The ruling coalition of Argentine President Cristina Kirchner also had a landslide performance in the governorships taking eight out of nine, with an impressive victory in Buenos Aires where governor Daniel Scioli was re-elected by with 56% of the vote, even better than his mentor.

CFK allies won in Buenos Aires, San Juan, Formosa, Entre Rios, Jujuy, Mendoza, La Pampa and Santa Cruz according to the preliminary results. The only province that avoided the Cristina Fernandez magic touch was San Luis that has been ruled by the Rodriguez Sáa brothers for over four decades.

In Buenos Aires province the backbone of the ruling coalition (and 37% of Argentina’s electorate) Scioli mustered 56% of the vote and was followed by Francisco De Narváez with 20%.

“This victory is the obvious result of the overwhelming support to the national development project started by Nestor Kirchner and which so wisely the President is conducting”, said Scioli in his celebration speech.

Besides dedicating victory to President Cristina Fernandez, Scioli thanked his team and the dedication and commitment of all the mayors of metropolitan Buenos Aires where the political power of the ruling coalition rests.

In the wine province of Mendoza a close ally of CFK running for her Victory Front, Francisco Perez was elected governor. The victory has something special since Cristina Fernandez current vice-president Julio Cobos, is from Mendoza and as president of the Senate voted against the Kirchners in 2008,when the confrontation with protesting farmers almost derailing the administration.

Although her closest aides referred to Cobos as a ‘traitor’, Cristina Fernandez was never heard using that word publicly, she avoided him and did not talk to him again.

In the following 2009 mid-term election CFK suffered her major electoral defeat and lost control of the houses in Congress. But since then the president managed to overcome defeat and obtain a major victory.
