And notice that there is a decent of Ds and Rs in the cosponsor list. This isn't a party roll call resolution or otherwise a move by the GOP to stick it in Obama's eyes (or to be more accurate, State's eye). Odd though that a certain cheesehead (R-WI) who has graced Mercopress news items is only co-sponsor. (This is also very new, the draft of the resolution doesn't yet have a number nor is it on “Thomas” yet)

I so hope that the US Congress demand that Pinocho de la Casa Rosada

“With all humbleness we request the Argentine government to recognize the Falkland Island referendum following free transparent vote” adding “it’s the best way to achieve and ensure peace”.

It is recommended that US Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart insert the following paragraphs into his draft resolution recognizing the Falkland Islands referendum:-

Whereas the disputed territory of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas is subject to General Assembly resolution 2065 (XX) Question of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas.

Whereas resolution 2065 (XX) defines the inhabitants of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas as a “population” and not a “people”.

Whereas article 1 (2) of the United Nations Charter reserves the right of self-determination for “peoples”.

    “Resolution 2065... blah blah blah”

Oh, that old chestnut. *rolls eyes*

Sorry, too bad for you. Non-binding 'peaceful' resolution, and you guys blew it when you idiots launched a military invasion of said territory, imprisoning the 'people' and illegally occupying their homes, even when a BINDING UN Resolution ordered you out.

Certainly the USA recognises the population as a 'people'.
Perhaps more importantly, the UK recognises them as a distinct 'people' also.

    :-)

@6 Are those little-P peoples or the big-P Peoples that fascists like you adore who step on the little-p people like you did and proudly cheered on in 1982 in violation of *binding* UN SC Resolution 502.

You are right though, the House resolution is incomplete.

”This House also extends gratitude to the late and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thacher, who despite disagreement on her domestic policy by the undersigned, is fully recognized for her role in defeating the Galtieri Junta, enforcing UNSC 502, liberatng the peoples of the Falklands from genuine threat from the Galtieri Junta and most importantly paving way for a semblance of representative rule in Argentina -- even though at that point the Junta indeed had a public mandate by public aclaimation (as of 03 April 2013) from the masses for more torture, more kidnappings, more forced adoptions, and more people (about 1800 or so) to be thrown from airplanes because ANY price was worth paying in the eyes of the Argentines so long as the fascist boot was on the neck of the Islanders as well.“

And before some Fascist appologist tries it...

”This house also morns the loss of the former USS Phoenix in the same conflict who fought Fascism in WW2, but regrettably in 1982 was destroyed by UK forces while in the service of Fascism, in the ships's CO's own words was actively engaging in warfighting opeations with the express purpose to maintian the illegal occulation and continued threat to the lives and safety of the Falkland Islanders in violation of UNSC 502 and the Island people's fundemental human rights to liberty and self-determination -- which was made only possible in the aftermath of their liberation by the UK forces.”

Admittedly long sentences on my part, but those resolutons typically are a collection of run-on sentences that pay more mind to sentiment than best writing practices, and sometimes even grammar and sometimes embarassing spellcheck errors.

@9 What a pathetic little liar you are, Hepatia. Timerman was offered an opportunity to dialog with all parties that mattered, Hague and two representatives of the FIG, they had a chair and I suspect some nice hors d'oeuvres (hey, free food, a photo op for a political hack and we all know how they crave validation, AND a chance to appear “rational” and diplomatic which for a foreign secretary should have spelled Win, Win Win!). It would have been a PR coup even if he just had said that the only place the Islanders belonged was under Argentina's fascist jackboot. But no. He ran like a coward escaping from reality -- because that's what he was and that's what he and you as a country are running away from.

Hepatia, Thats a lie! The UK has not refused all dialogue, it has in fact agreed to dialogue on the very simple (and i would consider intimidating) grounds that members of the Falklands are present and can join the dialogue!!!!!!!!

Why do you guys lie sooooo much??? Why are the RG's so frightened of chatting with a few Falklanders????

    Really quite sad!

There is a conflict between nations. What is the nation you currently represent? Your community is the result of the removal of the previous population by force and its replacement by settlers sent from the UK. Or will you support that Capt. Onslow convinced Lt. Pinedo to leave by his logical arguments alone?

    @yaghan

    1) Pinedo should never have been there, or the 'garrison' of murderers and rapists.

    2) Not everyone left - even Reviero(sp.?) and several others with Spanish names, stayed, and were lived and died there, months and years later.

Your claims are a farce, as we have covered countless times on here, including names and histories.

You know that already, of course.

BTW, the Falklanders represent a people, the Falklanders.

