Ex-Tottenham Hotspur player, Ossie Ardiles injured in a road accident in the Falkland Islands yesterday has thanked Falkland Islanders for their help

Mr Ardiles who sustained severe lacerations to the head, but is progressing well said: “Thank you to everyone in the Islands who has helped, without exception. From the moment of the accident, the attention and care we have received from the police, the RAF helicopter team, the doctors and nurses here has been world class. Thank you to everyone for your concern, I am fine and doing well.”

Three other members of the seven people in the accident remained in hospital overnight for further observations while four individuals were released following treatment for minor injuries.

The team's soundman, Carlos Marcellan sustained a neck injury which will require further investigation, but he is said to be doing well.

Mr Ardiles son, Federico Ardiles, who was also part of the group in the Islands, commented on the incident: “We are extremely grateful to the military police at MPA, the emergency services from Stanley, and the helicopter team who transferred us safely and professionally to hospital in Stanley. Moreover to everyone at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for their friendly and genuinely excellent care and attention given to us.”

Mr Ardiles is in the Falklands filming part of a documentary on his football career for ESPN, alongside his friend and fellow Spurs star, Ricardo 'Ricky' Villa. Mr Villa, who was also in the accident, was discharged from hospital on Monday evening with no serious injuries.

Mr Ardiles and his party had spent the day around Darwin visiting Argentine and British memorials in the area and were travelling to Stanley from Darwin when their vehicle left the road, approximately fourteen miles from Darwin settlement. (PN)

That is what makes our Country so great. We extend our hand to everyone in need and this accident showed the world just how kind we are as a community .
Mr Ardiles and his group received professional help from the local people in the same way they have always helped others in their tie of need. Pitty His leader in Argentina doesn't offer her hand of friendship to our people .

As Mr. A_Voice implied in another thread....... Every second of those “Servicing Extended ´Hands” will, most probably, be billed to Mr. Ardiles & Co. extended Travel Insurance.

maybe in a Latnam country would the wounded be charged for hospital and rescue services, but don't forget, the Falklands are part of the civilized world, and part of the EU

Don't get confused with the nearby, but totally distant in terms of behaviour and manners Argentina
