In the last 60 years one of these two countries has been in an on going process of decolonization and granting independence to former colonies as per the wishes of its subjects; while the other has been engaged in a process of aggressive (unsuccessful) colonial expansion.

We, your neighbors, and most of the world understand that difference. Recent history shows the UK has no imperial ambition, the same can not be said of Argentina.

Argentina you are going the wrong way at an increasing pace and with increasingly hollow rhetoric.

The headline should read: Deluded man makes inane comments.

The only way that Argentina will ever get the Falklands will be over Britain's dead body. And we'll make sure that we take Argentina with us if that should ever look like happening.

20 years, he really is deluded.

But this is, of course, another pointless pile of crap spouted by a pointless pile of crap.

I'd lay better odds that in 20 years time Argentina will have ceased to exist, and will be 'absorbed' by Brazil, Uruguay and Chile. Who knows, even Paraguay might get its land back.

The only problem he has got is that if it is an issue about colonists, then the same issue applies to Argentina.

    @12 - MrFlagpole

Only the penguins are indigenous to the Falklands, which is why their arguments are bollocks, and one of the reasons that they won't take their little dispute to the ICJ.

Mr Timerman makes a bold statement, knowing that neither he nor the mad harpy will be in power in 2o years. In fact, it looks increasingly likely that Argentina won't exist in 20 years, so he has nothing to lose by spouting this crap.

These Argentines obviously believe that the people of Britain are as gullible as the people of Argentina, and that we'll believe any crap he spouts out.

All it has done is show that he is an imbecile, a coward, a Nazi, and definitely a man who doesn't believe in human rights.

No one in their right mind would take this man or Argentina seriously.

But I'm happy for him to keep spouting this crap. There's nothing like over stating a message to make people turn off. I mean look how much affect anti-smoking ads on cigarette packs have. This has the same impact. Everyone goes 'Not again!' and then switches to some nice music in their heads while he babbles on.

It's shocking that a once sensible nation like Argentina has fallen so far, they are really now in the more with North Korea, Iran and Zimbabwe.

    Excellent speech and reflection Timerman:

He also rejected the referendum to be held by the government of the Falkland Islands in the future in March, designed to emphasize that the islanders want to remain part of the British Overseas Territories. He said the referendum “is something that means nothing, because if you ask people who came with colonial colonial power and changed the people living in the islands, is like asking the British people of the Falkland Islands, if they want to remain British. ”

Timerman likened to request only new Jewish settlers in the occupied territories if they want to remain Israeli.

That's brilliant, if there was any doubt about Tinman being out of his depth then this resoundingly answers that question.

His blunders, lack of intelligent comment and ability to make a cohesive argument are one of the many reasons Argentina is in complete failure.

“Falklands will be under Argentine control within 20 years”,

so The Falklands have 20 years to change from a self determined prosperous successful democratic country into a colonized satelite state to a rampant failed dictatorship who controls its indigenous peoples as sub human scum with no UN human rights.....
and this would be in the best interests for the Falklands population???

i guess the only democratic humane way is to ask these people what they want,
oh by the way nice carriers the UK will have, which i do believe will be in service for a lot longer than 20 years :))

Timerman is wrong, not in 20 years .. It will be a little later, because every day that passes the islands have fewer people, the children go to school and do not come back again, just return visit for Christmas .. Argentinos just have to sit and wait, in a few years we will study the archaeological remains of the islanders.

Amazing, just astounding, he has washed away the human rights of those many generations of islanders as though they don't exist and never have done, he is barking mad. Tinman has just blundered along in his bubble of self belief on his mission thinking the whole world stands squarely behind him and his Nation. Things must be worse than we thought back home if they are that desperate to get media attention on the Falklands. He sounds no better than the Malvanist trolls we get on this forum like the demented Sussie. F**cking amazing, and he calls himself a diplomat. God help Argentina.

