From Kurdistan to Somaliland, for independent oil companies, getting your hands on new exploration acreage where both technical risk and political risk are low is impossible. Exploring for oil and gas in new frontiers is all about striking the right balance between geological potential and political risk. Take it from Anglo-Turkish Genel Energy, the largest producer in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), where it seems nothing can shake investor confidence right now. Read full article

What if anything has this article got to do with South America, except to piss them off because they can't afford to extract their own oil let alone someone elses.
Massive oil reserves in Kurdistan, even a little company called Gulf Keystone Petroleum has found an estimated 13 billion barrels. Seems the oil companies would sooner work for the Iraqies than get ripped off by Latam countries.

I'm rather surprised that some American prosecutor has not fitted this man up and put him on a chain gang for 25 years to life.

@5 I did not say that Mr Hayward, or his former employer, were at fault. Indeed, if you were able to comprehend my post, you might reasonably conclude the opposite.

May I suggest that you learn to make deductions and draw logical inferences before posting, or is that beyond you?

Whatever your feelings about this not being a south Atlantic article,
it is an immensely important insight into the global vision of the oil industry.
    Remarkable!

    Mr Ed,
That could easily happen considering the corruption present in the US prosecution service.
