Not all will stop coming. Just need another new advertising campaign to attract the real operators who are not afraid of Argentina. That the Argentine government looses yet another defiant act. Quite a laugh really to see the Argie leaders resorting to these measures because they simply do not know a way that will strangle our economy. Just remember the oil that is soon to be pumped is going to be worth hundreds if not millions more than any loss of a scared tour operator.

I'm also very happy that I won't need to listen to sanctimonious prats like you bleat on about that piece of glass around that plastic dolly at Darwin, ever again.
All I can hear is the sound of a country shooting itself in the foot repeatedly, and I can see that carrying on for some time. That doesn't give me any pleasure, but I am quite fascinated to see just where you go with this. There is no gain for you in this course of action at all. It annoys us a little bit, but it also makes you a lot of enemies all over the world. These cruise ship passengers all have families and friends and businesses, and you appear not to care what anyone thinks of you. In fact, we couldn't buy this kind of positive publicity. We don't have to expend any effort to make you look like arseholes, because you do it all by yourselves.
My best guess is that this isn't about the Falklands at all. In which case I feel sorry for you, because when anarchy and lawlessness seem like the best option for a government, it's staring into the abyss.
So no, not whinging at all.

It is irrelevent that Argentina says it has not orchestrated such a campaign, the fact is it has done nothing to prevent or punish it and has legislation which frankly, provokes it.
At the very least, the UK, should take action on the behalf of the Falkland Islands, they shoulld take it to The Tribuanal for the Law of the Sea, or what ever it's called. Argentina moved pretty damn quick over the Ghana issue, the UK should do the same.

They long ago ran out of being able to justify any of their attitudes or justifications of rights to the Falklands. Any time they do, they get tied in knots as their basis for ownership is hugely flawed, and they know it.
That's why they are reduced to spouting gibberish on the forums.
Their only means of gaining control of the Falkland Islands is mount another invasion, which considering the state of their armed forces and impounded equipment these days, would amount to having to take a charter flight, or rowing a dinghy over the sea. They could block book a cruise ship, but I suspect that they dont have enough Pesos in the kitty to pay for it.
With Mount Pleasant having a few more troops available than Naval Party 8901 had in '82, I suspect the invasion would last as long as it took to eat a Polo mint.

Multiply that by 200 (100 years the Falklands are likely to remain a UK territory). Argentina can state this is to offset “loss of resources” from the “Malvinas” (which I wouldn't agree with) or “administrative” costs, in having to check ship from the Faklands for any strange/threateting British activity (something every nation in the world would fully understand the suspicion).
That equals 1-1.5 billion. Have British companis auto-expropriate and we call it a deal. That way the people of the Falklands are not hurt.
If the UK rejects, then Argentina can say the UK gov is siding with a few rich fat cats while not caring about the pocketbooks of 3000 innocent islanders.

Actually the weather here has been sunny and cold - our days are actually 24 hours long - I presume it is the same where you live. DAYLIGHT is about 7 hours long coming up to the winter solstice but we have the advantage of 17 hours of daylight in mid summer. I do not notice any difference to the Christmas shopping
from previous years - the same money seems to be being spent.

Sailing 8,000 miles to counter attack well prepared enemy positions, with air and naval cover, at the odds of 1:3 (Current miltary tactics all say that an assaulting force should have a ratio of 3:1) andcomprensively defeating the enemy. Now that is something impressive in the annals of military history.
While we are at it, it should be remembered who threw the first stone!

I think that if you read the history of Britain in India you will discover that the pacifist Hindus were anything but. They also had firearms and cannons - not bronze age weapons.
The Indians had distinct warrior classes -Rajputs and Sikhs.
Again, they had weaponry equivalent to that of the British forces and greater numbers of men. Fighting them was no easy task.

But as has been pointed out, the events of 1982 was quite some going. You even had a navy which, although old, was still quite quite capable of stopping the landings at San Carlos before the ships even entered the MEZ. However, your Navy took one hit and ran home to port.
You outnumbered us in troops and aircraft. You had 3 weeks to dig in. You could even carry on bringing in fresh troops and supplies via C130.
I'd say that 1982 was a very good example of fighting against a FAR larger force.

And all argie wars have been against larger opposition (the civilian militia of BUenos Aires against the British army batallions, revolutionaries against the Spanish Army, Argentina vs Brazil in the cisplatine war, Argentina vs Paraguay [a larger country then and one that had prepared for war], Argentina vs UK...)
Every country we have waged war against has been larger than us.
And then you have the Crossing of the Andes... over a 3500 meter pass, with horses, cannons, soldiers, equipment, etc... to sneak attack the Spanish in Chile.
That is recognized as one of the greatest military feats of endurance and logistics of all time.

The Spanish had a great superiority in numbers and equipment, yet the British still managed to capture BA and hold it for a month and a half. I wouldn’t shout about that one if I were you.
Then there is the war of the triple Alliance, how do you figure Argentina on its own to be smaller than the mighty Paraguay, never mind when combined with Brazil and Uruguay. Missed that one out completely.
Not to forget the “conquest of the desert”, when Argentinian forces fresh from slaughtering Paraguyans, overran Patagonia, despite the Patagonian Indians having overwhelming superiority in men, firepower and technology. Clearly your finest hour.