Dear Tinpotman, Did you know that your “country” has occupied the Islands for a grand total of 134 days since they were discovered. By the time your pitiful little colony rebelled against Spain, Britain had already occupied the Islands for 31,390 days. Of course, Britain claimed sovereignty over a different period. 16,790 days. Makes your 134 days look a bit sick, doesn't it? Tell us, dummy, is Canada not a country? However many resolutions there are, they are NON-BINDING. How about the BINDING resolution your country ignored? The referendum is most important, dummy. It will enable the people of the Falkland Islands to express their wishes. Britain will support those wishes, whatever it takes. And, no, Britain hasn't invaded argieland three times. At best once. And that was a naval blockade. Are you planning a long life, Tinpotman? Reckon you can make it to 260 years of age? Still won't be long enough! By the way, the Falkland Islands are a wonderful training area for all our armed forces. Look forward to seeing more of them. Lots of them!

The one place in Britain that would listen to the prat and give him a voice is the Guardian, but read the comments on the Guardian website. Even the vast majority of Guardian readers can see through his whining bs, and call it as it is

The only people who will listen to malvinista losers like Timmerman are anti-British, poorly educated ignorant people, with a chip on their shoulder. Unfortunately there are far too many of those in the world. However, we're very experienced and adept at dealing with them.

The thing about encouraging free-speech and having a free parliament is that you can allow people to go there and give themselves so much figurative-rope that they hang themselves with it in front of a knowing and educated crowd.

This is effectively what he did, and we should encourage him to do it again. We should also encourage some other interesting characters to do the same, and talk about 'the success of their economy' or some other easily refutable lies.

Free-speech is good. Slaphead making threats is good.

Not quite sure if it was a security threat or a desperate attempt at attention seeking. How could he say that whilst in London? A person that foolish should not be attempting to even pretend to be anything worthy as Foreign Minister.

There is one thing we should have learned from this. Now we know why those in Westminster are keen to keep or replace the Trident Nuclear Deterrent. The second Argentina tries military action, La Casa Rosada should feel the full force of it.

@18 Raul: If is is a good reflection and just, then apply it to Argentina. That the thing about Justice, you have to apply it universally, and Argentina would be the biggest loser with their own line of logic.

You see, like the Falklands, Argentina is a construct or Europeans. The difference is there was no one on th Falkands when the Europeans arrived, unlike that area of SA, which already had a population of REAL south americans. Now the fact that the area of south america that you call Argentina is governed by people that live in Argentina does not mean a great deal, by Argentinian logic, because 97% of you are an implanted population (by your own bizarre definition) and do not get a say in the matter.

So how about you let the real population have an election, and decide what to do with all the european userpers.

Then let's give it 20 years and see if they are bothered about having some europeans 250 miles away over the water(or even further, depending how many countries the REAL south americans decide to split the european construct Argentina into).

Your country is run by the Mafia and corrupt politicians who are filling their boots with whatever the can before slinking off abroad. Your police are corrupt, you can't go out at night for fear of being attacked robbed or killed. One quarter of the population is living on peasant Chinese wages. You need to wake up and sort the country out fast and not interfere with the peaceful law abiding islanders whose gentle and peaceful lifestyle you envy so much.

OK - I'll bite. They've been raised to believe that if they recovered the islands they would somehow be whole again. But this is romantic nonsense because Argentina's problem are largely internal and self-inflicted. And telling Argentinians that they will have the islands in less than 20 years is cruel and irresponsible. If they somehow did get full sovereignty and the right to colonise the islands then it would make no practical difference to the average Argentinian life. In contrast, should their diplomats hit the reboot button they would find that dealing quietly and responsibly with the outside world gets you a lot more respect and a much friendlier hearing.

In 20 months KFC AND Tinman will be gone. Argentina will be a failed state officially. The world will pull the plug and the KFC regime will collapse and her cronies will scuttle off abroad to live off their corrupt proceeds. The problem of the Falklands will recede into oblivion whilst Argentinians struggle to find enough to eat, whilst the Mafia takes over. In a few years the UN will step in to control the civil war. it will make Mexico look like a kindergarten

In pounds please not your worthless wendyhouse currency, I'm willing to bet against that (pity the odds will be crap).

When Timerman you return to planet Earth , you will realise that in 20 years the Falklands are likely to be independent and still protected by the UK who will be a major trading partner.

