Well, if you are going to fail, better to go for the complete FAIL rather than failing a little bit huh???

    Inflation has ballooned

    Unemployment is climbing

The flight of capital is accelerating

Official corruption is very much extended

The dollar clamp has eroded business opportunities

Dozens of international corporations have been forced to abandon Argentina.

She's got all the boxes ticked, don't you think......................?

@1 more to go for perhaps?.....

Amending the constitution to give herself a third term - throw in a bit of electoral fraud if required, because the people don't always know what's good for them.

    Judicial persecution of opponents

    Nationalisation of private assets

    State sponsored terrorism

War with other nations (unlikely given the state of the armed forces, admittedly)

Suppression of democratic rights such as the right to protest

Because you've got to have ambition, right? Plenty left for CFK to get her teeth into.

    Hahahahahaha!!!!
    These yanquis are hilarious.
They seem to believe the rest of the World are as uneducated as them.

I said it yesterday and I say it today.
There is not one single thinking human being with an ounce of source criticism that will take that report seriously.
It is biased in the ABSTRACT!
At least wait until the empirical data before trying to manipulate the facts.
And personal feeling has also a place, in the conclusion section. :)

Dismissed (by all except Murdoch and sidekicks)

Are you suggesting that those in Latam are better educated than those in the US?

But this would directly contradict your argument just two days ago, that the lack of any innovative or entrepreneurial success in Latam (as borne out by Nobel prizes was the example) was due to “lack of opportunity”.

I am confused by this contradiction. Either the US is “uneducated” as you suggest above, but their record of Nobel Science prizes, innovations, inventions and improvements to the knowledge of man is someway false...or somehow the boogie has cheated you again, and it's all unfair.

It's the boogie man isn't it Stevie?

Really, you Uruguaians are terribly well educated but you've been cheated haven't you...LOL

I'm sure there are educated yanquis, Monkey.
But those ones that wrote that particular article, are not.

When you write a report, there are guidelines to follow.
Those guidelines are accepted worldwide as a method of documentation, gathering of data, presentation and even personal judgement.

That report is biased and written by an upset 15-year old girl in her worst week of the month.

And it will be regarded accordingly.

    It is biased.

If it's wrong or not is up to the reader to decide.

But the fact that it is biased takes all value of the report, as the reader isn't supposed to get information out of it, but already made up views.

I have never ever read a report that is so obviously biased already in the abstract, and I have read LOADS of reports.

Whatever your views about Mr Farah, and I have no knowledge of him at all, there is no smoke without fire. Even the most ardent of RG nationalists and CFK supporters must be able to see not all is well, and the attempts to politically control the judiciary must be the last straw for right thinking respecters of democracy. If you want authoritarian dictatorship then go for it. but don't try to fool the rest of the world into thinking you have a functioning democracy.

There is an awful lot of smoke, and we think we know the seat of the fire, don't we ?? Thugs rule.

  • Teaboy2

So Stevie the report is biased because its based on true facts is it? i suggest you look up the meaning of the word biased! As there is nothing unfair about reporting true facts nor is there any prejudice in reporting true facts. You just don't like what you read and therefore claim its biased, but the truth is, its not biased just because you don't like what you read.

For it to be biased it would have to be based on deliberately misleading untrue facts which would therefore mean it would be unfair and prejudice Argentina. Douglas Job was to report the true facts and that is what he did - Nothing biased about that!

You haven't even read the full 64 pages of the report, i suspect. So you can hardly come on here proclaiming a report that you have not read yourself as being biased just because you don't like what you heard in this news article about what was in the report.

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean everyone's not out to get you.

Is inflation high (28%) and rising - yes

    Is unemployment rising - yes

Is there capital flight ( I presume so what with the widening difference between official and unofficial exchange rates and the seizure of privhate assets and restricting currency transfers I would expect it).

Is official corruption growing (the signs are there but it is difficult to prove with the government blocking Argentina proper independent investigations).

