Millions of underage children worldwide working in hazardous conditions
An estimated 10.5 million children worldwide, most of them under age, are working as domestic workers in people’s homes, in hazardous and sometimes slavery-like conditions, says the ILO. Six and a half million of these child labourers are aged between five and 14 years-old. More than 71% are girls.

Brazilians continue to violently protest higher transport cost in the main cities
Sao Paulo authorities were on Wednesday assessing the damage from a violent protest over higher public transportation prices that left three people hurt and 20 detained overnight. Demonstrators torched buses, hurled petrol bombs and smashed windows during clashes with police who responded with tear gas and rubber bullets.

Falklands at C 24 June 20; UN Committee supports sending missions to Non-self Governing Territories
The United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, or C 24, will be hearing the Falklands/Malvinas question in a week’s time, Thursday June 20, after having heard those relative to Gibraltar and Western Sahara on Wednesday 12 June.

World Bank cuts global growth outlook as Europe remains in deep recession
The World Bank cut its outlook for global growth, saying the economy should expand more slowly this year than last as it cited a deeper-than-expected recession in Europe and a recent slowdown in some emerging markets such as BRIC members.

Falklands’ hero and 1982 governor Sir Rex Hunt honoured by Foreign Secretary
The British Government’s, “pride and thanks,” was expressed at Sir Rex Hunt’s memorial service in London last Tuesday. Sir Rex Hunt was Governor of the Falkland Islands when the Argentine military invasion on 2 April 1982. After the conflict Sir Rex who the Argentines expelled from the Islands returned to this job at Government House in Stanley.

Malvinas: Argentine lawmakers invited to deliver their position before the Irish parliament
A delegation of Argentine lawmakers headed by the presidents of the foreign affairs committees from the Senate, Daniel Filmus and Lower House, Guillermo Carmona are currently in Dublin where they will discuss with their peers and Irish authorities Argentina’s position in the Falklands/Malvinas sovereignty dispute.