Another couple for consideration are D-Day - the logistics for this were staggering and the war could have been lost if it failed.
The Chindits in Burma must have ranked as the toughest test of manpower.
Parachuted into one of the worst malarial jungles in the world, relying on air drops for supplies and fighting the Japanese with no hope of evacuation if injured. Rather them than me !
Is this guy for real? I must look up the famed military feats of Argentina. I guess I will have to look pretty dammed hard because nobody else seems to have deduced any such feat of note. (UK) 28 Sea Harriers and 8 Harrier Gr3, with 5 Black Buck bombing missions comprising of 1 Vulcan per mission.
(Arg) 74 A-4 Skyhawk, 24 Dagger, 18 MirageIIIE, 5 Super Etendards, 6 Canberra and 114 Pucara, Aermacchi MB339A and T-34C Mentor.
I'm not including the 25 de mayo and her compliment of A4 Skyhawk in this list, nor the helicopter count of the UK forces which comprised mainly of supply/SAR/ASW helos. Very few were equipped for air to air/air to ground combat.
Shall we deconstruct further? I'm sure we will find more examples of numerically superior forces for the Argentine military as we go through each of the forces?

According with Arg. documentaries The Junta was already falling and was close to be kicked out before the FW started. Galtieri as a last attempt to gain some time invaded the islands without much planning.
As you can see the Argentine militaries were more afraid of the Argies at home than to start a war with OTAN.
From my point of view Argentine militaries help more Britain Army and the Islanders than any govt. from UK.
1-After the war the islanders gain more freedom and political status together with economic gain and British citizenship.
2-The UK military power was close to be downsized to half by Margaret Thatcher before the war so was in part saved by the Argie Junta.
3-According with your own words FI is part of UK so technically Argentina invaded Britain and got away with it. Because you little cowards didn’t have the guts to declare war to Argentina because you knew that you will be destroyed as your own record shows loosing 4 times in invasions attempts in Argies coasts.
4- To put in perspective how bad was the FI war for British Military a little statistic would help a lot.
The bad and no trained Arg civilian soldiers killed in 74 days more than 268 British soldiers (recognised by UK because seems to be more, according with uk owns military source) an average of 3.5 soldier per day.
While in Afghanistan after 11 years war were killed jut 438 British soldiers (according with BBC) what provides an average of 0,17 soldier per day.
So a 11 years conflict with Argentina at that rate will give a figure of 14.052,5 Mohammeds that will not see the sun again. And a in a conflict on mainland you will have to multiply that figure by 5 to be conservative because even grannies of 80 years old will shoot you from their balconies. Ha ha

Yes,I could see from the newsreels at the time that everyone hated the military regime. People were shouting“ down with the Junta.”
3 We did not take it as a declaration of war, just a jumped up load of Hispanics trying it on.

If it had been really serious, we could have reduced your country

Your “soldiers” did not kill 268 British soldiers, your air force accounted for most of our casualties.
Your “soldiers” were in most cases in fortified bunker positions.
Our “cowardly” troops had to come out in the open and attack which requires more guts than hiding. Your casualties could have been much more if our troops had been ordered not to fire on your people as they were scarpering back to Stanley after losing every battle in the mountains.
As to your 200 year old triumph in defeating British forces in a minor incident that would not be indicative of the current situation.
We have no desire or reason to “attack” your country by landing any forces on it. We could not do it.

Or perhaps , and shoot me down on this one..every conflict is different. a seaborn invasion against a well defended numerically superior force would expect reasonable high casualties, whereas a long drawn out counter insurgency say for instance in Afghanistan would by the nature of the conflict produce a much lower toll per day of casualties.

As Santa Fe and Clyde15 have already alluded to, every military engagement is different, and has to be approached differently.
The Falklands War taught the WHOLE worlds militaries one important lesson. That is to have complete air superiority over your enemy, a lesson that was learned the hard way by the Royal Navy.
Which is why in recent conflicts the air defences are the 1st targets to be hit.
If the situation ever happened again, and Argentina somehow invaded the Falklands, the 1st thing the UK would do is bomb the sh!t out of your airforce and navy bases on the MAINLAND of Argentina. We would take out your anti-aircraft defences etc...
Then we would waltz into the Falklands and kick your sorry arses back to Argentina.
As for the 'declaring' war on Britain by invading the Falklands. Yes you did. But the mission for the UK was to remove the murderous Argentine invaders from our turf. The mission was successful.
Just what would've been gained by the UK invading Argentina? Nothing. Quite frankly you Argentinians seem to constantly get what you deserve, one corrupt government after another.
I will agree that the Falklands Invasion did change the mind of the Government about downsizing the RN, but winning the Falklands War showed the world that the UK was still a force to be reckoned with, and still is today.
We are one of the few countries in the world that can 'project' our military power beyond our own borders, when the need arises.
Argentina's attempt at projecting power beyond Argentina appears to have been impounded for non-payment of debts, or have broken down awaiting parts: which won't be supplied until your government pays for them upfront.
How embarrassing for the people of Argentina, and your military, to have such incompetent people running your country.