Is the dollar clamp eroding business opportunities (of course if business cannot buy the goods it needs to operate and outsiders don't invest because they cannot get their money out).

Dozens of international businesses have been forced to abandon Argentina (presumably the report names them, but the risks of operating in the country has massively increased what with the privatisation of YPF, the politicisation of the courts, the use of private paramilitary groups by the government, the falsification of economic statistics, opposition street protests - this is not unexpected)

This guy may be the most bias person in the universe but his conclusions do seem consistent with what is happening in the country.

Stevie, The info in the report is all well known and factual, most of it was pulled from public sources.
There is no reason for it to be biased what would the writer gain or even the readers gain?

The report is damning and is one in a series of truly awful reports being made all over DC about Argentina. Treasury just got done with theirs too and basically called Argentina a rogue nation and scofflaw.

I think the only question people are asking is do we tighten the noose now or just wait for CFK do it all on her own.

    Try
“Under the corrupt populist government of...” in the abstract.

If you write a report like that, you state the actual doings and let the reader decide if there is corruption and populism.
Or you present proof to back your claims.
That is done under the empiric facts in the same report.
Your personal views on the matter belong to the discussion and conclusion section.
The abstract is to give the reader a quick introduction to the matter that is being studied in the actual report.

    Love to your Island.

    Not at all.
It's biased because it has no other meaning than to give the reader a view that is already made up.
It has no intention on informing on actual matters, as Little as it present any type of proof, other than the usual rantings that are most common on sites like MP.

The whole rotten mess that is present day Rgland reminds me of the step by step transformation that occurred in Orwells Animal farm. The good thing about that is that other nations can clearly see that. The bad thing is that many of the inhabitants seem, like Stevie and the rest of the ignorant trolls, to be blissfully unaware of what is happening to their homeland, even defending their corrupt government on forums like this.
After resolution 2065, the UK did play the white man and seriously try to reach an accord with the Rgs and the Islanders, but this was completely halted by the Rg invasión leading to 30 years of distrust. The current destruction of Rgland, by a corrupt and increasingly authoritarian government is just reinforcing British determination to make the Falklands self supporting and prosperous free of any Rg influence in the foreseeable future.
This man may be a tosser, but what he is saying is largely truthful and will only distance Rgland from developed nations classifying it as a pariah and basket case.

Too obvious, ducky.
@5 Read it, have you? Did you get any further than the second paragraph? You know, the one where it says her personal fortune jumped from US$1.6 million in 2003 to US$18 million by the end of 2012. Figures taken from her own public disclosures.

After all, CFK and her stooges like to quote around 40 UN resolutions, all of which are NON-BINDING. Isn't that biased? They also like to ignore the UN Charter. Isn't that biased?
@21 I don't understand your objection. It's a government. It's populist. And it's corrupt. Look at it this way. If you trip over a spade in the dark, you may call it all sorts of things. But it's still a spade.
@24 Don't understand where you're going. Perhaps if you noted that it's not an “article”. It's a report. And it's 64 pages long. Why would any news agency publish a 64 page report when it can be freely read at strategycenter.net?

    Hi Welsh
I will answer you question as best as I can.
But first, I want to ask you if we are dicussing the actual reform, or the what the reform is about.

If we are discussing the reform itself, well, the Argentines have every right to change their judicial system as they wish.
There are routes to follow in order to do so, and no other nation should tell Argentina what she should do, as little as Argentina can tell the UK how to deal with their judicial system.

If we are talking about the reforms themselves, well I can't see why it would be bad for the people to choose whom will take a seat in the Consejo de Magistratura. Why shouldn't the people decide?

The part that talks about equality is just an extension to the above mentioned reform, just to make sure that those occupying the Consejo aren't priviliged in any way.

Then we have the part that talks about sentences (judgements). That those should be made public is quite democratic, I would say.

Furthermore, we have the “patrimony” section, saying that every statement of the Poder Judicial shall be public and documented in Internet.

