Luton is the UK’s most unfriendly airport, with Edinburgh the most welcoming, according to a survey. The Bedfordshire airport got the thumbs-down from travellers asked to rate the friendliness of staff in a poll by travel search site Skyscanner. Read full article

Aug 23rd, 2012 - 06:23 am - Link - Report abuse 0I mean they even give a warm welcome to terrorists...
Too soon?
Do you see the trend ? The further North you go, the friendlier the people.
Aug 23rd, 2012 - 12:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If you got to Kirkwall or Lerwick, it would probably have been a 10.
To be fair, I have been through Paris twice and did not have any problems. All I said was je suis ecossais and a bas l'angleterre - passed through with smiles !
Glaswegians are a friendly and helpful people. However they have a peculiar trait of running towards danger - not away from it.
When the fracas with the failed suicide bombers took place at Glasgow airport the world's press thought the reaction of the public was something unbelievable. Instead of running away, they went in to sort out these people. The same result would have been seen anywhere in the city. You are most welcome but don't try anything on with us.
A living example of the Scottish motto :- nemo me impune lacessit -
no one provokes me with impunity
or, in Scots Wha daur meddle wi me
I like Edinburgh airport, it is however very small so it may be easier to be friendly?

Aug 23rd, 2012 - 01:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Wasn't the one injury (aside from the failed suicide bomber) one irate Scotsman who ran up to the suicide bomber (who was at this point on fire and burning very well) and broke a couple of bones in his foot kicking him in the crotch?
Surly this one should have made the list

I think it's easier for a small airport to be friendly. The larger the airport is, the more we all just become another 'faceless' passenger.
Aug 23rd, 2012 - 03:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The worst airport I've ever incountered was O'Hare in Chicago. Confusing signs, and unfriendly (almost belligerent) staff. Going through security was worse. They treated everyone, including American citizens, like sh!t.
A mate of mine tried to complain about their attitude and he was hauled off as a trouble maker, his visa revoked and he found himself on the next flight out. Yup, avoid O'Hare like the plague.
However, that's the only airport in the USA that was really awful, New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Orlando, Dallas, Seattle and even Detroit; at their airports the people were very friendly and helpful.
LA Airport is also the pits. Two hours in a queue and I was only trying to get on my flight to Fiji However, I did manage to confuse one lady security person.
Aug 23rd, 2012 - 04:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As I approached the security check point she said you may wanna take off your shoes I said no thanks, I am perfectly happy with them on
The look on her face was priceless, complete bewilderment and then she waved me through.

I believe it was someone who wrestled one of the bombers to the ground who broke a bone. The kick in the crotch is just a Glasgow greeting to those that annoy them. It would normally be a head butt, however, in this case. as the bombers head was on fire, a swift kick was less dangerous and equally effective !
I suppose it's easy to be nice if you have upto a thousand passengers a day coming through as opposed over a hundred thousand. I think the most impressive result is Manchester, which is the size of gatwick but right up at the top of the survey results.
Aug 23rd, 2012 - 06:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Outside the UK, Singapore must rate very highly. Beautifully clean with displays of orchids and everyone helpful.
Aug 24th, 2012 - 11:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0When we arrived from AUCKLAND and went to immigration, they opened up 15 desks to clear 200 passengers. We were through in no time.
When the immigration officer looked at my wife's passport, she wished her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY - not what you expect from a government official but a nice gesture.
Edinburgh the most welcoming UK airport
Aug 24th, 2012 - 11:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Just give up those illegal horrible tasting haggis at arrival :-(
Passengers to Edinburgh Airport are to be given a free meal if they participate in a haggis amnesty
