Full article 34 comments

Mercosur parliament, Parlasur, resumed activities on Monday and the first thing it agreed on was to name a committee to help find a way out to the controversy between Paraguay and Venezuela. Although Venezuela holds the rotating chair of Mercosur, Paraguay refuses to acknowledge even its status as full member of the regional group. Read full article

“So far only Paraguay elects Parlasur representatives directly.”

God, how much more could Paraguay show up the other Mercosur members?

Paraguay should forget about the idealogical closed minded politically motivated Mercosur & align itself with the more forward thinking, free market friendly economies of the Pacific Alliance!!!

For reasons that you fail to understand, that will not happen.
You lot all share that trait, you share your ideas with a total disregard for reality...

    Just not seeing it.

    Please spell it out.

Why are the reasons such a mystery ?

It's no mystery. Go to Paraguay yourself and you'll see it's written in the walls...

' On May 23, 2013, Paraguay was accepted as an observing member of the newly formed Pacific Alliance at a summit of regional leaders in Cali, Colombia'

Sounds like a touch of reality to me!!!

Yes, Uruguay has been so for a while now, and we are still not abandoning Mercosur. That would be to ignore every geopolitical sign and reality alike in order to fulfill an overseas dream of divide and conquer in exchange for limosnas...

Think even Australia is observer in the PA, and I'm pretty sure they won't abandon any trade agreements for the sake...

“Special Mercosur parliament committee”. Composed of politicians from where? Argieland? That set the illegitimate “suspension” procedure going? Brazil? That thought it could “lean” on Paraguay again? Uruguay? The little wimp place that got browbeaten and set principles and legality aside? And publicly admitted it. So it should be off to the ICJ. Let the world decide! Declare mercosur illegitimate! Set the reparations to be paid to Paraguay! And judge that Venezuela should be returned to its previous status! And make mercosur pay all the costs!

Stevie, you make empty allusions, but you are avoiding answering in a straight forward manner.
Are you afraid to tell us the reasons you believe?

Perhaps you don't know, or feel they don't stand up to logic ?

Stevie doesn't have rational answers, just some simplistic, vacuous belief that the rich greedy developed world is bad, the poor victimised developing world is good.

Presumably every time he leaves his extremely well paid job in the oil industry, gets into his nice car and drives home to his expensive house in Sweden (far far away from Uruguay) to tap out yet more dreary drivel on his Ipad about the horrors of capitalism, it's a way of filling the void inside him created by being such a traitor to his own (ridiculous) beliefs.

    Stevie

It appears that you cannot make your case.
“ go to Paraguay and see what is written on the walls”

This being an International forum, that's not likely to happen - you know that.

“For reasons you don't understand” - well, what are they. Help us, explain them to us.

You snidely tell us we are wrong, and you are right, but you can't explain your reasons.

Honestly, Stevie, “I don't have to tell you why” is really quite a childish avoidance when you have condemned our views without explanation.

    Did I say “will” leave?
I think we said it would be 'in their better interest' to join the PA instead.

What are you saying are the reasons, or do you just not want to see them leave??

We are all brothers down here, so the UK government can only dream about a conflict between our countries.

    TIT

The PA members are all “brothers down there” too.

Probably better for Paraguay to work with friendly SA 'family' who all want to promote trade and expand their economies, rather than the dysfunctional “brothers ” who want to restrict or control their economic activities.

    Don't you agree?

    So is our dear Paraguay

Big hug to their people ;)

@29 Paraguayans will decide, and that's because Paraguay is a country and the Paraguayans have the right of self-determination. I know that's not what you like but that's how democracy works here in South America. No war between our countries, against the will of the UK, sorry.

What has the UK to do with anything?

    Stevie

And Paraguay should do what is best for Paraguay.

Which SA “brothers” should they go with?

Is Mercosur offering them a “big hug” or a “headlock”?

Paraguay seem to be thinking for themselves - good for them.

@32 Everything in the UK has to do with Argentina, that's why you are always here with great expectation. Paraguay will decide what's best for them, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Many are on here regarding the Falklands, whether you like it or not.

You are on here because you are paid to be here by CFK's propaganda arm, La Campora.

Best wishes to Paraguay, may they remain free to choose their own sovereign and economic destiny.

It's their choice which SA bloc they align themselves with.

What do you have against the PA, Toby??
