The contract was for a summer world cup. Not a winter one. If that is the only option for Qatar because of the excessive heat, then the bidding process should be repeated. With the option of a winter Qatar games against alternative venues during the summer. So where exactly does it say Europeans reneged on a deal?
It is not only European participants that are questioning holding a football tournament - traditionally a winter game - in 45C temperatures. What are they going to do? Make the stadia air-conditioned?
This was a really bad decision in the first place and whilst I have no doubt Qatar would host a fantastic tournament there are practical considerations that seemed to have been lost in the race to support the bid for economic reasons.
I just do not see how it would be possible to disrupt the domestic and european football leagues when they are worth far more economically.
