ah another chance to spout off about the Falklands, wonder if Ghana and rgenweener's representative will say to each other.
Ministers of Defence from several of the member countries are also expected to attend the meeting in Montevideo. So the perfect opportunity for them to pay lip service to the tinman and flick him the bird when he turns round

“Foot, shoot, own, your” - rearrange if you are the Argentine Government.

I suppose they could talk at this meeting about all the other countries are benefiting from the loss of tourists to Argentina. ;-)

We wait with baited breath for the reports from Vietnam and the rest of the places CFK is visiting (in her British hired jet) for the rhetoric and bullshit about the Falklands and then wait for everybody to shoot her down in shite and the sound of laughter and “who was that idiot”

The UK did not support the establishment of this ineffective grouping 30 years ago. Also Norway, which also has an island in the region, does not attend.

It would be hard for the Falklands to attend something called the “South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone” when one if the existing members has already invaded it and keeps threatening it.

Expect lofty pronouncement that mean little and will be ignored even by those pronouncing.

Really? Please enlighten me on which country in this region was the last one that invaded the internationally recognised sovereign territory of another country?

Remember when answering this question, that the UN recognises that the UK has sovereignty over the Falkland Islands as shown by the islands inclusion on the Decolonisation list.

So tell me, which country invaded the UN recognised sovereign territory of another country?

Which country is a menace? Which country forces the UK to station so many troops in the region?

If the UK doesn't have sovereignty, then who does?

The Falkland Islands? If that was the case then they wouldn't need to be decolonised.

'Never ever ever trust an Argentine', Confucious

We basically don't trust you. You have a peronist (hitlerist) government that condones expansionism at any cost; your ruling elite are corrupt beyond words, running a terrorist organisation and a gang of early-release criminal thugs; and your nationalist government, having lied to everyone about its economic situation is about to bankrupt itself once again, calling all their bond-holders criminals.

It is a given that Argentinians hate democracy, self-determination, economic prosperity and political stability more than anything in the world. The South Atlantic Islands have little to do with South America, other than Chile and Uruguay. No one wants some South American verminous nation invading the Falklands during a referendum about their future. Given the recent rhetoric from the Argentine Fuhrer, them doing something stupid is a risk.

As a newcomer you evidently have not followed the debate which has been going on for many months on these blogs and attitudes have hardened in view of your governments continual pin pricking against the rights of the Flakland Islanders and thier right o decide thier own future, paticularly by some of your compatriots who are Camporistas and also by your President and Foriegn Minister. I dont say there are not nutcases on the otherside of the debate also. There are a number of intelligent Argentines who post regularly on these threads. Hello, and welcome. Hopefully we can have some friendly and useful dialog, but for reasons already mentioned, any new poster is not likely to be trusted.

We do realise there are a few, independently thinking, English- fluent, Argentines that visit this site. Hopefully, you are one of them. Regardless of your beliefs, welcome.
However, there are several posters, at least, several personas, who post on here only to promote the political agenda of CFK. They are relentlessly anti-British, and Anti-Falklands. They appear to have the same message, suggesting they are paid agents of your government. They deliberately cause harm, not only to us, but the ordinary citizens of Argentina as well.
They are NOT welcome, and in my opinion, fully deserve any criticism or dislike they receive, as they are fully aware of what they are doing, at the expense of others.

Said that, do not get confused; I'm Argentinian regarding the islands but I like the idea to get in touch with some islanders and/or British in friendly discussions, if that is possible

@54 “ I'm Argentinian regarding the islands” = Believe in a nonsense revisionist history laid out in 1930s by a hitlerist expansionist government, and want the islanders eviscerated in order to fulfill your entrenched german genetics.

If you're 40, then you would have been 10 years old when your Mütter und Väter took you into the streets to clap and cheer when your country started the War of Aggression, in celebration of Argentina militarising the South Atlantic, no?

Ok ae. At your age you have been indoctrinated from an early age over what you call the Malvinas.
A large majority of Argentines cannot trace thier residence in Argentina back from more than four generations. Some of the islanders trace back thier families on the Falklands for nine generations yet your government treats them as implanted colonist squatters and as such will not talk to them about mutual interests in fisheries and oil development. A great way to make friends and influence people. The Falklanders like things the way they are. UK would give them thier independence if they wished it. They do have an elected legislature you know. If they wanted to request the withdrawal of British military forces from thier islands I am sure the Brits would oblidge. But they dont want that while they are under threat from Argentina

“Said that, do not get confused; I'm Argentinian regarding the islands but I like the idea to get in touch with some islanders and/or British in friendly discussions, if that is possible”

I'm sure that is possible. There are several on here, and I should let them answer you, not me.

