Luis Maria Kreckler currently Argentina’s Foreign Ministry’s Trade and Economic Affairs secretary and who was also considered a strong candidate to be the Foreign Minister in the next presidential cabinet, was appointed as Argentina’s Ambassador to Brazil.
It was officially announced that President Cristina Fernández “has requested for the approval” to Ambassador Luis María Kreckler and it “was immediately accepted by the Brazilian government.”
Kreckler is a career diplomat and has worked in the economic department of the Foreign Ministry during the administration of Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández.
Brazil has become Argentina’s main trade partner and the main market for its exports of manufactured goods, particularly the auto industry.
However relations have not always been smooth with both sides appealing to non-automatic licences which allow a delay (up to 60 days) in dispatching imports if domestic production or markets are considered to be endangered.
Since both countries value what they have described as their “strategic alliance” in trade, economic and political affairs, particularly in regional affairs, Brazilian diplomacy applied “strategic patience” with Argentina until the presidential election with the landslide victory of Cristina Fernandez was behind.
This means that Brazil will not be so patient or tolerant now with Argentina regarding written and non written obstacles to bilateral trade, as has been the policy of the Cristina Fernandez administration so far alleging the defence of Argentina jobs and the domestic market.
The Argentine policy of substituting imports and promoting “re-industrialization” is bound to force major disputes with Brazil which has a more competitive industry vis-à-vis Argentina’s. No wonder then that an expert in trade issues has been named ambassador in Brazil, becoming the first significant nomination of CFK second four year mandate.

Disclaimer & comment rulesThe G20 and the IMF (and almost certainly President Obama of the USA) are telling Argentina to take down its trade protection barriers so it can receive support from the world's big agencies. Dilma will tell/has told CFK that the '60 day' barrier is past its sell-by date. Car sales to Brasil can be turned off like a tap to make this happen - the last two months are the evidence.

Also Timerman has served his time; time for him to return to ONGs and journalism - or to just retire gracefully.
However, Marco Rimoldi could be more proper nominee
