    I didn't see Argentina mentioned in the article. After all, the article talked about “countries whose governments are pushing comprehensive reform agendas and implementing public policies to bring about economic growth and inclusive prosperity at all levels of society” so that rules Argentina out anyway.

    Don't worry Nostrils you're getting what you want. You can go away now.

    @2 Elena
    As far as I was aware, Panama was applying for membership. Is it official yet? To join, I think you have to implement certain visa and customs regulations more than grandstand with empty rhetoric like many other trade blocks.

    @4 Anglotino

    Panama is already an observer state http://thecostaricanews.com/pacific-alliance-will-close-its-tariff-agreement-before-march-31/14569
    and along with Costa Rica very soon will become a full member of the PA. It just needs to get an agreetment with Colombia and Mexico for the neccesary FTA´s

    Australia is also an observer, however I don't think our visa regime will allow us to become a full member. However I hope we integrate a lot more. I don't think we trade enough with Latin America and I think we should be looking to ease travel restrictions to do it.

    Unfortunately every country except New Zealand needs prior permission before travelling here.

    Yes indeed, but Panama already agreed to lift it´s visa requeriments for tourist as well as entrepreneurs since the second summit, and after consulting some recent news it seems Panama got an agreetment on the FTA with Colombia and Mexico so soon it will become a full member. All Latam member countries of the PA have made a priority to lift visas between each other so there can be a more profound integration. PA looks to get free pass of goods, ppl(from students to entrepreneurs) and services between members.

    I think is great for Australia to have more comerce with Latam, you are right in that the visa can be restrictive but it may not have to lift it completely so soon to develop more comerce IMO but I don´t really know much about Australia status inside the Pacific Alliance to tell you the truth, you may know a lot more than me :-)

    I like this a lot. Especially the line

    “growth as a result of social inclusion”

    The fact that Mexico is in there is very interesting.

    Handouts they called it....

    Hahaha

    Well, yes, we fear PRI has yet to let go it´s populist tendencies, it isn´t coincidence it needs the other two big parties to get some level of trust and leverage for reforms, I am happy so far the opposition is calling PRI out on it.

    And The Pacific Alliance from what it´s indeed tries to develop grow , I am very happy to see how this group has advanced in getting Latam countries closer making it a virtuous circle of mutual help. And a manner to get close to China and the rest of Asia in a more asertive way :-)

    If the Pacific Alliance introduce growth as a result of social inclusion, Mercosur and PA would be two sides of the same coin.

    A Latin American trade alliance, for a starter?

    @10 “mercosur” has major problems. It believes in interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. It's not democratic. It's autocratic. And it has argieland in it. But let's try “reality”. “A Latin American trade alliance”. Joke. If Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru wanted to be like “mercosur”, they could have joined. The fact that Chile and Peru have “mercosur” associate member status but are in the Pacific Alliance as full members should tell you a lot. “Seen it, didn't like it”.

    Same thing? Not at all, but if the PA introduces the same politics as Mercosur, they will be.
    They can always introduce them and take the credit for coming up with the idea. That's fine too, we need no credit.
    We need social inclusion to spread all across Latin America.

    10 Stevie

    That was the intention from the beggining, to get closer ties between all Latam countries each one with their prefered model. PA is open to have ties with Mercosur, Uruguay show itself as a bridge between PA and mercosur when it became an observer of the PA and even Paraguay and Brazil have asked to be observers too and it doesn´t mean they will leave Mercosur as their principal economic activities are done there. As I see it, this isn´t a zero-sum game, you can be part or not of either the PA and Mercosur, or part of both each country has it´s priorities and pov.
