The 83-year-old head of the Argentine human rights movement which works to track down babies stolen by the country's brutal 1976-83 military dictatorship has found her grandson after a 35-year search, a relative said on Tuesday. Read full article
Forgive me if I am reluctant. Her well-paid apple-polisher attitude towards the Kirchner couple, the fact that many of her sons have being appointed in the gov, her derogatory words to anyone who does not celebrate the gov´s decisions, the timing of this news, etc... all that make me be really careful.
I have never seen this lady having a word of comfort to any of the thousands of mothers who lost their sons to criminals during these years.
Also, and without trying to say that the dictatorship was right (they screwed things to the farthest extent), let´s not forget that her daughter was member of a terror group which kidnapped and killed people, so stop trying to sell her as an innocent victim.
I had always defended both, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, but then I realized that I was wrong and I regretted having supported them. These people published comments during the last years has gone from giving public demonstrations of support to the attackers of September 11th to protect terrorists and murderers of civilians and military during the decade of the '70s.
All this for receiving thousands of pesos and dollars current corrupt government. These people have become political operators of the Peronist government and I even don't believe she has found her grandson now. It's only political propaganda to distract public opinion's from the current economic disaster.
Estela de Carlotto was an appellant in the current government action against the media group Clarin. She Accused one of the main shareholders of kidnapping his grandson, now it is quite clear that she was wrong ..
@1 and @2 I share the same feelings and today I will go on working by the Grand Mothers and Mothers side in order to find the rest of 400 grand sons and grand daughters who do not know their identity yet. It is difficult to understand the everyday of the victims of the Genocide and their family when one is living abroad or pick kinda of information up from bias newspapers.
information up from bias newspapers..we are all misinformed and confused by newpapers. That's the reason why I only read and watch on TV official and pro-government news.....
7. If I wanted to know the whereabouts of my distant family I would simply hire a private investigator. There was a TV program in the 1990s that did that kind of job too.
The government controls the intelligence services archives the armed forces archives and so on, they could easily have founded the 400 or so by now, but they choose to transform this old hags into a massive budget with privileged pensions, govt positions, corruption deeds, etc and make a political use of it.
Good things happen, but sullen critics always find a way to darken the day.
Good for MercoPress to publish the story, but find out more (Ignacio actually took the first step to find his real identity) by reading a longer article on Pagina 12. http://www.pagina12.com.ar/diario/elpais/1-252358-2014-08-06.html
Too bad all the kidnapped stolen generation Children in Canada, Australia, and the United States have no one to advocate on their behalf and never will.
See, not even Nostrils can find more than 10 names of children that were removed just for being Aboriginal, and not for welfare reasons.
But then again, he was never able to argue. His autism might make him good at languages but as he has clearly shown over the years, it doesn't make him good at anything else.
Come on people! What are we becoming?
Commentators above have managed to digress in several directions instead of just enjoying a (rather rare) good news story.
They have managed to take us on a tour of the horrible iniquities suffered by defenseless children in at least three other countries.
Now you tell me how a happy event in Argentina diminishes the gravity of injustices happened elsewhere? I would hope not much!
Then we have another smart a**s wondering whether the story made the news and another one claiming that it did and that makes ”one argentine baby (is) more important than 3 billion people.”
Sickening.
Now you tell me how a happy event in Argentina diminishes the gravity of injustices happened elsewhere? I would hope not much!
Oh but that is the entire foundation of their garbage pile. If Argentina did it, then whatever we did is immediately excused, forgiven, absconded, forgotten, and tabooed.

Aug 06th, 2014 - 09:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yeah, we still can't find more than 10 people that were part of the stolen generation in Australia.
Aug 06th, 2014 - 09:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Seems we have finally found something that Argentina does better than Australia-steal children.
10 people? Wow, what an incredible indictment of ineptitude.

12.000 is the most conservative figure. 20.00-25.000 is a given, more radical sources claim up to 100.000.

WOW... 2015 and Australia still stuck in the mentality of circa 1885.

welfare reasons... that is your supposed escape valve/code word.
Aug 06th, 2014 - 10:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well, guess what, the children of the disappeared were ALSO removed for welfare reasons.
So why do you complain about it?
If you want to find ANYONE just turn it over to the people who track down delinquent student loans in the US. They will find them. Be sure of it.
