In response to Mercosur's ban on all shipping flying the Falkland's flag in their ports and Argentina's continued efforts to isolate the Falkland Islands, we the undersigned request that the British government lobbies the European Union for a formal declaration of support for the Falkland Islands as a British Overseas Territory and to demand the lifting of all Mercosur sanctions against the Falkland Islands. The population of the Falkland Islands wishes to remain British, but Argentina is successfully mobilising support against this, both from Latin America and the USA. Britain needs to pursue support for its claim. In considering this request, the EU should consider the wishes of the population of the Falklands and also the value of the Falkland Islands' resources, oil and gas in particular, as part of the EU economy.

Bravo a fine statement and about time, an added bonus would be that the Falklands would thus be an integral part of the United Kingdoms territory, and thus any attempt by Argentina to exercise control over the Falklands would be a violation of the territorial integrity of the UK as stated by resolution 1514 (not my words but Argentinas tee hee!)....oh and added to that we would also have the self-determination argument.

Nothing to do with that fact that they have taken a page out of Gordon Browns monetary policy (borrow lots of money in the run up to the election and bribe the electorate with generous but unsustainable social policy) and are now running a deficit of $22 billion and have all but wiped out their budget surplus of $25 billion from the previous year!

What a good idea. Representation in the house of commons would finally end this pointless debate. The Falklands would become an integrated part of the United Kingdom. Then any attack on the Islands would be an attack on British national territory, and NATO would be obliged to assist us in the unlikely event that the outdated and poorly funded Argentine military managed to overcome the Falkland Island's formidable defences. It would be over in a matter of days. Getting representation in Parliament would also give the Falklanders more of a say in the UK as a whole, and allow them to further their own economic interests, creating more prosperity for the islands as a whole.

I have long thought that giving the falklanders and citizens in the other overseas territories a proper say in parliament is a good idea, as long as the affected populations are happy with becoming a formal part of the UK.

They are irelevant, as they have no say in determining the falkland islands future and only UK citizens residing in the UK at time of voting are eligible to vote if it even went to a public/national vote, which i doubt it would. Execpt for in the Falkland Islands.

One all Europeans hate argentinian cry babies (grow up they say). Two the conservative party are not thinking about how to get rid of the islands, they are clearly considering making them a formal part of the UK itself as shown in the article above (leanr to read before you post numb nuts) and 3, yes you would have got the islands back in the 80's but then you stupid dumb idiots decided to invade and ruined any chance of ever getting the islands. So the stupid ones are not us, but really its argentina and yourself that is the stupid dumb idiots here.
