    Nothing cheap or fake about it dip shit, it was an extravagant spectacle of and a message of the sheer awesomeness of the UK....Nailed it on the head....it was dam popular....Ironic isn't it, a hereditary monarch is more popular than your plastic president :)

    What do you celebrate in Argentina? Oh yes miserable moros presesions celebrating conquering 1,500 islanders briefly in 1982 :)

    We thank you, Your Majesty, for 60 years of hard work and undying devotion to our country, the commonwealth and all the peoples who reside there.

    Long may you continue to reign, and I hope Prince Phillip makes a full recovery, and rejoins you soon.

    God Bless You and your family.

    @1 No, dumbass. YOU have populism. WE have POPULAR. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. A very great lady. Unlike the slutty trash one encounters in south america.

    NOTE: There's something wrong with “aussie sunshine”. Has he had a pre-frontal lobotomy? Or have his marbles rolled under a chair?

    Not everyone in Britain is in favor of the British monarchy. I´d say its half and half. They've got a busy PR system keeping them in place.

    @9 I have only heard a few old farts complaining about it. People love to whinge but if they ever had to seriously consider the alternative to a constitutional monarchy, the British would recoil from the idea. The Monarchy stops politicians from becoming too powerful, whilst remaining impartial, and that can only be a good thing.

    60 years of service deserves recognition.

    @Searinox

    100% agree with you brother/sister

    @Elaine

    Which part the -half and half- or the busy PR system?

    Ok maybe half and half is a bit optimistic. I'm swayed by the demographic I am a part of and the circles I move in.

    But it seems to me that most people don't care too strongly either way and thats its only a minority that firmly support them. Apathy by accident helps maintain the status quo

    The younger generations arent too bothered. The liberals and contemporary urban types don't want them. I don't think Scotland is too bothered. And the Scottish and Welsh nationalists are not keen. That's a sizeable proportion of the British public.

    I understand Falklanders feel a strong link to the British monarchy as it offers a clear sense of traditional British identity and thus security against Argentina and of course the British armed forces with their strong symbolic association with the monarchy are very much appreciated and part of Falkand life.

    The Royal family have to work for a living. They have to open public buildings and ceremonies, they have to serve in the army, they have to have likable figures that smile alot and say the right things and make the effort to connect with the 'common' man.

    But Im sure they would rather sit in front of a roaring fire with a fine cognac whilst servants fuss over them than open an old peoples home on a cold wet December morning in Miserable-upon-sea. I know I would and can imagine many others would too.

    Their public activities and 'free' (taxpaid) celebrations are public relation activities to justify their existence and to woo us.

    @7 Definitely not true. Recent polls show support to be on the order of 66%. But then polls are rarely accurate. Perhaps more indicative is the number of members of the organisation “Republic” that turned up to protest. Around 100! Another indication is the comments that are posted on articles in the British press about the Royal Family. You can see waves of anti-monarchist or republican comments. But when you come to analyse them, they are all being made by the same few people. Much the way the pro-CFK argie bloggers work on here.
    @9 No, it's not populism. Let's make a comparison between, say, CFK and Her Majesty. CFK makes regular, orchestrated, rabble-rousing appearances, broadcasts, etc supported by her paid bully-boys. Her Majesty makes regular visits to various venues. Few of them are nationally reported. In many cases, only the organisation she goes to visit knows. And if it costs? Well, Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee only takes place ONCE every SIXTY years. How many “celebratory” events has CFK attended? After deciding they should take place. Gawd, she even managed to celebrate argieland LOSING a war it started. I think she's afraid people will forget who she is. No danger of that with Her Majesty!
    @11 Our Queen is our foundation. She reminds us of over 1100 years of our history. That, at the end of the day, everyone who has ever come against us has either lost or had to declare a draw. That we will NEVER be beaten. That we can and will protect ourselves and anyone that depends on us to the death. Her Majesty has been, and is, indomitable. So are we! God Save the Queen!
    @12 You jest! “And the Scottish and Welsh nationalists are not keen. That's a sizeable proportion of the British public.” Really? If you said every member of the Scottish and Welsh populations, it would still only be 13% of the population. As for the “wets” and the “snootys”, who cares? Maybe you'll understand more when you become an adult!

