You may have been told by your advisors that it makes you look important, significant, and a part of the BG / PAE “ team.” Actually, when no one else is wearing one at the press conference, it makes you look silly.

Safety helmets are an indispensable part of any modern politicians wardrobe. Anyway I'm sure Evo is convinced that with that headgear securely in place the omnipotent N.S.A. surely cannot read his mind.
