Less than a week before meeting with Barack Obama in Washington, Uruguayan president Jose Mujica described his peer as a 'progressive leader who has his feet and hands tied” and described the fact he made it to the White House, a complete surprise, 'almost unconceivable'. Read full article

I think it would be useful for Uruguay if Imperial College (London Uni) extended their Brasilian Math and Science link-programs into Uruguay.

Similar to Crass-tina, when the leaders of these tin-pot republics finally get an invite to Europe or the USA, their heads swell up with a massive sense of their own self importance.

Result? Speaking gibberish and actually believing that anyone else gives a shit!
Lol! Mercopress is comedy gold today.

    Nuke Britain, please:

”For example, during “phase v” of the Oil-For-Food programme, from November 1998 to May 1999, each Iraqi received a food allocation worth $49, or 27 cents per day. Von Sponeck commented that “the UN was more humane with its dogs than with the Iraqi people” (ibid, p.38): $160 was allocated for food for each UN dog over the same period.

”Also during “phase v“, $5.80 worth of health supplies were available per person, $1.60 for water and sanitation, $4.10 for agriculture, $2.50 for electricity and $1.00 for education. Though it is rarely reported, this was in fact not humanitarian aid; it was funded through the sale of Iraqi oil (as was the dog food)...

”Von Sponeck openly blames Britain and the United States, who, as “the main and permanent hardliners”, were “unable to strike a balance between their political objectives and humanitarian principles.” (ibid, p.161)”

    Hello everyone,

Here we all go again on yet another ego-trip –off once more, on that unhappy hedonistic marathon along its all too familiar puerile path, strewn with the limp, leftover laurels from previous, pompous, largely stupid sound bites and utterly gratuitous denigration.

Seriously, one doesn’t need to possess exemplary powers of perceptive perspicacity to heartily concur with Mújica’s views on the Obama Presidency.

It ought to be blindingly obvious –to all but the most abject cretin– that Obama is simply the crowd-enticing monkey (no offence to his person intended) who sits atop his capitalist masters’ stentorian, propaganda-churning barrel organ. He’s simply a sop served up by Corporate America Inc., in a blatantly vulgar attempt to salve the ever worsening economic wounds that America’s self-serving oligarchy inflicts upon the US’s working-class.

Those who reckon I exaggerate should read this:

“Incomes for 90% of Americans have been stuck in neutral, and it's not just because of the Great Recession. Middle-class incomes have been stagnant for at least a generation, while the wealthiest tier has surged ahead at lightning speed.
In 1988, the income of an average American taxpayer was $33,400, adjusted for inflation. Fast forward 20 years, and not much had changed: The average income was still just $33,000 in 2008, according to IRS data.”

The above extract is taken from one the many serious sources of economic data to be found on the Web:

    http://money.cnn.com/2011/02/16/news/economy/middle_class/

    Cheers!

    Jim, in Madrid.

The fact that Obama is black was never really a big deal other than for the media. It never made a difference to democrats and probably wouldnt make much difference to the majority of republicans - Condeliza Rice and Colin Powel are republicans.

Average income remaining stagnant in the richest nation on earth is nothing to worry about - how many 5-8 litre engine cars does each American family need? But the income difference between rich and poor is a concern I agree.

“They've tied his hands and feet so that he can't advance with his political agenda.”

Says Pepe with his hands and feet tied by CFK.