#123 with all the threats coming from politicians and the british public alike, Argentina would be wise to build a nuclear defence program 100% made in Argentina.
#124 1998, and it was a waste of tax payer dollars in a ghost chase, I am also being honestly serious.
#125 you can start here. http://books.google.ca/books?id=YSih4JkUBesC&pg=PA283&lpg=PA283&dq=yellow+cake+argentina+uranium&source=bl&ots=rxyiBGAyZ9&sig=D4l3NkAPyQ8_9Hlql4IdJ_wq98E&hl=en&sa=X&ei=oKMRUcDVJKT90gGFhIAY&redir_esc=y
#126 we Argentine means we agree to disagree with the english culture, freedom of speech is universal isn't it ? Being a foreigner doesn't seem to stop you people from imposing your ignorance to Argentine subjects.
#127 whom am I reporting? Use it and use it wisely.
#128, #129, #130 caMoron with capital M sounds about right.
#132 retard? Poor boy is that the most sofisticated insult a britard son of a retard can concoct in 2013? Your future looks bleak, when they hand out the imaginary key you talk about let me know I am going there to collect it.
#134 if you know where your things are they aren't lost or are they? Justice comes to us all in the most surprising ways.
#135 that's why smart Argentine would support a nuclear defence program 100% made In Argentina.
#136 we are nothing like the brits.
#137 a floating target for a lucky submarine, a surprise visit could put most out of commission for a long time. Don't forget to sleep with one eye open, tic, tic, tic,bèeeeeeeep.
#141 you seem to think stalking people and predatory homosexuality is OK but its against the law. Get your act together or you will end up in jail, if you aren't institutionalized yet, and I predict that you will be soon.

I love the fact that you keep banging on about your 100% Argentine nuclear defence programme.

It's amusing. It's very amusing, because Argentina is treading water fast, and keeps sinking under the waves. They're too busy trying to keep from drowning to care about your deluded plans.

Just to develop your nuclear weapons programme would bankrupt Argentina for the next 100 years. Plus we all know that any money the government would put towards 'developing' such a weapon would magically disappear, just like the US$2 billion investment in Argentina's airline did.

All of it sitting in various off-shore bank accounts of CFK and her cronies.

With the rampant corruption is Argentina, they will be lucky to build on new military vessel, let alone develop a completely new weapons system.

Keep dreaming Alex, because like your claims to the Falklands, it's just a fantasy.

Just like Mr Timerman's claims that the Falklands would be under Argentina's rule in 20 years time, a fantasy, said to try and distract the people who live in Argentina (not you though is it Alex), who are increasingly not giving a damn about the Falklands as they are too busy trying to survive from day to day.

There is a greater chance that Argentina will cease to exist in 20 years than in it ever gaining sovereignty over the Falklands.

what use would nuclear weapons be to argentina be in this matter? If you nuked the islands would they be useless to you? Or do you think you would nuke the UK? You would need submarines that would be able to avoid the new astutes and that would cost £billions also if you succeeded do you think that the whole of europe would be pissed off with the nuclear fallout landing on their land?
You talk of justice, how about a country that owns vast amounts of land bullying a small group of people 300miles away for their land that have been settled since before you were even called Argentina, is this justified.

You miss the point about modern laws and practices, it does even matter if Argentinas versionof history is true, the fact is, it isnt the modern day islanders fault if it were and 180 years is too late.

It reminds me of that girl that locked up in a guys house and abused for most of her life, he was going to get caught and killed himself, his home and belongings were given to the girl because that is all she had ever known and was all be it wrongly, her home, i hope she sold and moved on etc. But my point is this is all the islanders have ever known and who is Argentina to try to take it away?

#156 freedom of speech and democracy is better then a nuclear defence program but you have to follow the lead or you get dropped behind in this world. A nuclear defence program 100% made in Argentina will create many jobs, money flow, tax returns, demand on products and an energy independent Argentina. See how a nuclear defence program improve the life of the community it depends on, and they pay lots of taxes if you look at their income range. A word of advise burn your micro economic book and get yourself a macro economic book. You might also want to pick up a busyness statistics book and a local stock market traders book. Enjoy.
#157 a 100% made in Argentina nuclear defence program will force UK to invest in more weapons and ships causing a rock in the middle of the ocean to pay for food and arms while Argentina brings itself to the new international defence standards. And it will convince UK that diplomacy is better sooner rather then later. I predict that as soon as an Argentine defence ministers mentions a nuclear DEFENSE program, diplomats will fly in from all over the world to Argentina, Lol no longer sitting out in the halls of another nations capital waiting for some corrupt idiot hiding behind papers.
#157 and who is UK to take that away from Argentina when we did allow for Brits to live there, you ever heard the term, you have overstayed your welcome, now you know. And its fine if you don't want UK to build nukes but we Argentines feel we must build a nuclear defence program 100% made in Argentina to stop our land from being illegally occupied.

