The British embassy in Paraguay which was remained closed since 2005 will be reopened this week according to Paraguayan foreign minister Eladio Loizaga. The news was confirmed following a meeting of the Paraguayan official with Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Hague and Loizaga met in the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last week in New York, according to a release in the ministry’s portal, announcing the reopening of the UK embassy.

“Foreign Secretary Hague acknowledged the significance of the reopening of the UK embassy in Asuncion, which will be inaugurated next (this) week, and for the ceremony a British Minister of State will be coming to Paraguay” said Deputy foreign minister Manuel María García who was also present at the meeting.

Likewise during the meeting the two ministers addressed trade issues, and according to Paraguayan sources, Hague underlined the pro-business favourable atmosphere in Paraguay for investments and pledged to work with UK businesspeople to promote business and investments in Paraguay, concluded the release.
