The economy expanded more than forecast in the third quarter, paced by a pickup in consumer spending, a rebound in government outlays and gains in residential construction. GDP rose 2% annual rate after climbing 1.3% in the prior quarter, Commerce Department figures showed on Friday. Read full article

The point is,,
IRAN,

France and Argentina, hand in hand dancing together in support..
Or will he have to turn, once again to that poor little island in the north Atlantic, to whom he rejected for France, his new friend in Europe,
Or Argentina, to whom Clinton was ready and willing to help get the islands back, all friendly of course.
OBAMA,
Good for Argies, not so welcome news, to the brits,

Oct 27th, 2012 - 07:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0With all respect, I think that's just mouthcrap. The real issue laus in stopping the exodus of production companies.
Thing is, if you have no local production, you need to import stuff at a higher price. That is costly and hence you will need a local production to cope with it. For that you need cash. That can be borrowed at the WB or the IMF at rates that are depending on your country's rating. If you rate good, problem is almost solved, but if you rate badly you can borrow little money at high rent, barely enough to upkeep a stumbling society, much less to start own production. So all you can do is to sell what you have, that being unprocessed natural resources.
I know these issues seem fairly distant to you lot, but China is buying your debts and she doesn't rate you AAA...
china, is a different kettle of fish,

If you are in the bottom, only outer influence can bring you up, there is nothing you can do when forced to pay more than you can loan. Especially when the market is globalized and production is out-sourced.
You lot are top of the foodchain, you can change the rules of this game. Do so before it is too late, it might hit you in the back.

Oct 27th, 2012 - 08:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0One of the biggest challenges in the world is getting food aid in to a hungry kid in a way that doesn't collapse local production, isn't traded for political support, or isn't siphoned to the black market.
Oct 27th, 2012 - 08:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Or medical aid! Corrupt governments stay in power because the Red Cross & Doctors without Borders are forced into agreements where they must treat all sides, meaning patching up the well-trained militia to get more experience, as well as the little kids.
If NGOs supply medical and food and roads for their citizenry & military, these governments then have more money for corruption or weapons .
Still NGOS persist, because slowly, compassion is contagious.
It is.
And the U.S. Supplies half the food aid in the world.

It doesn't matter who wins, OBAMA and ROMNEY are the EXACT same people.
Oct 29th, 2012 - 01:27 am - Link - Report abuse 0Warfare: Obama clearly hasn't held back...Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan. Iran is most likely next. Syria is already requiring the non military support of the USA. Then there are the drone wars all over the middle east. Really the guy isn't very peaceful. As for Romney, he would like to shoot stuff too, and openely admits it.
Welfare: Well we know Obama's stance, but Romney??!! He is for some kind of goverment healthcare, he support more money for education loans and who knows what else. Again the two are very similar.
Deficit: Well Obama raised it o 16 trillion dollars. Romney could probably manage to outdo him. Bush managed a few trillion. It's almost like a game to see who can get the highest score.
Privacy: Bush did the Patriot Act (soooo patriotic) and Obama the NDDA or whatever it is called. Romney support both.
Now what do they differ on....???? Abortion and gay marriage. That is it. So the USA politics have simplified it for the voters. Personally I hope Obama wins it and then things get really bad (Romney they would get just as bad). That way socialism will be blamed, maybe, and we can go back to more freedoms. Let people work again and keep their own money. Eliminate the parasites that live off of other people through welfare, warfare, etc. Enough GIGANTIC GOVERNMENT.
@40 we have Ron Paul, who has DECADES, decades of voting for peace in the Senate, but because he's a libertarian and everyone likes one of the the two gov cash handouts: military security or social benefits, he doesn't appeal to a huge region.
Oct 29th, 2012 - 01:42 am - Link - Report abuse 0He had my vote, now Obama does like he did last time :)
#40 so who are you voting for?
Oct 29th, 2012 - 10:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0I'll be voting for Gary Johnson, libertarian. How can anyone be against freedom? Many people will remark Libertarians as being crazy or radical, but what is so radical about NOT spending over $4 trillion, or NOT being the police of the world, or NOT imprisoning citizens without trial or any charge at all??? (both Romney and Obama support these things)
Oct 29th, 2012 - 12:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Libertarians, like Ron Paul, don't believe in abortion or maybe even gay marriage, but they accept that the Federal government has nothing to do with such a topic. The USA constitution is very specific on what the federal government can do and what the state governments can do, and essentially the states and the people have all of the rights. The Federal government isn't supposed to do healthcare, education, drug wars; these are decisions reserved for states and people.
No one can say that what is going on with the USA is the right path. Things aren't getting better. The whole system is just a joke. Third parties will never have a chance and the two parties are locked so tight no one can get in.
What happened???!!! People get detained and it is legal. That doesn't even happen in Paraguay. Elections are a gigantic fraud, even Paraguay has freer elections than the USA. I just don't get it and it saddens me because I was taught that freedom was a good thing, this I learned in the USA....
#43
Oct 29th, 2012 - 02:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That statement alone shows how little you conceptualize the US Constitution. The only real specificities in the constitution relates to elected officials and such. MY founding fathers where smart enough to make it vague enough to be interpretable for future generations. Article 1 spells out quite specifically and broadly enough to carry about what has been enacted. To make the statement and claim”:
“The Federal government isn't supposed to do healthcare, education, drug wars; these are decisions reserved for states and people.”
Fails to make it past the first sentence of Section 8 , Article 1;
“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;”
Perhaps you believe that the health and education and safety of Americans do not relate to the “General Welfare” of the United States……I can assure you that most natural born Americans think otherwise.
Unless you can point out in the Constitution where those actions are specifically prohibited, they are in fact actionable responsibilities of the United States government.
The 10th Amendment can play a role in what and state can do, provided it is not a federal role.
Powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