Yes a nuclear program would create an idustry but it is very expensive and the people forget about decomissioning, it cost billions and takes years. All this green energy stuff is bullshit it just doesnt have the capicity to feed 65 milllion people, i only ever see green energy giving 10% of any nations power. Nuclear is the only way i feel

I dont think argentina becoming nuclear would be of much concern to the UK military as the UK already has nuclear weapons and wouldnt need to race argentina to develope them.

I dont think Argentina would nuke the islands either, what would that achieve?

A concern to the UK would be argentina having a modern air force and submarines with cruise missles and things like that.

#173 did you go to school with #172? Sounds to me you know little about nothing.
#174 in a modern world of sticks and carrots a nuclear defence program will provide Argentina with a stick. Not to mention energy independence, it just makes good busyness sense, the extra energy can lower the cost of production, and the saving on cost can bring forth lower and more competitive prices, if you did a balance sheet for two busyness that sold and produced the same products, you will see that the energy cost of production is about 20 to 40% more in Argentina then the energy % cost in developed nations not considering industrialization or high tech processes, the saving on energy alone can be the component that turns a third world natural resources rich nation into a #1 world class economy, I don't think Argentina will use the stick neither but you must agree that it is useful to have them. Why do you think everyone is getting one or have one?

NO need to be rude, none of my comments were rude to you.

im confused as to why you think argentina should go down a nuclear route and why it should twist the arm of the UK to leave the islands undefended and leave the argentines to force the islanders out of their homes again?

Also why is Timerman calling the people born on Islands Argentine? What does that mean? If argentina get the Islands would kick everyone out who wasnt born there out? This is starting to sound like a certain German guy isnt it?

The article is excelent, however it's necesary to say also that in a small interview that he gave for our public television, he said that if the u. k starts to respect u. n's resolutions, the islands will be under argentine sovereignty within 20 years.
Although i don't agree with some of timerman's opinions in relation to this question, i must recognize that he's a great chancellour.
He committed some omisions when he mentioned the british occupation of the islands in 1833. Actualy not all the population was expealed, but all those who wanted to be taken to buenos aires, with commander pinedo, who was deprived by onslow of exercising our sovereign rights over the islands.
On the other hand, i must recognize that i feel so ashamed every time i heard some of our politicians saying that the right to self determination is not applicable for the islanders, because they are not an originary population, that's a hipocrite argument, because most us aren't originary populations either. If the right to self determination is not applicable for the islanders, it's because argentina was deprived from the islands in 1833, and the u. k. has never let it to exercise it's legitimate sovereign rights.
Beside, a lot of ignorant people in this forum who know so little about our constitution, recur to the genocide that the argentine state committed when it occupied the patagonia, with the purpose of manifesting that argentina's claim over the islands is hipocrite. However, what many of you ignore is that our const. includes the claims and the rights of the originary populations, which is a true historic reparation. That's something that the u. k. has never made for arg., for having deprived it from the archipelago cowardly in 1833, the same cowardice of the argentine military invasion of 1982, anyway i know perfectly that it won't make it, because unfortunatelly, like it or not, such an admirable nation like the u. k., in some aspects still behaviours like the same thief of XIX century.

I think Argentina need to leave the past behind, you cannot start applying todays opinions and laws with 180 years ago, here in the UK 180 years ago children were hung or imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread or an apple because they were starving, outrageous now isnt it!

The fact remains that there isnt much historical proof or documents for either case really, when you look at it France and Spain could still claim but they dont. The channel islands are much closer to France than the UK but France dont try to claim them.