Finally we have the cassation reform.
That one is difficult to agree with, as it can indeed be abused.
But in theory, it's another step in the juridical process, prior to the Supreme Court.

How it will deal with corruption?
Ask yanquiboy, he's the one with the predictions...

My prediction is a Romanian style retirement party for the top 1000 or so CFK ministers and staff.
    That would help a lot
maybe not cure it once and for all, you may need to add a zero or 2 before that can happen.

@54 - I have no issue with the people deciding to change their system if that is what they want, after all they will be the ones living with it. Judgements should be published but your level of previdelge should not affect your ability to make judgements of law.

However, choice of magistrates by people leads to considerable lobbying and a political tendency amongst the judiciary to make the popular decision, rather than the right one. I think it is dangerous for people vote for a judge because he is “one of us” or because he/she is aligned with a political party. All this does is continue either an element of corruption or it compels judges to make decisions which will either favour or benefit their specific electorate. At present it seems the the judiciary in Argentina is corrupt. These reforms don't seem to deal with that problem; it just moves the pressure of abuse/corruption to an external source. I’m also not keen on the ability of the state to curtail the powers of the judiciary with regards to judgements against the state; this is damaging and affects the separation of powers.

I’m also not keen on people voting for judges. The law is a conceptual beast and difficult to understand at times. The application of the law is difficult and the majority of people don’t understand the subtleties of the arguments involved. I also doubt that people are going to read through the full judgements and make an informed decision based on full knowledge of all the facts and also of the intricacies of law involved. They are more likely to make a decision based on whether the judgement was pro or anti their political view-point. None of this helps to deal with corruption. The judiciary is supposed to be independent and check the power of the executive. If this was done properly in Argentina we might slowly start to see the end of corruption in the political classes.

@37 Aaah, “Stevie”, but WE are the ones to point the finger. You see, we have centuries more experience, knowledge, education and intelligence. You are just “aping” your betters. You've adopted various “forms” but you don't really understand them. Let's give you some examples. You understand that the one with the most votes rules. What you haven't yet grasped is that a “government” doesn't “rule”. It “governs”. There's a difference. And buying votes is wrong, no matter what the means.
@39 So why don't YOU look at the Spanish etc invasion, occupation and theft of South America.
Look at the 2 “Conquests of the Desert”.
Look at the argie “Dirty War”.
Look at the Uruguayan rural revolt starting in 1903.
Look at the dictatorship between 1933 and 1938.
Look at the Tupamaros, the closure of the Uruguayan Congress and effective military rule until 1985.
Look at argieland's unfounded, illegitimate and illegal claims to the Falkland Islands.
Look at Uruguay's wimp-led support for argieland.
@45 But do you “understand”? Where did you get the word “payed”? The educated would use the word “paid”. Is this a clue to your lack of education and comprehension?
@53 Thank you very much for that research. It clearly shows why “Stevie” doesn't “answer” comments. It's obviously a “foreign” argie implant. I say “It's” because it's not clear whether it has a sex. Is “Stevie” just a student somewhere trying to eke out its grant? That would be reasonable considering that “student” equals “layabout”. Sorry, that should have been “student” equals “uneducated, scrounging layabout”. But there are other clues. It supports argieland, it's thick and it can't “debate”. It's an argie

@57 Look at others I suppose. We don't have a corrupt judiciary and I am wondering why that is. I have a feeling it is the case because the judiciary and politics aren't linked. You do not go from one to the other and it is not seen at any point as being a step into politics. Furthermore it is hammered into your that decision are made on the basis of the law in existence at the time, if that upsets the government then so be it. The judges really do not care whether a judicial review finds against the government if that is the right legal decision.

I think that a change is needed from the bottom up. bars must be place on members of the judiciary moving from bein state prosecutor into a political position and, if you want to become a judge, you must marry yourself to this profession and calling for a lifetime. You must learn to serve the law, not yourself.

