his time as Chief Executive and his work on behalf of the Falkland Islands, and that he would remain a staunch supporter and advocate of the Islands.

The FIG CEO last working day will be 1 February 2012.

Governor Nigel Haywood commented that, whilst sorry to receive the news of Dr Thorogood's resignation, he understood the reasons behind the decision.

The Governor has praised the drive that Dr Thorogood has provided the Government, adding that this provided a firm basis for a successor to build on.

Speaking on behalf of the Falklands’ elected Legislative Assembly, MLA Emma Edwards said, “The Members of the Legislative Assembly understand Dr Thorogood's decision, and we would like to thank Dr Thorogood for his work and wish him all the best for the future”.

The release concludes announcing the Governor will work with MLAs to launch the process to find a successor.

Dr Thorogood was appointed Chief Executive by the Falklands Legislative in August 2007 and took office in January 2008.
