But when you have out of control yobs and deliquescent thugs like argentina and Spain hanging abt, just waiting to pounce,
Words will have to be backed up,
Gibraltar has a new police boat, but as some as said, its not the job of the police to shoo of Spanish incursions, that is a job for the Royal Navy,
If you are seen to be weak, then you will be abused,
While the British government stays quiet and using her silence to embarrass CFK, it don’t stop trouble emanating from them, does it,
The day is dawning when the British will have to back this up with a little might,,
Before we get caught with our pants down again,
At the very least you could stop over HMS Illustrious with her apache gun ships in Gibraltar as a show of force, but you wont, as at this very moment British paratroopers are in Spain training them to parachute with us , don’t want to upset the apple cart do we,
So please,
Less talk talk, and bit more vigour,
Your beginning to sound like CFK .lol.
.just an opinion.mmmm

Dec 04th, 2012 - 08:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There again is that Talk softly but carry a big stick
The Royal navy needs to be 4 times as big. The two new Aircraft carriers are great, really great..... But we need 4!!
If the T45's are such a wonderful thing then why, oh why do we not have 24 of them?
If the type 23's are The most capable submarine hunters in the world then why do we only have 13 of them?
The American's say that a country that has a strong navy can take a much of a war as it wants, it can threaten without beuing seen to threaten and then, once it's made itself felt, disappear over the horizon and is once again, out of sight, out of mind.
Now would be a good time to biuld some more Big Sticks wouldn't you say?
agreed,
Dec 04th, 2012 - 08:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0as mr camaron scrapped so many ships , subs , troops , planes,
we are seen as weak,
we both know we can obliterate them both together at the same time,
but to use a stick once in a while, may save many lives later.

BAE Systems are concentrating on advanced weaponry, you don't need a vast armada of ships if your weaponry is infinitely more advanced than your opponent. For example One T45 destroyer in the south Atlantic and not one South American country would dream of taking it on.

Dec 04th, 2012 - 10:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0However we already spend over 70bn a year on defense which makes us the 3rd largest military spending nation in the world. I think it would be unreasonable for us to spend more in this economic climate, lets spend more developing our economy further and then when the world markets recover maybe rethink how much we spend?
Xect.
@17 The issue is that a ridiculous amount of our defense budget is spent on sourcing and acquisitions. Additionally, things that are eventually sourced are rarely delivered to schedule, impacting on their cost and ability to add value.
Dec 04th, 2012 - 11:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0A few billion saved here would be able to buy a few more boats, I dare say.
I'm ex-military and I can say that is pretty normal across other nations armed services too but yes I completely agree with you.
Dec 04th, 2012 - 11:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The problem historically is when military officers trained for warfare are used in procurement projects/project deliverable, very smart folk but with the wrong skillsets and when that is combined with extremely high tech machinery it often leads to lots of mistakes or contractors taking the military for a ride.
I always remember when I was in the RN, we purchased walkie-talkie type radios for general use on part-of-ship work i.e. coming alongside and I found out the military was paying almost double what they were selling for in a shop 5oo yards from the dockyard entrance.
Still when it all comes together and we have Type 23's/45's, Astute class submarines and similar it was all worth it.
We were so much better than everyone else it was ridiculous. It got to the point when a unit I served aboard was asked to sit out of NATO exercises as we were ruining it for all of the other navies constantly killing or intercepting the target.
“This year, we have demonstrated our commitment to preserving the astounding natural environment in the territories, by establishing a new Marine Protected Area in South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands and launching Darwin Plus, the new Overseas Territories Environment and Climate Fund.”
Dec 05th, 2012 - 02:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0Since when the English are the owners of these islands?
PIRATES, THIEVES OF SHIT.
Some arguments Argentines sovereignty of South Georgia (San Pedro) South (among others):
- Law of the discovery by Leon Spanish ship in 1756.
- Recognition by the world's major countries of Spain's membership of the islands adjacent to the mainland (as owner of the continent).
- Recognition of other maritime states (England) by signing the Treaty of San Lorenzo (Nootka Sound) in 1790 (violated by this country in 1765, 1806, 1807, the English are characterized by respect all that sign) that prevented him from taking any island in the Spanish part of South America.
- Succession Rights of Spain, and human first permanent settlement in 1904, by Argentina.
- Doctrine of the Continental Shelf of the United Nations Conference on Law of the Sea, and extension of the continental shelf of coastal states.
- Whenever the Malvinas issue was treated as a unit with the Georgias and sandwiches.
- Unanimous recognition of the countries of the region (OAS)
UK arguments for the sovereignty of South Georgia (San Pedro) South:
- Geographic proximity?
- The Strength?
SOUTH GEORGIA and SANDWICHSISLANDS ARE ARGENTINE
@20 jm
Dec 05th, 2012 - 05:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0SOUTH GEORGIA and SANDWICHSISLANDS ARE ARGENTINE
Nope, sorry. They are definitely British.
Jose - your arguments are flawd.
Dec 05th, 2012 - 05:33 am - Link - Report abuse 01. Spain did not discover either South Georgia or the South Sandwich islands.
2. These two islands are in what would have been the Portuguese area of influence under the Papal Bull and the Treaty of Tordesillas
3. Nootka Sound did not last past 1795. Wars can do that to Peace Treaties.
4. Uti possidetis juris is not recognised as legally binding, and any succession was limited to the Viceroyalty (not that there was any - in inheritance cases it is usually necessary for the benefactor to actually die). Neither the Falklands, nor South Georgia/South Sandwich islabds were part of the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata which extended only to the 41st degree south parallel.
5. Argentina is indeed on the Falklands continental shelf and you should hand over your country immediately.
6. South Georgia/SSI's were never a part of the Falklands and were only dealt with by that Governor for Administrative purposes. A Dependency does not mean that they a part of!
7. Who gives a rat's arse what the OAS thinks.
They're British lad. Not even listed at the C24. Get used to it :-)
@20 lord ton has summed it up, argentina has an incredibly flimsy claim over the falklands but the fact there are 8 generations of falklanders living there over rules that. (ignoring the fact that britain has a very strong claim too)
Dec 05th, 2012 - 06:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0As for the other islands. Argentina has no claim to them at all.