There is no more colonisation in the world, but we have to live with the aftermath, the UK doesnt have an issue giving the ill gotten lands back and has done decades ago. Argentina only started trying their luck after WW2, when the UK started giving back land.

The borders of coutries in the world were frozen after WW2 and for good reason, because if you start turning back the clock the worlds countries would look very different, there has to be a time when a line is drawn.

Im not sure what argentina are trying to do with this policy of causing as much trouble as possilbe for the UK, they dont have the military capability to escalate the matter further and it is making argentina look silly. Most countries are probably bored of hearing about the windswept rocks now after all there no benefit to them now matter who owns them.

I think Christina is pushing this very hard but I think her mind is clouded and she just trying to follow her dead husbands dream. Is she damaging to argentina?

One posible solution, could be the secret proposal treated between arg. and the u. k. in 1974, which was based on a shared administraton, which was read by c. f. k. before the u. n. in june 14th 2012. If the u. k. doesen't agree with that, then it should search another solution with arg., which respects the wishes of the islanders, and argentina's sovereign rights.

    no worries mate.
Your right, in 1974 i think the UK government were trying to get rid of the islands because they didnt want the expense of keeping them, this isnt an admission that argentina have a owenership case. The islanders protested and thats when the UK broke off the talks and shortly after argentina invaded.

I do recall that the Argentine forces were told not to kill any of the few soldiers that were there, which they suceeded in doing, i think ? A bigger issue is they were forcing the unarmed people out of their houses at gun point, this wont be forgotten.

The problem now is that the past invasion has changed the situation, it cannot be ignored. Argentina didnt respond to binding UN resolutions then and surely they shouldnt now be preaching about non binding UN ones to the UK?

The modern world is now that people decide what they want, if Scotland want out of the UK they will get it, if Gibraltar want to be part of Spain they will have it. Chechnya wanted freedom to do what they want and fought for against a mighty enemy and won, it shows that you cant force your will on people these days.

If the war hadnt happened and argenina were less agressive, i think alot of argenines could be on the islands right now if they wanted and would probably want freedom of their own right now, the Islands will split from the UK completly one day, imho

I remember reading an Argentine soldiers account of his time there and after the initial joy of capturing something he had thought was part of argentina. He thought it was horrible windy cold place were he wouldnt want to live and it was nothing like his homeland and nothing of Islands showed anything remotely Argentine. He picked up a nail on the road and it said “made in England” he looked around and thought, “Who are the invaders” he then thought to himself, “i am the invader here.”

It is difficult to see a solution that will please all here, and that usually ends in force which it already has.

“and argentina's sovereign rights.”having deprived it from the archipelago cowardly in 1833
This is your problem. You keep quoting this as Holy Writ, as if it is indisputable
Our point of view is that you have no right to sovereignty, so, this cannot form any part of dialogue unless the Islanders wish it.

I do recall that the Argentine forces were told not to kill any of the few soldiers that were there, which they suceeded in doing, i think ?

The government MAY have said this but the invading troops acted differently.

QUOTE from the attack on Moody Brook given by Royal Marines
It is my contention that the attack on Moody Brook Barracks was nothing less than an attempt to get the drop on the Royal, by killing them all as they slept.
Moody brook was attacked and trashed in a classic attack to kill everyone in there. I visited moody brook a few weeks :) later and it had all the signs of a firefight albeit a one sided one. I know major Norman he is a no nonsense down to earth sort of bloke, he moved 8901 out as no doubt because if he was attacking he would had gone for the Det first as well.

Maybe the Argies. have tried to sanitise the invasion by twisting the facts but these are quotes from Royal marines who were there.

    “and argentina's sovereign rights.”

This is the impartial rational view of Argentines legal claim.

Developments in International Law Vol 40: The Falklands/Malvinas Case |Roberto C. Laver

    84/ Breaking the Deadlock

A few scholars take the position that Argentina never acquired more than an “inchoate” title over the islands, suggesting that “when Argentina claimed and subsequently occupied the Islands and established a settlement there, she acquired a de facto sovereignty and an inchoate claim to sovereignty based on expectancy. Argentina attempted to perfect her claim but was prevented from doing so by both the United States and England.”74 ... ...proponents of this line of reasoning argue that administrative control over the islands by Vernet was weak and that there was no exercise of state functions by Argentina regarding the islands. It has also been argued that the process of Argentina's achievement of independence was not concluded in either in 1820 or 1832, due to the fact that it had not been formally recognized by Spain. Therefore Argentina could acquire at best a temporary title to the islands, and British actions in 1832 prevented it from perfecting that title.