So...... Mitt Romney hasn't had a single original thought or policy of his own. So then, the question you should be asking is When will he pull that fence post out of his a*se?
if you do vote for Gary Johnson, libertarian. then you will be wasting your vote Gary Johnson is NEVER likely to get in the white house. It will be between Obama and romney. Any vote that is not for one of these two is a wasted vote.
The question you should be asking is not Which one do I like the most? but Which one do I dislike the least?”
Being on the outside looking in, I hope that Obama gets it. I hope that he gets voted in for another term. Right now, in this climate, the world needs a leader like Obama. Not just for America but for the World...... Maybe later, in future it will be strong enough to survive a Republican abministration FUBAR ing it's way through 4 - 5 years in the White House, but for now Obama is the man for the moment.
A wasted vote is the oldest argument in democracy, which implies that if the candidate you vote for does not have a chance to win, why vote for them? That's how two party systems remain two party systems.
Oct 29th, 2012 - 08:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That being said, libertarians are quite radical in there philosophy.....but it's there right to believe what they want. Only a matter of time that the Tea Baggers and the Libertarians consolidate.

Oct 29th, 2012 - 09:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Poppy - Clearly we interpret the constitution differently, which is fine. Look my point is simply that things don't look good for the USA, which means most of the world as well. The constitution in my opinion was flawed in many ways. Instead of stating the only things that government can do, specifically, it allowed a simple majority to decide how they wished to interpret the constitution. The addition of amendments requiring 2/3 seems perfectly good to allow the constitution to adapt with time. There are innumerable cases of the government violating the constitution, including both Bush and Obama. But it just doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 02:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0Since you still live in the USA, I know you see the changes that are happening. This uncontrolled spending and the end of our personal liberties has destroyed what I learned made the US so great. The USA isn't the land of opportunity anymore, it is being destroyed by the Gigantic Government. It is almost like Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged is being played out, line by line. Hate to say it, but the Welfare/Warfare will mark the end of a great nation.
BTW, I am an American Citizen, engineer from Purdue, and I left the country because I couldn't stand being an indentured servant to the government, paying nearly 50% of my labor in taxes.
#47 - My single vote won't change an election. You also have the awesome Electoral College that will insure your vote is pretty much pointless. By giving your vote, you are giving your confidence to that person; I have no confidence in either of those two deutsch bags. Plus do YOU really believe there is a difference between the two?? If so please name it (unless it is gay marriage and abortion).
First, they never intended the Supreme Court to be a system to interpret the Constitution. They were designed to be a Federal Court system. It was not until Marbury vs. Madison in 1803 that the Supreme Court defined itself as the ultimate interpretation of the law. ( Supremes Greatest Hits.....very good book) I think it is one of the most brillant concept to out system......and not held hostage to politics......despite how they are chosen, but for life.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 11:06 am - Link - Report abuse 0I do realize we spend too much, and it should be tied to inflation indicators, military should be spent more wisely, but welfare is such a small % of public expeditures, unless you consider social security and medicare welfare, they are shared expenses by employer and employee.
