Brazils legacy [slavery] and still has racial problems today,

Perhaps she should concentrate on dealing with these fallacies before she embarks on world glory,

Otherwise she just may end up along side Argentina at the dole office.

    The world is your oyster,
Don’t let others steal it from you.

Colombia is joining Mexico, because Brazil has it's own Agenda.

agreed, Brazil has interest in global proyection which it already has in someway with the BRICS, Colombia isn´t an active participant in mercosur and already has an economic proyect with Peru, Chile and Mexico so I guess it changing groups makes sense.

And well, I guess the problem with southamerica idea is that it´s build over a more old idea the latam concept, Colombia and the majority of spanish speaking countries in Latam are more familiar with the Latam concept than with the southamerican one, this last one build in part by Brazil.

My guess is that Latam region needs a multiparty representation of south, cetral and the caribean region, the economic union I dont see much neccesary but a political one yes it´s, At least for the moment political organizations are in place already, hope they see the neccesity of working more togeter in the future, It´s both neccesary and makes sense given our similar problems.
