Conservative businessman Horacio Cartes was sworn in as president of Paraguay on Thursday, amid slowly improving relations with South American neighbors, and Mercosur members, damaged by the 2012 removal of populist President Fernando Lugo, who was impeached on incompetence. Read full article

    Be sensible, Paraguay. If you “want” mercosur, demand that it admits your suspension was wrong and illegitimate. Make it publicly apologise. Make it return Venezuela to its previous status. A “leader” that reckons that a little birdie represents a dead nutter is just a live nutter. And demand that you take the chair. Not for 6 months, but for 12. Actually, it might be an idea to have argieland suspended until it has a proper democratic government.

    For those not in the know, what the Colorado party means by 'war on poverty' is what we know as 'war on the poor'.

    I can see why you would have a problem understanding Cartes wanting to be rid of the poor, when Argentina wants to keep the poor.