Having posted the link to this report on: http://en.mercopress.com/2013/04/27/malvinas-radical-group-begins-campaign-against-lan-chile-offices-in-buenos-aires

and recieved ridiculous comments from “Stevie” about how biased the report is, I looked up Douglas Farah on Wikipedia at: http://en.mercopress.com/2013/04/27/malvinas-radical-group-begins-campaign-against-lan-chile-offices-in-buenos-aires

His credencials are very good, and his sources for the report are excellent and all are given in footnotes, so the accusations of “bias” in regard to this report are stupid and childish.

It would seem that “Stevie”, who wishes to pass him/her/itself off as an Urugyan Tupa, has called him/her/itself an “expat”, admits to not being a native Spanish speaker, uses Google Translate to translate Spanish to English and apparently thinks the sun shines out of CFK's arse, was initially designed to be a replacement for Doveoveredover but that went wrong when “Stevie” started him/her/it's rants and showed that him/her/it was obviously not a Brit.

    BEHIND SOME EXPRESSIONS OF WISHES.
After reading this article, i can see that it isn't no more than the tipical too partial anaylisis, full of omissions, which are usually published by imperialist nations, in relation to the governments which decided not to continue being u. s. .a's backyard.
If it soposes that in argentina there is less freedom of expression, how is is posible that many reports are published everyday, which criticise the corruption cases that involve c. f. k's govt?. Unfortunatelly, most reports published by the most powerful corporations are often just mediatic operations full of lies or distortions.
Respecting the official advertising, it's necesary to say that it represents just the 10% of the whole advertising. While it is true that the govt. eliminated some official advertising for some media which weren't aligned with it, which is repudiable, it is also true that justice finally judged on behalf of some media which took the case to justice.
On the other hand, can somebody tell me what is the change of c. f. k's govt. in reference to the amia cause?. What is not told in this article, is that the memorandum will be treated by the suprem court, which is a prestigious and independent institution. Would an authoritarian regime have an independent court?, what kind of authoritarism is this guy talking about?.
Respecting the so called dollar clump, what is not told in this article, is that this decision stopped the capitals flight. In fact, c. f. k's govt. had to tolerate six intents of financial coup d'etats. However, the economy didn't collapse, like in other periods, it means that despite all the serious problems that we still still have, the economy is very solid.
On the other hand, while it is true that we had a high decelaration in our economic expansion last year, it is also true that the number of unemployed people remained almost in the same level. Beside, inflation isn't increasing so much thanks to the agreement signed some months ago.

Yankee, I think that this is a problem of badly maintained servers rather than government intervenntion. That is not to say that the government is capable of censoring a web site, but usually these break downs affect more than the “independent” news sites, they usually also involve online shopping sites and even the local Google server!!!

Which is my point. This story is so unimportant that The Hill can afford to ignore it. Yet it is published in Mecopress. I wonder why.

The truth is that half of all Americans have submitted something to Congress for discussion. This story is nothing for a sensible reader to concern themselves with. However, for a xenophobic British red neck, such as yourself, this story is something for you to whip yourselves into a frenzy. I love it!

    107. The Hill is not a nationally read newspaper. It is really for the DC crowd and they'd never report on a Corrupt South American Dictator. It is not what they do. They focus on legislative issues and general DC gossip.
They would probably report on Argentina when sanctions are brought, they're thrown out of IMF or CFK is brought up on drug charges. Something like that but certainly not a report to Congress.

Well you probably would love to see a lot of things that will never happen. One thing about being a reserve currency is we can always print whatever we need to pay off the debt.
We could also declare war on China, nationalize everything they have within our borders, stop trade, and declare the debt paid for damages.
But that is a bit extreme even for me
Although that is what we did to Germany in WW2

Just shutting down trade would probably be enough to send them into revolution pretty quickly.

Seems the Chinese economy has reached maturation stage in 30 years where the USA took 150 years of growth before maturing. Services is now taking over the economy as manufacturing is taking a backseat. Of course manufacturing is going back to the USA and Malaysia. China knows they need the middle class buying power of the USA and Europe. But nimrods in SA still think China is their messiah.