We know what you have been taught all your life, starting at a young age.
However, it was politically motivated mis-information.

If you monitor this site long enough, you will be able to read the real history of the islands.
Many families on the Falklands go back 9 generations to the original inhabitants, Vernet's group and others from before 1833.

That was before Spain withdrew their claim, (so Argentina had no claim) and before there was an Argentina in 1853 ( so Argentina has no claim), and before Argentina conquered the Amerindians of Patagonia, ( so Argentina that existed, BA, was still over 1,000 miles away - nowhere near the islands ), and Chile was much closer to the Falklands.

Try reading a history of the Falkland Islands by Roger Lorton:

    http://www.falklandia.com/Timeline/Introduction.htm

This book gives a history based on academic research by professional historians, based on verified documents and treaties of the various governments involved, as well as written accounts of inhabitants and mariners of several nationalities, of the 1700's and 1800's.

Roger Lorton occasionally posts on this site as “Lord Ton”.

Please take the time to discover this new perspective (for you).

It is rare that an Argentinean is willing to openly debate and discuss issues on here. So many revert to jingoism and nationalistic slogans. Or even outright lies to support their viewpoint.

However I think you may have already decided to quit while you are ahead. You state that you are “Argentinian regarding the islands” but are not willing to discuss why you are or if you have all the information.

As a first generation immigrant you would understand how strong your attachment and identity is to Argentina, while still retaining a residual love and identity of your mother country. Now try to understand that that is exactly what the Islanders feel. And some of them are ninth generation and feel no attachment to anywhere else.

“The foundations on my believes I don't think can bring any productive thing here, so I will prefer move on”

If that means you feel you can't support your beliefs or have them challenged then perhaps that is best. But just remember what if someone told you that you were not Argentinean and should go back to your mother country, how would that make you feel? Would you agree or would you disagree and tell them that you are in your own country?

Put yourself in the shoes of a Falkland Islander and then repeat that you're “Argentinean regrading the islands”.

@57 as a first generation ex-italian you will be used to the acceptance of corruption within society, and quite likely to want to be a part of the core culture that is being 'a non-brown Argentine'. This means you are likely to accept the propaganda you were presented with in school with much exuberance to prevent yourself from being rejected or referred to as an outsider. This would relegate you to a position of italian-hyphen-argentine, leaving you clinging to your parents culture like a parasite, without the necessary geographic connection.

For these reasons you're likely to adhere to the social norms of calling the islands by their papist faux-name of 'Malvinas', and for these reasons you're likely to support another attempt at conquering them, regardless of the historical revisionism.

    It's textbook... page 1. book 1.

@61 he said he's argentine, and so I was just explicitly stating how he 'as an individual' thought. I wasn't stereotyping south americans.

@62 They're in the south atlantic, argentina is neither peaceful not cooperative, get over it. More importantly they're not Argentines, and this makes your germanic SS genes mad.

jeez, so much hate here, I don't know how can you judge a person that way in such short notice. Anyway, I did not come here to change your or my ideas. I was only hoping to get a chance to discuss a current headline in a friendly manner. As an Argentine, I often find difficult to understand things posted on the telegraph or the sun and maybe (silly me) you could have the same problem with our newspapers but unfortunately I dont think this is possible here . pity

@64 why do you think you are so full of hate? You should be all nice like everyone else.

Maybe you're full of hate because your president lies to you.

This book gives a history based on academic research by professional historians, based on verified documents and treaties of the various governments involved, as well as written accounts of inhabitants and mariners of several nationalities, of the 1700's and 1800's.”

BTW lorton,is a totally biased, untrue history. It is like salt&pepper....No serious academics work will refer to these clowns....Dr Cohen, expert in international law at Geneva University, posted here several times, only to be discredit by brits trolls in a very rough, stupid manner....So if you want any serious discussion,I am sorry,do not pull those 2 trolls...

    [Hate]
Malverino or pirate hunter perhaps, both anties,
But you reply [im Argentinean as far as the Falklands go]
    What does this mean then?
    Can we interpret this as?
[Im argentine so the islands are argentina]
    So can we say?
We are British as far as Patagonia go,
So being British, then Patagonia must be British,
You say you try to understand British newspapers, thus suggesting you have aces to the net as well,
And thus should be well aware and well bygone CFK brainwashing to understand some basic things on these islands,
1, Argentina has never ruled them
2, they have never been argentine,
3, they were British sovereign , before argentine existed
4, the islanders freely wish to remain British,
5, you argentine reply would also be most interesting,
As far as being British goes, they are British, ..
And as such are a very friendly bunch of people,, just like us ..
    .