I am not sure where you feel that Bush and Dr. Evil violated the constitution?
BTW......when I don't like either candidates I do a write in. Despite what others may think regarded as a wasted vote, I do not believe my voice in democracy is always suppose to be enacted upon, just as long as I can voice it. And by the way.......when Romney was Governor of my state...Massachusetts.....he was personally against abortion, but believed it was not a governments position to decide and he had not problem with gay marriages, Massachusetts being the first state in the nation to allow them. Then again......he was performing to a smaller audience then.
#52 - Well both have signed into law legislature that destroys the 5th amendment. There are also the undeclared wars, Libya, Pakistan. The 8th and 6th amendments don't exist anymore since torture and detainment are now allowed, including on USA citizens, this under the NDAA.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 05:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0To have eliminated these amendments, a new amendment needs to be created not a simple law as was done. The 2/3 majority should always be respected, and when it isn't the constitution becomes less and less relevant.
As for the welfare, I do consider social security and medicare as welfare. Then there are food stamps, free cell phones, section 8 housing, free education, subsidies, cheap loans for college, etc. To me, these services only make the problem worse. College education is terribly expensive and there are too many college graduates because of the credit bubble on higher education. It has good intentions, but the results are detrimental to exactly the people that it is trying to help. Section 8 housing destroys neighborhoods because the value of those homes plummets, leaving home owners with a worthless mortgage. Free cell phones ends up encouraging the poor to spend money on more minutes and thus end up with less money than if they didn't have a phone. Free education has slowly made our government educational system inefficient and a great tool to indoctrinate our children (I being one). Free Healthcare only makes healthcare more expensive; someone has to pay, but if the user isn't it, then they don't take care of themselves as much and use the services more when it may not have been necessary. Social Security encourages people not to save for retirement. And then the debt of all of this only ends up being a tax (inflation) that affects the poor the most.
I understand you arfe not an American, but you do realize that the 5ft amendment does have an exception.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 06:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger
Assuming you are referring the the grand Jury
And I tend to believe that enemy combatants do not enjoy the privledge of the 6th and 8th amendments. Personally as a veteran, I would prefer field justice then even wasting time and money holding a military tribunal.
It's easy to understand how a foreigner thinks that congress has to declare a war against a nation and that is the only way the USA can legally deploy the military. Congress can also callon the Military to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
Most all Americans consider 9/11 an invasion and it is really irrelavent if foreign born people think otherwise.
As for social welfare I am somewhere between the Republicans and Democrats.....nothing as radical as you and the libertarians. The funny thing with opinions.....your's and mine alike, people with them always believe they are right and others are wrong. It immediate cease any of the programs you refer to would have dire consequences and would need 10 to 20 eyears to phase out. SSA is suppose to be a SUPPLEMENT...not a retirement. SSA is as American as the NFL, NBA and MLB