Lies will not get you the Falkland's Island's Jose, the sooner you learn that the easier your life will be.
'Since when the English are the “owners” of these islands?' - Since 1765 dummy and that remains today albeit with a different structure.
Actually there is one true owner of the Falkland Island's and it's not the British, English or Argentinians but the peaceful people of the Falkland Island's!
I've got 53 votes :-). Only 99947 to go to getting this properly debated in Parliment and 9947 from getting a comment from the government on the issue.

Sorry Jose Malvinista, you got carried away there and tried bringing facts into the issue, which we all know does not favour your Malvinista cause as the facts are stacked against your ''claim''.
That's why your lot cry that the ICJ is corrupt. Actually it isn't, it just wont allow itself to be corrupted.
So you are stuck with only one way to get your theiving hands on the Falklands, and that is to invade. I seem to remember it didn't go too well for Argentina last time so good luck with that. ;)

May I take this opportunity to wish you a merry default day (December 15th)

Question: How on earth do you expect any Argentine politician to speak the truth on the Falklands?
@ 35 Brit Bob
Dec 05th, 2012 - 12:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Answer: They can't speak the truth. For starters they cannot even get the name of the islands right. They keep banging on about a mythical place called Las Malvinas. I think they are next to Narnia.

Dec 05th, 2012 - 01:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@5 Also agreed. But the Type 23s are to be replaced by the Type 26. However, instead of scrapping them, send them to the Falklands and Gibraltar.
@7 Sorry? It isn't possible to colonise territories for which we are already responsible. And where there is NO valid alternative claim.
@17 Nope. Our enemies won't wait for economic recovery. we need to be able to CRUSH our enemies EVERY DAY.
@20 1775. Love the rest of your comment. All bullshit of course. If you want a legal basis, try uti possidetis. When was the last conflict? 1982? Who was left in possession? The UK. Argieland is FINISHED. Possibly the most corrupt, cowardly, corrupt, criminal, depraved, dishonest, genocidal, mendacious, pernicious, racist, thieving, xenophobic countries in the world. And, strangely, the OAS, for what it's worth, is not unanimous. But you're welcome to have another go, THIEF. We now have the plans and capabilities to DESTROY around 60,000 invading troops AND their home location. Then we can reload. But let's be sensible. We really appreciate your wish to provide our forces with targets, military and civilian, and to reduce your population by 75%. It saves us the cost of all that practice ammunition. Are you in argieland? Would you like to say Goodbye now? In case you don't exist before too long. You will NOT be getting the FI, SG, SSI or BAT or any part thereof. We WILL ensure that YOU cease to exist first. (Argentines, i.e. those with brains, are urged to leave as soon as possible. argies can remain. Only right that argies go the way of their predecessors, the indigenous amerindians.)

Dec 05th, 2012 - 03:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I've spotted a nice comment from an RG poster called 'Geze' on another forum, regarding the cruise ship Seabourn Sojourn ...
As usual making decisions and wielding the law gaucho levee at the wrong moment. In Ushuaia, last season and at the height of cruise tourism, a group of veterans think of anything unless Ribero Gaucho apply to a British flag cruise but with over 2,000 tourists on board of which 700 were Chinese, 300 were Japanese and the rest divided between families and retirees French, German, Italian, Swiss, and a couple of British marriages ... Conclusion: We lost many tourist activities to the point that it had to close in advance because the tourist season and not tied to any flag vessels with tourists and went to the Chilean port of Punta Arenas ... O is for assholes to apply the law to cruise ships G.Ribero ruin tourism in the province

This is as opposed to the String lots of random words from a thesaurus and claim intelligence superiority mode or Pretend to be British and support CFK even with a fake life-story or the ?random platitude {British Kirchnerist aka Panda-poster mode (East, shoots and leaves).
I think these sock-puppetry modes should be shortened to:
1) Internet-Proof! (It must be true!) -mode
2) Baffle with Bullshit!-mode
3) Honest I'm British Guv!”-mode
4) Panda-mode.
It should be pretty easy to assign almost all of the sock-puppets into those 4 modes. :-)