Let us start with The Battle of Britain.
Although it was an error to change to bombing civilian instead of military targets, the Luftwaffe were not hitting as many airfields as they thought.
Lots of aircraft were never kept at the airfield, instead laying up several miles away. eg RAF North Weald had a second airfield, discreetly hidden, near what is now a town( formerly a village in 1940) called Harlow. So bombing the airfields was not putting as many out of action as Goerring was led to believe. Many temporary ''airfields'' were set up as well to use as a distraction and divert Luftwaffe bombers to bomb empty fields.
Production of aircraft was more than keeping pace with losses.
The end result, even if they had stuck to bombing RAF airfields, would have been EXACTLY the same.
Had the High command realised what all those funny looking towers were, and how effective Radar was, they would have blown all them to bits instead, because it was radar that stopped us having to have as many planes to be effective. We simply didn't need to mount CAP patrols, thereby reducing the amount of aircraft needed, and giving more time to service and re arm them.
On a further point, the United States did not lend us anything, we paid for them, albeit on a long term deal which we finished paying rather recently.

Whether the Spaniards could have disembarked their troops is a matter of conjecture.

You misrepresent at every opportunity.
A Walt is someone that tells everyone they were in the Armed Forces, when they weren't, and try to make people believe that they are something that they are not in the hope of gaining some respect.
An example ofthis is Doveoverdover who erroneously claims to be ex-Royal Navy, and now he's telling everyone he's worked in the diplomatic corps too.
That is a Walt.
However, you don't have to be a military person to understand military tactics, but if you are military it gives you a unique understanding of what is or is not possible.
For instance, DanyBerger, thinks that the way to win a war is to throw large numbers of troops at the enemy. This type of tactic was tried in WW1 with tragic results for all parties. He also has no understanding of the logistics involved in supplying an army, and keeping it supplied until the objective is complete.
For instance, in the Falklands War, the British supply line was 8,000 miles. Because of this distance, every military expert in the world said that the British mission would fail. There was no way they could keep the troops supplied.
Argentina's supply line was only 400 miles long.
Yet it was the Argentine troops that were the ones who were not supplied, even though there were huge amounts of stores on the Falkland Islands at the time.
Because of that morale and fighting efficiency suffered, and the Argentine troops couldn't hold out against the British onslaught.
Now the British troops were resupplied, and despite having to walk across the Islands, fighting every step of the way their morale and fighting efficiency didn't wane, and they achieved their objective.
Perhaps you should try reading more, broaden your mind, and try putting forwards reasoned arguments instead of insulting people.
You may even gain a little respect from people if you did that.

The forces in Afghanistan are trying to get out and leave the country in a state of democracy. You seem to have a special insight into the political ramifications of the ”popular”Taliban taking the country back into the middle ages. Yes, the Afghans want the forces out but they do not want the Taliban back.
This has nothing to do with a non-confrontation with a NATO ally.
Spain is raising the Gibraltar issue BECAUSE of internal matters with Catalonia, where their is a strong movement for independence
Our military will strengthen with the return of our forces from Afghanistan. More troops to garrison our overseas territories such as the Falklands and adjacent islands.

Here's an update.
Dec 09th, 2012 - 10:17 am - Link - Report abuse 0On 30th November the Seabourn Sojurn (a British registered cruise liner) was ORDERED not to enter Falklands territorial waters by the Argentine coastguard.
The ships' captain ignored them and proceeded to Stanley. This represents an escalation of Argentine hostility towards the UK and the Falklanders.
Apparently the FO is complaining about this incident. I hope that next time they try this the RN guardship or RAF QRA flight are despatched to remind the Argentine vessel reponsible for such an order that they can't stop vessels going wherever they choose on an arbitary basis.
“Think” loves to try to play the moral high ground, but on this issue Argentina has none. It is clearly the agressor, as it was in 1982.
Like the rest of the Malvinistas he hates the fact that they lost in 1982 and were prevented from forcibly evicting the Falklanders from their homes at gunpoint (which was the whole point of the invasion when it comes down to it).
Argentina was able to defeat us, but snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by poor choices in strategy, tactics and timing.
He loves to try and dredge up the darker moments of UK history - fine lets go there again shall we “think”......
Don't forget Argentina has it's own share of skeletons in the cupboard....

I think it's great in reality and will be of long term benefit to Montevideo as well as the Falklands.
New rumours that P & O has pulled out of all its Argentine calls this season. Taking actions without thinking through the consequences can be very dangerous. Falklands - diversified economy, tourism about 15%. Ushuaia - one horse town, 95% tourism based. Is that a horses arse I see disappearing over the horizon ?

About us Argentine? When do we get a piece? I heard in UK British moved into the Libyan consulate, do you think Argentines should occupy the British embassy? Or is that also only a right reserved for solely the british ?
