“A wealth of experience”. Very appropriate for a Financial Secretary so well done the Hon Nicola. Good to see that with this appointment there is no PR spin that the post, which gives the incumbent an unelected seat in the Assembly and the Council, has been given to “one of our own” this time.

No. Nic will not be called 'Hon' because she is not an elected member and therefore has no vote. She can attend assembly meetings and speak.
So the 'spin' is all yours.
As for 'one of our own', the job has been given to a PRP or FI Status holder for as long as I can remember. And your point is what?

    OK.
Anyway, lovely weather we've been having for the time of year. A bit too dry though, to be honest.

@7 Oh dear, here we go again. Another Monty69assertion that contradicts the information given on the FIG website. Putting aside the courtesy title so beloved in our former West African former colonies, let's focus on status and misleading information shall we?

I take as my text this week http://www.falklands.gov.fk/assembly/

”Each year the elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) elect three of their number to the policy making body of the Government, Executive Council. Executive Council is chaired by HE the Governor. Membership includes the same ex-officio members who sit on the Legislative Assembly. In addition, the Attorney General and CBFSAI may attend and speak on any matter”. There is, of course, more but this is enough for illustration.

So, what does this mean to the skilled but locally uninformed reader who hasn't the time to read the Constitution? Well, it might reasonably be taken to mean that the Financial Secretary and the Chief Executive have the rights and privileges of full members while CBFSAI and the AG can attend and speak. If not it would say....oh you can probably get help to work it out for yourself. And don't bother trying to explain the difference between consensus building and majority voting. I already know.

Now you are right and this is wrong (it's in the Constitution), but it might be helpful for the public image of FIG if the picture that is painted on the FIG website more closely resembled the reality. No point sending elected Assembly members round the world if the world comes to the islands through the ether and gets the wrong message.

My final point is that this announcement, refreshingly free from spin, differs from the one announcing the new Chief Executive where “We are pleased that the job has gone to someone who has worked his way up through the FIG system”.

    See:

    http://www.falklands.gov.fk/assembly/

    including the comments.

Am I to deduce from all that verbiage that I was right?

I take as my text Ps146: Put not thy trust in politicians, for they faileth to define 'ex officio' and causeth the foolish man to cast his pearls before swine so that no man may understand whatsoever he may blither on about'.

@13 Verbiage, Madam? Intelligent oratory, rhetoric, sophistry even but not verbiage, surely?

As for being a foolish man; perhaps I am.
As for my words of wisdom being pearls; sometimes they are.
As for you being swine; I wouldn't be so unfair to the pigs.

“Originally from Exeter, Nic earned her honours degree in Business Information Systems from the University of the West of England before joining Mazars LLP”

    Hmmm...

#3 Elect a Cristinista Governor is what I'd try to do =)

#4 She's OK but no Cristina...

I hope your ledger book's columns are wide Nic.

    Oil oil beautiful oil.

I hope that's not reportable to the SFA. The Argentines might tell.

I really didn't expect to be in the UK again so soon but that's life. What a nice day it is in West Sussex too.

More than she could under the present Argentine dictatorship, if it were to steal the Falkland Islands.
Not that it has a snowball in hell's chance even with that joker the Chav helping out.

The smell of fish around JB turned out to be the smell of gas. Perhaps that explains why he suddenly found himself in West Sussex without realising he was going there. Family matters or personal stuff such as medical trips probably.

OveroverD- Sorry but your interpretation is not correct- Voting powers in The Leg Assemby AND Executive Council are ONLY held by the Elected Members.
No Civil Servant nor CBFSAI nor the Governor who attends and speaks as they are in charge of said departments can actually vote- N0-NON-NIET - do you get it?

MistyThink 0 What can she do beneathe the Governor,s power? Well he does not have any power over her.
The Financial Secretary runs the Treasury and is responsible for preparing and executing the annual national budget - once it is approved by the elected members.
Bugger all to do with the Governor - he can comment on it but that is all.

    @20

I don't like re-posting but I'll make an exception this time....

”Now you are right and this is wrong (it's in the Constitution), but it might be helpful for the public image of FIG if the picture that is painted on the FIG website more closely resembled the reality. It's a shame that even constructive criticism gets flamed by you people. Further, you can hardly be surprised that your assertions are met with cynicism from those who can read the Constitution for themselves. Evidence is legion that the Governor has rather more to do than ”Bugger All” but Paras 56 and 67 suffice to make the point.