    86/ Breaking the Deadlock

Could an act of force, such as Britain's seizure of the islands in 1833, constitute a legal basis for title to territory? And if so, under what conditions? Britain has understandably never officiallv advanced the concept that the islands were acquired by conquest or subjugation, which would implicitly admit that the 1833 occupation was an act of pure force.
There are, however, scholars, such as Greig, who support a British title on the basis of conquest or subjugation. As he explains, conquest without any act of formal annexation has been accepted as a basis for title by a majority of writers, though some authors have distinguished the military act of conquest from the legal act of subjugation, which requires annexation or the long exercise of governmental

As i said in others comments, i understand that for many of you the invasion of 1982 ordered by the criminal junta that roled arg. in that moment, is your best excuse to reject the negotiations, however, you should realise that since 1983 arg. is a democracy. On the other hand, if arg. and the u. k. are called by the u. n. to resume the negotiations, it should be respected by both nations.
If we want to discuss about something so complicated like politic issues are, it's necesary to have intellectual honesty, otherwise, we'll be parroting propaganda.
The paragraphs dated by terence are very interesting, in fact, i have always thought that the case has strong and weak aspects for both parts of the conflict.
Our sovereign rights have always been legitimate, due to they were based on the sucession of states, which is applied to all the emancipatted colonial territories, beside, although spain had never ceaded any sovereign right to the u. p., our country had right to declare it's independence, and occupy the territories which were under the jurisdiction of the viceroalty.
In the case of the u. k., i have always thought also that perhaps the u. k. had right to occupy the islands, in virtue of it's occupation of port egmont between 1766 and 1774, or in virtue of the secret article that had been included in the nootka sound convention, signed in 1790 between spain and the u. k., however, if it had any sovereign right over the islands, it should have negotiated a solution with the u. p., or share the sovereignty with it, instead of depriving our country of exercising it's sovereign rights, that was a totally coward act, the same cowardice used by the criminal junta, when it ordered to invade the islands, and take advantage of the vulnerable situation of the islanders.

I never said that spain had all the rights, in fact, if i recognize that perhaps the u. k. had right to occupy the islands, in virtue of the secret article which had been included in the nootka sound convention, or in virtue of it's occupation in port egmont for 8 years (1766-1774), is because i have never considered that spain or the u. k., or the u.p had absolutly all the rights.
For all these reasons, i have always said that if the u. k. had any right, it should have negotiated a solution with the u. p., or share the sovereignty, instead of depriving our country of exercising it's rights.
The case is interesting, but very complicated, and it's necesary to make an ample analysis of the rights of all the parts.
On the other hand, many people in this forum, and the govt. from the islands accuse arg. of pretending just one outcome, which according to their anaysis, that so called outcome is based on a total submission of the sovereignty of the islands to arg., which actualy is absolutly false, in fact, c. f. k. before the u. n. last year, a secret proposal treated between arg. and the u. k. in 1974, which refered to a shared administration of the islands, that proposal took into account the wishes of the islanders, and argentina's sovereign rights.
Beside, the president had said in different oportunities before the u. n., that arg. is not asking the u. k. to recognize that the islands are argentina, it just asks to dialogue about it. However, if after these facts, the govt. from the islands, and many people in this forum insist with that stupid accusation, is because actualy they are just speculating.
On the other hand, at the same time that they accuse arg. of pretending just one outcome, the govt. from the islands manifests that it's disposed to discuss about different issues with arg., but not about the sovereignty, which is the main problem, isn't it pretending just one outcome too?, this doble standar shows their hipocresy.

The 1974 discussions were behind the islanders backs and the UK didnt really want want the islands because they cost money. This doesnt mean argentina had a rightful claim, it means the UK were tryng to pass on an unwanted and costly toy, the islanders protested and the UK had to cave in and give them a voice.