@9 Hepatia. Again another myth! The UK has NOT REPEAT NOT “refused all dialogue on the issue”. The UK will talk with Argentina at any time as long as the islanders are included in the discussions.

    @9 Hepatia
Argentina refuses, CFK refuses, Timmerman refuses, Alicia Castro refuses. The islanders and Britain have been up front all the time, talks can be held. Argentina knows it will not gain sovereignty from talks, the last thing they want is talks as it will be a failure. It is not in the islanders interests to become part of a country so unfulfilled as Argentina and so contrary to British sentiment.
Thanks United States Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, you get my vote!

@ Hepatia. You have a very selective memory. Agreement over the Falklands dispute was reached between Argentina and the UK in October 1989 after “dialog” in Madrid. Your idiot President Nestor Kirchner tore that agreement up and threw it away. Your country cannot keep to agreements, that's your problem. Live with it!

    @Yaghan
It obviously escaped your notice that the people on the Falklands in 1832 had British permission to be there, that when the illegal Liga Federal (so not Argentine, not even United Provinces) garrison left peacefully only 4 of those civilians went with them - the rest, approximately 30 people remained on the Falklands. Please stop trotting out 1930s myth and educate yourself with the facts.

    Yaghan

You talk of the removal of the “previous population” by force in 1833.

I ask you the following questions

    1) how many people left the islands with Pinedo on Jan 6th 1833?
    2) when had all but four of them arrived?
    3) who were they, what happened to their captain?
    4) given 1-3, where these really the “previous population”?
    5) the actual “civilians” on the islands in 1833, did they leave with Pinedo?
    6) who was the leader of these civilians on the islands? What was his nationality?

When you can answer these questions...Look in your own “National Archives” you will find the “truth”.

    1) 59
    2) Three Months earlier
    3) a paid militia (not civilians), who mutineed, murdered Mestevier and raped his wife
    4) ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
    5) only four, who went to Montevideo
    6) Matthew Brisbane, British.

If Congressman Diaz-Balart manages to get this resolution through Congress it will only be a matter of time before 'official' US policy will have to be altered to recognise this.

You see, my Argentine friends, Congress and the Senate are where the real power lies in the US, not with the President. He is the Chief Executive, but is still answerable to Congress and the Senate, and relies on their support to run the country. If the President loses that support then he might as well resign, as his tenure will be impotent.

It's also good to see that Congressman Diaz-Balart's resolution has cross party support, from both Democrats and Republicans. Now that will make the White House sit up and listen.

@9 Advice: Bang head on wall until hole appears large enough to let this in. The UK refuses dialogue on the “issue” of sovereignty because there is no “issue”. Neither is there any “dispute” as that was “settled” in 1982. WHEN the ISLANDERS choose, they will have dialogue with whoever THEY choose. On THEIR terms.
@14 There is no conflict between “nations”. The UK is a nation. The Falkland Islands are well on their way to becoming a nation. Argieland is just a bunch of murdering, genocidal, corrupt war criminals.

As an Argentine I agree. If we were governing the Falklands/Malvinas today, the islanders, whether of British stock or Argentine replacements, would be far worse off. Argentina is a cancer-stricken nation with today's youth sporting Che Guevara t-shirts, and the president until recently, hugging and kissing Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. Many of the current political figures holding seats of power are former Montoneros and ERP communist guerrillas. Argentina needs to grow up and become a serious nation before being taken seriously, but alas Argentina is still a child and a 3rd World nation thanks to the anarchist and bolsheviks that emigrated in large numbers to Argentina in the late 1890s and early 1900s and their sons and grandchildren that took up arms against the state in the name of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.

@26, what a load of crap. The Cuban-exile commuity while moslty (very) Republican leaning are also (very) Latino/a and lean towards trade and positive relations with LATAM. It's one of the reason white liberal college professors channel any anti-latino bigotries they may have into that demographic. While I'll lay beer money on the table to say that he is likely going to be anti-leftist/anti-“bolivarian”, the other signatories, a notably bi-partisan roll call are certaintly not a bunch of Tea-Partiers and “D.I.N.O.'s”, nor are they anti-Latino or racist. What they ARE responding to is a plebicide of a people who were brutally occupied by your favorite fascist neo-colonialists, and long-term frustration with a small clatch of pinheads at State who either still think that the Cold War is going on and we must still pander to Argentina or that we still have a working Montroe Doctrine.

