Uruguay meat exports so far this year (June 9) represented 766 million dollars which is slightly higher that the same period last year when the sum was 722 million dollars; likewise tonnage was 195.459 compared to 184.749 tons in 2011.
According to the latest release from Uruguay’s Meat Board, INAC, total exports of beef reached 165.213 tons (including carcass), with the main buyers as blocks of countries, Russian Federation, Nafta, European Union, Israel and Mercosur, which absorbed 86% of total overseas sales.
In dollars beef sales totalled 633 million dollars, mainly from the EU, Mercosur and Nafta, together with the Russian Federation and Israel representing 85% of overall income. .
Ovine meat exports (lamb and mutton) and expressed in carcass weight reached 5.775 tons. Main markets EU, Mercosur and Jordan which represent 65% of exports. The value of ovine meat exports reached 24 million dollars, again the EU, Mercosur and Jordan make up 72% of exports in dollars.
