Argentine president Cristina Fernandez is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday and according to the official agenda has several appointments with political leaders and business representatives.

However even before addressing the global forum she is already making headlines: in the midst of the campaign for the mid term October election, which officially took off on Sunday, the 60-year old leader participated in several political rallies wearing black tights that turned the comments away from politics and gave her the opportunity to attack the ‘non friendly’ press.

Instead of giving importance to government projects and achievements, La Nacion and Clarin are more concerned about the fact ‘the president’s tights’, blasted Cristina Fernandez.

“Again La Nacion and Clarin more disgraceful than ever. Now it’s the tights. Before because I wore designer label clothing. Now tights and protocol” twitted Cristina Fernandez.

In effect the Argentine president during a political rally opening a public park in Ezeiza caused a great commotion in the social networks, particularly Twitter. Without abandoning the black mourning since the death of her husband Nestor Kirchner in 2010, the president chose to wear black tights which are the craze among youngsters in Argentina.

“All that fuss about black tights? Not a word about the motive of the opening, clearly they had to talk about the tights”, twitted Cristina Fernandez in reference to the inauguration ceremony and the two opposition media.

She was referring to the recovery of the Recreation Centre in the Ezeiza woods, “a formidable reconstruction of an icon of Peron’s time”

“As can be seen to the discouragement, the lies, the concealment this time they added stupidity and banality: tights and laughter. Not bad at all. Vade retro stupidity”, added the Argentine president.

The pictures of Cristina Fernandez wearing the black tights in the front pages of La Nacion and Clarin triggered all sorts of reactions in twitter such as ‘”KirchnerismInTights’ or “TightsForever”.

“Imagine all the fuss with my black tights!! Wait when they see me with the yellow tights on, quite a few are going to have a heart attack”, insisted the Argentine president.

Back to New York: Cristina Fernandez speech is expected to hammer on Argentina’s current litigation with hedge funds (‘vulture funds’) in US courts over the payment of defaulted bonds where the country has lately received adverse rulings at lower and appeal court levels and which at the end of the month (hopefully) could trigger the interest of the US Supreme Court.

Other issues to be addressed are naturally, Falklands/Malvinas, Latam solidarity and the lack of UN reform; Iran; the conflict in Syria and US cyber-spying among.

But contrary to previous trips the president has plans to return to Buenos Aires after her UN speech. No time for shopping spree passion this time; back on the campaign trail, whether in black of yellow tights.

It’s not like if she didn’t knew dam well herself that the focus will be on her tights. That’s precisely why she used them…She’s sooooo obvious. They are increasingly looking desperate and turning to awkward stuff as the latest poll shows they will fall even further than a 10% gap againgst the FR in the province of BA and the peronist structure is abandoning her day by day… Massa doesn’t even know what to do with all the hoards of deserters that are coming to him and dealing with him under the table…Just no room for them all after October!

I think they are leggings she is wearing. Not really age appropriate and somewhat 'common'. If she doesn't want her clothes to be the focus of the press she should try dressing with dignity. Three years in widows weeds is bonkers.

If she had to tell something serious, the press would take over, if she would be serious, she would know how to dress, if she would be 'president-like' and not whore-like people would forgive a 60-year old to make such a fault-pas. Maybe she just had a memory problem and nobody told her she had forgotten to put something on. She 'll catch a cold, but who cares.