@26 What's the matter? No access to “research”? He was born in Fort Lauderdale.
@29 I agree with you. It's why I rarely try to reason with “latinos” in general and “argies” in particular. They don't have enough brain or “reason” to make it worth my while. For me, I have “conquered” a number of “latinos”, enabling them to spend numbers of years in locked “rooms”. As for my “nick”, it refers to probably the second-favourite vessel in the Royal Navy. HMS Conqueror. The vessel that, at 15:57 Falkland Islands Time on 2 May 1982, fired three 21 inch Mk 8 mod 4 torpedoes at something called the “Belgrano”. One torpedo struck 10 to 15 metres aft of the bow, blowing the ship's bow off. The second torpedo struck about three-quarters of the way along the ship, exploding in the aft machine-room. The third torpedo apparently struck one of the escorting destroyers, Hipolito Bouchard, but, regrettably, failed to detonate. Unfortunately, the maximum speed of the escorting destroyers exceeded that of HMS Conqueror. Clearly, they were running too fast for HMS Conqueror to catch up. Notably, HMS Conqueror returned to Faslane Naval Base, flying a Jolly Roger adorned with torpedoes, a customary act of Royal Navy submarines after a kill. A truly glorious name, you will agree.

I think the Cuban emigre right may have become more against the continent as a whole of late, the more leftist the majority of its governments become. Similar to how the British position has been taken up by the much of the Argentine right out of spite at Cristina, even though Galtieri was one of them!

The UK has not refused dialogue with Argentina.

In fact as Argentina do not recognise Islanders as being from the Islands and part of Britain, I don't understand the problem of Islanders being present in talks if the Argentines recognise them as from the UK and not Falkland Islanders?

Argentina could only logically object to the Islanders being a 'third' party if they accepted them as Falkland Islanders.

But then, Argentinian governments cannot make their mind up on anything, hence they cannot even secure reliable energy supplies for their country.

The mudslinging re who killed who & who did what to whoever has already been done to death on other threads.
    Why bring it up here?
The article is about the beginning of the US acceptance of our right to exist & at last, the recognition of Argentina's lies.
Muddying the waters will not advance Argentina's ridiculous“claims”one iota.
The reason to bring up Argentina's past crimes is to show the malvinistas that their country too, has a dark past.
They seem to think that they are pure & noble while the rest of us are genocidal maniacs.
malvinistas- a deluded bunch of losers.

But unlike some on this blog I don't hold individuals responsible for every action of their government or past governments,

    so thats ok then,
untill the next time you do it..lol.

#69 Nonsense. I was genuinely shocked and dissapointed at your genocidal ravings on Arabs and the middle east, and I am determined to keep giving you the opportunity to withdraw them...

    # 54-55-56 - Yep, after countless US interventions and US-backed military coups, Venezuela, Cuba and Iran have more legitimacy here in South America than the US congress that still thinks South America is it's backyard. The Kirchners are not more of a “house” than the Bush family in the US, of which Jeb Bush is likely to run to be the republican candidate in the next US presidential elections. Sounds like you half twits don't understand the difference between a democracy and an absolutist monarchy.

When you walk amoung them, ask me again.

#73 reads like you have no clue what the republcans are doing. They are in shambles and can't find any candidates. But your extreme left papers need to print something. And I would not rate SA as well as the USA backyard. What the Brits and myself and yankee explain the difference in a monachy and democrary to you? Being you self admittedly do not know?
The husband is president then the wife......and the plan was to go on and on like that, but the devil needed nasty nestor more and ruined the plans. I would call 16 years of kirchners and seeking to make it 20 years a house of kirchner.

More democratic to have two politicians who are husband and wife (which might mean they have similar politics y'know, so if you like one why not the other!), than to elect the imbecile son of a previous president. Especially when the imbecile wins with less votes than the guy he beats!

As far as I know Cristina doesn't have an imbecile son =) But no serious analysts see Maximo as a serious prospect for the Presidency any time soon. My own first choice would be Cristina, after her Timmerman, but then its not my decision - maybe one day I'll get to vote for a President though, of Bitain =)

Fatsimo the fat fucking kirchner is a druggie with a sexual affliction for the youth of Argentina, not to forget his obesity problem. I seriously doubt that he was an imbicile, or even an idiot, but definitely a moron....rating of 51 to 70.

So you long for the day you can vote in a president,
    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Well you may not know but your wish may well come true,
    Yep true.
    ,,,,,,,,,
But you won’t be voting for a British president,
As that will never ever happen,
But a European president is a certainty,
Sadly you may not want what you would like to vote for,
    mmm

I suspect that he might be voting for a president much nearer to home if the vote goes to them leaving the Union: the President of Scotland, old salmon chops himself.