    Good try, Malvi,

ae337 should read Roger's book and make up his own mind. He has already done all of the reading penned by Argentinians, whitewashing the genocides and atrocities of your 'War of The Desert',( not really a war) against Indians and unarmed civilians, and other military land-grabs.
The Argentine version of the settling of the Falklands is just as biased.

Ae337 can check Roger's sources himself, compare notes with other historians and other timelines of events, that might lead to other reading, and allow him to draw his own conclusions.

No other historians or academics seem to be dismissing Roger's timeline as 'biased', and ae337 can see for himself what Dr Cohen may be commenting on, from a perspective of Law. He is not an historian, nor an expert on the Falklands. We only have your statement that he is an “expert” at all.

But again, let ae337 decide that, after he has read Roger's timeline of events. You seem intent on discrediting the book, and preventing ae337 from making an objective analysis.

@66 Can you define your use of the term 'expert' please? I think your intention was to use the term 'academic', which is something else entirely.

Do you not find it bizarre that such an 'expert', by your definition, could be beaten in a fair debate when matched against a set of amateurish 'trolls' and objectively verified truths?

shed, your hate is consuming your soul, life too short , get out, enjoy nature, family. Acusing me of my presidents actions talks very low of you, how old are you btw ?

“It is rare that an Argentinean is willing to openly debate and discuss issues on here”. oops and wonder why. I really dont understand why isnt posible to have a conversation without insulting. All here seems to be focused on change the others believes, well get what, will never happen on neither side so move on , talk about sports , laugh together about CFK and Cameron stupidities, there lots of things to do together.

Fortunately I have a few British friends, visited London love it, which are very nice people so I already convinced that are not all like you here. I took the liberty to read old pages of this website and you people are insulting each other from years now. Ok perhaps this is your hobbie and way to enjoy free hours so then go ahead , Im out

“We are concerned about the unnecessary militarization of the South Atlantic”, said Brasilian Foreign Secretary Antonio Patriota. And added “there are decolonization issues that are still not defenetly solved”.

”We have the responsability of avoiding all kinds of presense, transit and storage of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction“, said Uruguayan Foreign Secretary Luis Almagro.

Argentine Foreign Vicesecretary Eduardo Zuain, noted the concern regarding the military presence in Malvinas. And added ”this issue will be specificly included in the delcaration 22 countries will adopt next Wednessday“.

The final declaration will support UN position. ”There must be a pacific solution to this issue“, said Angola´s Foreign Secretary Georges Chikotti . And added ”we believe a referendum cannot solve this issue Argentina has a legitimate claim over the islands”.

    @71 Islas Malvinas

Thanks for that. Great news isn't it. Funny how a referendum isn't considered “a pacific solution to this issue”.

But we all hope that the Falkland Zealand's are included in any declarations. The more the world knows about the exercise of self determination on the Idlands the better.

It is almost like Argentina has decided to advertise this referendum on behalf of the Islands.

“ I took the liberty to read old pages of this website and you people are insulting each other from years now”

Mate you haven't actually added to the discussion here. In your 5 posts so far you keep saying you would like to discuss the islands' status but you “did not come here to change your or my ideas”.

Continually harping on about the the discourse here without trying to understand the why is just plain naive.

There is a reason why people on here are rude to each other. You might not like that reason but continually highlighting will change nothing. Whee stand above it and add to the discussion or leave.

I asked you questions in my post @59 and you didn't answer. Trying to make other posters look bad while adding nothing makes you a troll.

“There must be a pacific solution to this issue.”
    I fully endorse this statement.
    BUT
Argentina continues to make it impossible.
The Peronistas prefer confontation to cooperation.
CFK continues to make use of the Falklands to try and keep people's minds off the country's real problems. Just like the Junta did.

    @70 Troll much?

@71 Brazil has an agreement with the UK on military cooperation, they know they're eternally chained to a parasitic barrel of smeg, and they'll say anything to make sure said smeg doesn't wash onto themselves.

Besides, the Falklands weren't invited to the cooperation conference, neither were any of the South Atlantic Islands, so what a bunch of outsiders has to say about the South Atlantic is just nonsense.

    get over it, we did.

Instead of wasting his time in Venezuela, Mujica should be trying to fix Uruguayan problems:
    1. Education
    2. Inflation
    3. Criminality and corruption, including the Pluna affair
    4. Argentine bullying
    5. Public health
    6. Inhuman prisons
    7. Railways
    8. Foreign trade
