Spanish Foreign minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said that the ‘best solution’ for Spain and Argentina on the dispute over the seizure of a majority stake of YPF from Repsol is “negotiations” and emphasized that Madrid will back Spanish corporations in what it ‘considers convenient’. Disclaimer & comment rulesI really think it would be better for both countries to put an end to this conflict, direct negotiations between Repsol and YPF or going to an international court to put it to rest seem the most quick and effective way to do so.

Sep 12th, 2013 - 04:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0We all know what Argentina will do if the international courts do not agree with Argentina.
I'm guessing the Argentine plan is not to pay anything unless somehow forced to.

Interestingly, the perception in Argentina is that they have already paid Repsol, in fact that they paid them when they took the shares. Not quite where this is being reported from but it is a very obvious misreporting effort to change to collective knowledge of the event. I've got 5 Argentineans in my house at the moment all staying with us and they aren't politically aligned and each one of them swore blind that Repsol was fairy compensated for their shares.
Sep 12th, 2013 - 05:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0WW .Have they paid you the rent yet ?
Sep 12th, 2013 - 06:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0They were fairly compensated. Argentina declared the shares worthless - then took them.
Sep 12th, 2013 - 06:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0All above board and tickety boo!!
@5 ha ha. They are all family. All they had to do was bring a couple of bottles of decent wine!
Sep 12th, 2013 - 07:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0@6 You say that but that wasn't their take on it. They think that money actually passed hands and this wasn't just a rank asset grab. Interesting how thingas are reported internally.
@4 Repsol was fairy compensated for their shares. Was that a typo or tongue in cheek.
Sep 12th, 2013 - 09:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0Anyway, haven't we established that argieland hasn't got US$10.5 billion? Hasn't it been calculated that it only has about US$6 billion left? Is that before or after it has to cough up the US$1.3 billion in New York?
Margallo exhibits argie-like characteristics. Strong with the weak, weak with the strong. Against Gibraltar, he's tough. With Britain, he wheedles in a two-faced manner. With a Spanish company, it's you're on your own. Notice the use of the word convenient. Since Spain reckons it wants to align itself with argieland against Britain, Repsol won't be convenient. Mind you, aligning oneself with a no-hope place like argieland is just desperation.

Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo thinking is…
Sep 12th, 2013 - 02:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You help us with this Repsol business,
And we may well help you with the Falkland’s problem,
And we can become great partners, perhaps uniting under one flag..lol
.
Funny sense of priorities the Spanish have.
Sep 13th, 2013 - 01:07 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They ass lick to Argentina who have turned Repsol over (UNLESS Welsh Wizard is right and in fact the Spanish are performing a classical Argentine -its not fair-it's someone else's fault scam).
So if Argentina actually pay Repsol more compensation, does this mean that Margallo will declare war on Argentina?
Then the Spanish hurl fury and fire at Gibraltar who are greatly assisting the Spanish economy in La Linea, providing Spanish people with jobs that the Spanish can't provide their own people with and then Spain impose traffic queues at the border that mainly affects.....yes.....Spaniards?????
Like you say pete bog
