Gibraltar's competitive football debut ended in a predictably one-sided 7-0 loss to Poland on Sunday when the team predominantly made up of amateurs started 2016 European Championship qualifying.
Robert Lewandowski scored four times, Kamil Grosicki fired in two and Lukas Szukala also netted in the Portuguese city of Faro.
The Estadio do Algarve is Gibraltar's temporary home while its own stadium undergoes renovations to meet European football's standards. The venue, which had the capacity to hold the near 30,000 inhabitants of Gibraltar, was largely empty.
Gibraltar became UEFA's 54th and smallest member in 2013 despite opposition from Spain, which disputes the sovereignty of the British territory.
Gibraltar's task is limiting the margin of losses in Group D, which also features world champion Germany, Ireland, Scotland and Georgia.
The Rock's teams includes a shipping agent, two policemen, two pro-footballers, a store man, a fireman, an administrative clerk, a Customs officer and from the Electrical Department.
