Argentine members of the opposition have warned that they will not attend a Friday special session of the Senate and Lower House Foreign Affairs committees to be held in Tierra del Fuego and dedicated to the Malvinas issue unless the overall position of the diplomatic conflict is openly debated.

Although members of the opposition supported the initiative to hold a session in Ushuaia when it was first presented, the Radical Party, PRO and Dissident Peronism warned that they will not travel to listen to the “official speech” and highlighted that they hope to debate Argentina’s “position” over the conflict and how it is being managed.

The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Lower House of Congress, Guillermo Carmona, called for a meeting for next Wednesday, where the opposition is willing to present their differences about the encounter.

If they do not reach an agreement, some lawmakers will not be able to travel to Tierra del Fuego province.

The Broad Progressive Front (FAP) did not confirm its attendance, although sources said that the head of the GEN, Margarita Stolbizer, is planning to travel.

The Kirchner grouping Victory Front stated that if they do not count with the support of the anti-kirchnerite blocs they “will not reach the aims” of the meeting.

“The main objective is to present a declaration of all the parties over the Malvinas issue,” the head of the Kirchnerite bloc, Agustín Rossi, said.

The encounter was organized to reinforce the claims over the Malvinas Islands’ sovereignty and follows an initiative from the governor of Tierra del Fuego Fabiana Rios.

Under the 1994 Argentine constitution, the extreme south jurisdiction of Argentina includes Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands.

This is great. The Argentinian far-right and the Argentinian far-left want to discuss a decision they both agree on. That's putting Argentina's tax money to use!

The argentine position about Malvinas Islands don´t depend of the right or the left and neither depend of some political party. Everybody must know that the whole Argentina and the whole South America (and a lot of other countries in the world) know that these Islands belong to Argentina and it will be so for ever. Nobody will be able to change this fact. In this sense, this fact won´t change as a consequence of the stealing performed by UK using the military force. This country only have its pirate war vessels with its ridiculous “prince” doing nonsense there to maintain this usurpation but it hasn´t any valid arguments to steal the territories and resources of South America.