#54 - Look I am an American, studied most of my life there, worked there, and then I left because i couldn't stand being an indentured servant to the government anymore.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 07:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The 5th amendment does have the exception you mentioned, but it relates to situations where people are being charged with an infamous crime; such as felonies. The problem is that the indefinite detentions don't charge anyone with a crime, thus violating the 6th amendment. Just charge them with treason or something and use the exception to avoid violating the 5th.
And as for your preference to simply violate the constitution and provide for field justice, then there should simply not be a constitution, or at least not a bill of rights. Either respect the rules or don't make them; I'm okay with that because then I at least I know what to expect.
It just sucks to see people become detained for simply using their first amendment right. These are American Citizens, like you and me, that haven't done anything wrong other than say they don't like the government or call on some conspiracy theory. It is fine until the day it affects you Sir, or your son or grandchild. We simply can't give the government the power to do such things.
I am against the social programs, but I don't advocate ending them from one minute to the next. Allow Social Security to be privatized at the least; with each person having their own private accounts or just stay in the same current system. It worked in Chile, it can work there; took 20 years or more. Before 1935 there was no SSA, people managed fine.
I think people need to have some responsibility for their own lives and not rely so much on the government. We are adults, thus we are responsible for our own lives. Our choices dictate what happens in our lives and we must live with the benefits and consequences of such decisions.
The 5th amendment does have the exception you mentioned, but it relates to situations where people are being charged with an “infamous” crime; such as felonies.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 07:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ever serve? Probably not.....Most prefer not to serve their country. Field justice is more common that not from EVERY military world wide. Ever see Americans slowly have their head sawed off? You want civility for that? Not from me. You think Bush took down the Twin Towers? I don't........ I want justice that. You think the Muslim extremists is correct to consider everyone NOT Islamic an enemy that should die?
You feel the constittution was violated.....I do not.
Personally I an not totally convinced the bill of rights should be extended to non-citizens and I do think an illegal speading her legs out and dropping her bastard here in the USA should be deemed a natural born citizen by the shear fact of being born here. I think that's a violation of the COnstitution.
Capitain Poppy = Galloping PTSD
Oct 30th, 2012 - 08:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#57 - I have not served and do not wish to. The food that you ate while serving was produced by my family; each does what they can.
Oct 30th, 2012 - 09:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I made no mention of violation of these rights to non-citizens or against combatant enemies. I truly have no opinion in the case of war as each war must be treated differently. My issues only deal with USA citizens because those are specifically protected for in the constitution.
And for the illegal woman spreading her legs and dropping babies off in the USA, I would say she is illegal and should be deported as the law states. I don't exactly support such a law, but since it exists then enforce it.
Look Poppy, the lives of the soldiers in the military would be valued more if the government were a libertarian one. Today there are businesses that literally make money off these wars and so they would obviously want more wars and thus put the lives of soldiers in harms. Libertarians believe in a strong military, and use it only when necessary; such was the case of Afghanistan which even Ron Paul voted in favor of. But we believe in getting in there, kicking some ass, kill who we need to kill, and then get the f*ck out. It isn't our damn problem what happens afterwards and it'll serve as a nice lesson to anyone that wants to try and repeat such an attack.
We agree on some things and others we do not. However, another I want to see is a draft returned .
Oct 30th, 2012 - 10:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The draft has become obsolete for the USA. You see more and more technically educated and trained people are needed. Engineers for example are what we need more than a high school drop out foot soldier. And if things got bad, many would join if called upon to do so. Even illegal aliens would gladly fight for the USA.
Oct 31st, 2012 - 02:14 am - Link - Report abuse 0Everyone that never served always says that.....just like war is easy 6,000 miles away. This I can assure you.....when the missiles stop....the air campaign ends and the chaos is claimed to be over..........No one can declare victory until someone takes the flag from city hall (figuratively). Only the politician that never served his country will tell you technology can win wars. I strongly disagree with cowards that choose not to serve.

BAMF and what does the government do for hurricanes......say oh well....shit happens?
Oct 31st, 2012 - 06:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Same as they do when your troops kills 8 year old kids....
Oct 31st, 2012 - 07:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You see Poppy, you think too narrowly. Without my services the army would starve. Without other people's services, there would be no tanks, guns, rounds, etc. Each and everyone contributes in their own way. I can guarantee you that my services in agriculture will be much more valuable than as a foot soldier. I will help the cause of war much more by planting crops than fighting.
Nov 01st, 2012 - 05:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But yes foot soldiers are necessary, but not to the extent that they used to be. We don't need armies of millions like the USSR used to have, but the soldiers that are needed are fulfilled by simple voluntary enlistment; there is no more need for a draft.
Opinions.....I respect yours though.
Nov 02nd, 2012 - 01:31 am - Link - Report abuse 0#66 - The government uses money that it taxes from people. The problem is that the government is very inefficient. First the cost to comply with say the income tax is outrageous (some $600 billion/year). Then there is corruption. And finally the money is simply poorly utilized; the Marxist idea of digging holes and filling them back up to create jobs has even been implemented which is simply a sick joke.
Nov 03rd, 2012 - 06:58 am - Link - Report abuse 0So I say let the people handle it, or at least let it be handled at a more local level. The federal government isn't accountable to the money it collects and thus it is spent poorly. I mean over $4 trillion/year, you telling me that it is well spent?? I don't think so, and I highly doubt anyone thinks it is being properly spent. Hell the federal government is the one causing this depression. Either the american population wakes up to this fact or they'll face stagnation like we are seeing for a long long time.
I am not saying that government is efficient” or that it can't be better. However I have my own thoughts on what a Federalist government should and should not be. First and foremost is the general well being of it's citizen's.