    @Conqueror

    I don't think the monarchy would be too happy if Scotland and Wales broke loose - which they could.

    There weren't many people protesting at the Jubilee because as I have admitted the majority of people are not particularly interested especially when there are more important issues facing them. Its not a pressing issue. I guess though that many people are curious of the pomp and ceremony and entertained by the free (taxpaid) concerts and events. Its alot like the old Roman colosseum for the masses entertainment distraction tactic. Not dissimilar to CFKs populism tactics.

    “Not everyone in Britain is in favor of the British monarchy. I´d say its half and half. ”

    Millions of people watch the weddings, Celebrations, ect.

    Few hundred turn up and protest.

    Yes, clearly a 50/50 situation.

    @12 I kind of answered it @11.

    If it came to a serious consideration of becoming a republic the British people would recoil from it. For many reasons and not because the majority are royalists. The alternative would not be as appealing to the British and we are notorious for resisting change.
    You are right that the majority are not really inclined to have a strong opinion other than to leave things as they are. It's called hapathy. Generally, people don't really think about The Royals because they go about their business without too much fanfare and they really do not get daily mentions in the media except for special incidents and occasions.

    Well done Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God Queen of this Realm and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

    Once again some of you Argies speak bollexx,
    The only thing wrong was the fuck up by politicians,
    No fleet review, cause they decommissioned most of them, crappy Cameron,

    Britain is a monarchy
    if you Argies don’t like that , then tough shit,
    millions around the world loved it, our queen has given 60 years of dedicated service, and gets slagged of all time by idiots like you lot, and others, knowing full well she cannot respond,
    She has done a fantastic job, and proud to be British,
    Sadly in this ungrateful world, there will always be some jealousy and , envious people ,

    But hey, but for the Falklands, you guys would even mention it,
    So its all just anti British,
    We have it, and you can only dream of it,
    Even if we have very today, while we go through these hard times, its still better than you envious lot.

    Soddy offy and cry for CFK , as no one else will.

    look you can say what you want, but Ask the students who lost their educational benefits by budget cuts or unemployed people what do they think about that monarchy party...
    All that money could help the british students on their scholarships, or imagine how many jobs they could create with all that money...
    And you say thats not populism?

    Tobers, i dont know which tin pot banana republic you come from but you are speculating on a concept of which you know nothing. You need to educate yourself, public support for the monarchy in the UK is massive, easily at 80%. You need to take a look at your own regime before you criticise ours. Dont be fooled by the media hype about Scottish independence, it aint gonna happen - too much uncertainty in Europe to cut themselves off from London 'the largest financial centre in the world'. Its all piss and wind, a bit like you! Now run along, those bananas aint gonna pick themselves :-)

    @21 Who? What? That is nonsense. A very good standard of free education is available to student until the age of eighteen. Financially challenged university students get ALL of their fees paid. Students taking out loans at favourable rates do not have to pay anyything back until their earnings reach a certain level. The unemployed are well taken care of in the UK; some would say too generously.

    21 Thanks to HM jubilee celebration thousands of tourists have left millions of pounds in London. Pounds that will fund many projects and create jobs which will get Great Britain out of the recession and once you get the country out of the recession students will get their scholarships back...all thanks to The Monarchy. If the Monarchy did not exist there would not have been any celebration and no tourists and no pounds....

    I'm really looking forward to 2014 and to seeing the look on Salmond's face when his chooks come home to roost :-)

    I know lots of formerly overseas-resident oil workers who renewed their Scottish residence status not too long ago with the sole purpose of being able to cast a NO vote - and they aren't the only ones. Poor old Alex... all for nothing.

    I quite like the monarchy - I think it's good to have a head of state who is non-political and who can act as a rallying point for the nation. Someone who embodies our traditions and history.

    I was invited to a street party by some friends on sunday - in the belting rain. We put up some gazebos, put the food on tables inside a large garage, put out some games - and had a great time despite the weather. If we got cold we went in, made a hot drink, watched a bit of telly (the pageant was OK) then went back out again.

    Barbeque food was cooked indoors at the end of the day - and washed down with a great bottle of beer.

    A good day!

    If the Argentines don't like - excellent! Anything that annoys you lot gets my full support.
