British Petroleum has been temporarily suspended from new contracts with the US government, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has said. While it is unclear how long the ban will last, it follows BP's record fine earlier this month over the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Read full article

    I always wonder about these articles BP hasn't be referred to as British Petroleum for over 10 years now but some writers still refer to it as that.

    In answer to your question Anbar, a news report on TV said BP is 57% owned by Americans and then a split of other countries.

    @2 Xect

    Agreed. BP hasn't been called British Petroleum since the 1990's.

    When the spill happened Barack Obama specifically kept mentioning the so-called British connection despite the fact that the majority shareholders are US.

    In fact the company that made the part that failed was 100% US owned Halliburton. How much have they been fined? Are they being restricted?

    There is no doubt that BP was responsible, but they weren't the only ones responsible, and therefore shouldn't be the only ones punished.

    I agree Leprecon.

    I find it interesting since this appear to be a brazen political move.

    However for those that actually have the facts, they'd know they are banning a predominately American company from American waters.

    Also this was caused not only by an American company but also by a complete lack of American regulation of the industry.

    I don't personally care if they are banned, makes no real difference to the British.

    I don't care if their British or not, its pretty hard to fault them being banned after what happened. No fan of Halliburton either of course...

    I really love how the some nationalist “Britanicus” now don’t want to be linked with BP when things go wrong.

    So BP owned 50% by the American in a big mess is not British at all.

    But BAE owned by Americans, Canadians, Italian, etc is more British than the Queen.

    How nationalist Britanicus right wing mind works?

    Any rational explanation?

    May be is a KaMoron propaganda effect?

    @Captain Poppy

    I'm from Bolivia with African Ancestors and the product of rape of my mother by a drunk Mapuche while the husband of my mother from Africa was distracted trying to sell my brother for being so ugly.
    In the end he sold my little brother to a couple of travestis from US who gave to my little brother the name of “Roberto Tijuana” (The ugly).
    Since then my little brother change his name to “Captain Poppy”.
    Of course I was the lucky one of the family...

    Why do you have any problem with that?

    I didn't ask for your history, everyone has a sad story in their history. and I really care little of anyone else's sad stories. I asked where you are from. You certainly have a unhealthy dose of anger from being indian. “Bolivia” would have been perfect.
