The biggest-ever pipeline of copper projects is under threat as Chile, the world's top producer, struggles to contain rising opposition to new power plants. Read full article
not a big drama yet... may the demand rise (and price for the commodity too). Chile, as a huge worldwide leader of production, may afford to not expand it's opperation at any (enviromental) cost. The copper under the earth will not dissapear...
Chilean environmentalists are against hydro electricity projects. These jerks are going to ruin the progress of the country. Imbeciles the lot of them, but I bet they still use their flat panel TVs and computers and AC. Scumbags.
I thought I read when I was there a couple of months ago that they got approval for 5 dams in the south - Rio Simpson, etc? Maybe I'm mixing it up with another story, but I thought they had 22 dams planned in the south and they got approval for a chunk of them and that they expected to get approval for almost all of them? I don't understand also why you don't hear more about possible solar plants in the north? Once you get past the marine layer on the coast, there's quite a bit of sun in the Atacama right?
They better figure something out. Copper makes up about 60% of GDP. Without copper, Chile would be Guatemala, Bolivia, etc.

The basis of democracy is to respect your fellow citizen opinions.....
Even when they disagree with you.
Calling 70% of your fellow Chileans for Imbeciles and Scumbags is not very respectfull or democratic.