You say - “For all these reasons, i have always said that if the u. k. had any right, it should have negotiated a solution with the u. p., or share the sovereignty, instead of depriving our country of exercising it's rights.”

The United Provinces had no rights to the Falkland Islands, who at the time were the subject of joint sovereignty claims of the UK and Spain. Spain did not acknowledge the independence of ANY of its South American colonies until at least 1863.

So the United Provines had NO legal or VALID claims to the Falkland Islands in 1833. What the UP tried was a land grab. I might've worked, but they didn't count on the UK protecting it's sovereignty claim.

So in late 1832, the UP sent troops to the Falkland Islands.

In early 1833, HMS Clio arrived to remove these illegal troops, and what did they find? A garrison that had mutinied, murdered their commanding officer, and raped his wife.

Not exactly a solid argument for a sovereignty claim, is it?

In fact, the actual colonists, whose community dates back to about 1825, remain on the Islands voluntarily under British rule AND protection.

The United Provinces NEVER returned to the Falklands, despite the only defence being Matthew Brisbane armed with a Union flag.

What does that really say about the validity of any claim from the UP?

Not only that, but even if the UP had a tenuous claim, that does not translate into Argentina automatically inheriting that claim. The United Provinces no longer exist, and therefore, any sovereignty claim died with them.

But thank you for admitting that Argentina didn't exist in 1833, and therefore all your sovereignty claims are as bogus as an INDEC statistic.

You and your fellow Argentines better brace yourselves for huge disappointments ahead. In 20 years time the Falklands will still not be Argentinian, and Argentina itself will probably have ceased to exist, just like the United Provinces did.

Even more disturbing were the photos of Taliban snipers and machine gun operators firing on Canadian US and British patrols and civilian targets - all in the name of “anti-Western Imperialism”!

I agree, he must be a real under-achiever, if not a total dunce.
However, from his FB site, it appears that he makes a living as a well-paid TV/movie set-builder or carpenter, from time to time. Great casual work with short term goals and little responsibility.

He admits on this forum, that he lives off the grid as much as possible - no mortgage, no credit cards. No listed address?? Lives with a SA girlfriend in Toronto.

One thread on FB included pics of him drunk in a hotel room somewhere where his employer put him up. This, I gathered, was unusual for him ( no credit card, remember) - the grinning fool was proudly showing off to his mother and family. Mom replied in Spanish, “ you are just like an Executive!”

BTW, I arrived at the same conclusions you did. And... love those pigeon pics!!
Speaking of which, I think his English is usually not bad, but he gets lazy and to add credibility to his pretence of being a 'real' Argentine, he resorts to a form of Pidgin English, like an Argentine washroom attendant at the now-closed Cruise Terminals.

    TROY TOMPEST. SCOTT BART. LEPRECOM.
TROY and SCOTT: Let me remind you that there is not any resolution which includes the govt. from the islands as a third part. So, there is nothing to discuss with them. Accepted or not, the case is bilateral, between arg. and the u. k., anyway, it doesen't mean that the wishes of the islanders can't be taken into account, and find a solution that respects their wishes, and argentina's sovereign rights, if you have no capacity to understand that the sovereignty is the main problem, sorry, but we it will be very difficult to debate about a fair solution for both parts.
LEPRECOM: Respecting the historic aspects of this conflict, read my comment 191.
On the other hand, the arguments that you express to reject argentina's sovereign rights over the islands in 1833 are inconsistent.
Let me remind you that the discovery just gives a precarious title, which must be improved with a premanent occupation, in that comment i explain the reasons why i think that perhaps the u. k. had right over the islands too.
The u. p. didn't need spain's licence to declare their independence, in same way that it had right to exercise thier sovereign rights over the mainland, they had right to exercise their rights over the soledad island too (actual east falkland), where spain had exercised it's sovereignty for 45 years. The fact that arg. didn't exist in that moment is irrelevant, the country just changed it's name, but it doesn't mean that it lost it's rights.

If France suddenly started claiming rights the islands and going to the UN they would say the same thing, the UN isnt' there to judge matters like this and will always call on parties to discuss issues. it means NOTHING and thats why it is NOT binding.
