Argentine President Cristina Fernández will make an official visit to Chile next month, amidst a power struggle as both Argentina and the UK struggle to gather support from the international community in the Falklands/Malvinas Islands controversy.
According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Cristina Fernandez will be joined by “an important delegation” and will fly to Chile to share a “work meeting” with president Sebastián Piñera, in which they will discuss matters of regional and bilateral interest.
The visit is scheduled to take place on the 15th and 16th of March.
Chile is a key piece in the Falklands/Malvinas diplomatic conflict because from Santiago take off weekly commercial flights bound for the Islands.
CFK was scheduled to visit Chile last January, but she was forced to postpone her trip due to a thyroid surgery she underwent early last month.
On Tuesday night, British Prime Minister David Cameron called Piñera to discuss among other issues the South Atlantic islands sovereignty issue.
The Argentine president visit will be her first trip overseas since taking office last December.
